Question logging XC time

For private, let’s say I have the following plan:
- Departure => point a 75nm
- Point a => point b 55nm
- Point c => back to departure 30nm
Can only the initial two legs be logged as XC time or can the entire thing? My reading is point needs to be 50 away from departure point but what about the short last leg?

When you say "for private", do you mean for the purposes of meeting the aeronautical experience requirements described in 61.1.b.ii? Or do you mean for someone holding a private pilot certificate?

Depends for what purpose you are logging it. "Crosscountry has several definitions." In addition, there are additional requirements for some of the specific cross-country experience for the various certificates/ratings.

Leg length has no bearing on whether you can log XC time. The only time that comes into play is when you're trying to meet specific flight requirements (in 61.109).

The entire flight is XC. The only requirement is you have to land at a point >50 nm from your departure point. After that, you could fly in circles for an hour and it would still count.

All of it is XC
