flowermaneurope@reddit
Good thing he was smart enough to use the safety cage for the tire.
shadowmib@reddit
It still spun the cage 180° and blew the guy's shirt off that was with him 3 ft away. Can you imagine if he was touching the tire with his hand would have blew the skin right off his hand
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit (OP)
Degloving.
Supposedly it activates every one of your nerve receptors, you feel that your hand is burning, swollen, frozen, and cut.

Had he not used it and had it blown from the other side that tyre would've cleared his colon like nothing else. But honestly you can see the tumor growing on the sidewall you should know it's time to toss the tyre and get a new one.
_how_do_i_reddit_@reddit
In case you guys didn't know, tire cages are supposed to be mounted to the floor lol
ThatGuyWhoDoesVoices@reddit
Wouldnt thtat send more force his way??
_how_do_i_reddit_@reddit
It's to prevent the cage from falling on top of you or towards you and taking out your legs.
ThatGuyWhoDoesVoices@reddit
I meant in this specific scenario. And the answer is yes it would
no need to downvote i didnt nullify or argue..
Just asked a damn question Redditors are sad
_how_do_i_reddit_@reddit
He got the full brunt of the air anyway, another 10-20% more idk if he would have even been able to tell the difference honestly. Either way, he was definitely surprised.
Wasn't me lol, they downvoted me too 😂
ThatGuyWhoDoesVoices@reddit
Yeah im just assuming mayber that extra 20% est could send air through his skin into his bloodstream.
Would need a scientific experiment to test my hypothesis But i think you coula got got IMO..
Another thing i would like to point out is HE REALISED SOMTHING WASNT RIGHT he was looking hard.. then bam

right_lane_kang@reddit
When I started at super ego (yeah I know) I went to the trailer drop yard to pick up an empty so I could get going. This guy was dragging a trailer in the gravel, big plume of dust behind him, he was headed towards me and I laid on the air horn, waving my arms for him to stop and he just looked at me like 🤷🏾♂️ and wouldn't you know it as soon as those tandems got by my truck the 2 front tires blew sending gravel shrapnel all on the side of my truck and put a smalls bullseye on my windshield,. To add to the shit show, he was blocking the exit, so I get out and walk up to him like "duuuude" and he just says "I just got this trailer and the tires blow!" other drivers started walking up because they were lining up on the street. Had to drag it further and more tires blew🤦🏻♂️ I'm not a hateful man, but I hate that company.
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit
I have heard horror stories about that company but never met anyone who actually worked there. Is it really as bad as what I hear?
right_lane_kang@reddit

Elderado12443@reddit

BugO_OEyes@reddit

Montreal4life@reddit
are y'all telling me tht I shouldn't be pulling out nails and screws and such from my tires? This video really makes me think... are we at unreasonable risk every time we also check the tires on pretrip, get near the tires? damn I don't appreciate how dangerous this work is...
mistakemaker3000@reddit
Technically, that hammer tire check is a death wish if you don't notice the tire bulging first.
Hot_Falcon8471@reddit
This is why I refuse to do anything tire related. I had a low tire recently and called dispatch, told them I need a mechanic to air it up. They tried to tell me to do it myself with the emergency line hose we have in the trucks. Fuck you, not doing it.
EscapeWestern9057@reddit
If I had to guess, was a slow leak, wouldn't bubble water tub and or soapy water. Threw double the pressure in it in an effort to make it leak fast enough to bubble. A common tactic for finding a leak. I've done it to car tires bumping them to like 80 psi. The difference is here it's like over 200.
Ok-Answer-6951@reddit
A friend of mine since childhood was killed by a split ring rim. Had it lying flat in the ground with no cage, and he was holding the hose. He had worked there for almost 30 years. It blew a 3 ft hole in the roof after it took most of his head clean off...

Compressed air (or any gas) is way more dangerous than most people realize. It has the ability to store a tremendous amount of potential energy and release it explosively.
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Worked in oil production. Very rarely, we would have to open hatches on top of the tanks. Probably 6” diameter opening, and less than 4 ounces of pressure (1/4 psi). If you weren’t holding it when you unlatched it, it would pop open and I’ve heard of it actually blowing a person’s air mask off because they were right in front of it.
Rambler330@reddit
A 6-inch diameter lid with 0.25 psi applied:
Area of lid = π × (radius)^2 = π × (3 in)^2 ≈ 28.27 in²
Total force = Pressure × Area = 0.25 psi × 28.27 in² ≈ 7.07 pounds-force.
So, about 7.1 pounds of force is exerted on the lid.
If the pressure is increased to a minuscule 10 psi then the amount of force rises to 280 pounds of force. More than enough force if the lid comes off to take your head off.
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Well yeah, if you increase the pressure 40x then it becomes a lot more dangerous.
Believe me, I’ve worked with high pressure. Same place had 1550+ psi water 1800+ psi gas lines. Had to do work on gas pipeline, and it had 10” doors to be opened at each end. Three steps of protection: bleed pressure off, open a bleed on the door, and the bleed actually locked the opening mechanism unless fully removed with no pressure behind it. Nobody wants to accidentally open something with 1800 psi behind it making for over 141,000 pounds of force.
FloppyTacoflaps@reddit
Saw that happen to someone at the tire shop once, guy had his left arm taken off at the elbow, right hand blown off at the wrist and it scalped him. It was by far the most disturbing thing I've ever seen. Went from an average day at the tire shop to a warzone in like 0.00044 microseconds.
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit (OP)
When I worked for Kriska, back in like 2009 or 10 there was a guy that used a pair of pliers to pull a nail out of his tire. Didn't check to see if it penetrated, and broke his hand, wrist, and forearm when it snapped against the bottom trailer.
The next day, he was the topic of a safety conference call. We are all prohibited from doing any roadside tire repairs regardless of how minor.
Last_Cauliflower1410@reddit
I dont know jack about trucks, but why did that happen? How would you check to see if it penetrated?
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit (OP)
One of the easiest ways is to just get a cup of water/bottle and some soap from a bathroom. Then you pour it over the nail / screw.
If you see bubbles, don't touch it. If you don't see bubbles, you are generally okay to pull it out. But you still got to be careful because it could have been weakened.

KnownAdvantage5366@reddit
For the uneducated what happened?
OldBrokeGrouch@reddit
The tire had a weak spot and it blew out. The air in a tire is under a lot of pressure. If it blows out, that pressure gets released in a blast of air that is moving extremely fast. This guy was standing directly in front of the tire and got hit with that blast of extremely fast moving air. The tire itself is basically propelled by the blast of air (Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion) in the opposite direction, but the safety cage prevents it from becoming a deadly projectile.
Jaycool10@reddit
Excellent explanation!
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit (OP)
My guess is he used a locking air chuck and had to removed the core. Probably sprayed the stem to check it, and the soapy water was enough to let the chuck go.
You can see the the line go flying when the cage goes.
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Sidewall was bulging already before he sprayed it. Nothing to do with him spraying it.
Tranceported@reddit
Yup it’s split open on side wall at the bulge.
Fit_Hospital2423@reddit
That’s not from an air Chuck popping off. You can see the sidewall bulging and then it blows out.
TexasDrill777@reddit

Key_Law4834@reddit
Can this happen with regular car tires at around 32psi (I think)?
Randomfactoid42@reddit
Semi’s run 100-110 psi in their tires so way more dangerous than our little car tires. Still, 32 psi isn’t something to play with.
Key-Mycologist-7272@reddit
You can still get hurt by a regular car tire but you're not likely to get maimed or killed by it like you will be by a semi tire letting go. Semi tire is about 4x the pressure of a car tire so when they pop it's a hell of a lot more force.
Outlaw11091@reddit
People don't get it: it's 100 psi in that tire.
That's a lot of fucking pressure.
A car tire at 30 psi "pops" and can damage the fender of the car.
A truck tire doesn't "pop". It explodes.
Randomfactoid42@reddit
The math is even scarier, that’s 100 pounds per square inch. And a square inch is pretty small.
Serfalon@reddit
A truck driver youtuber I watched once described a Truck tire popping as "The fist of god smashes into you"

jaden1279@reddit
Oh, yeah. Those tires are no joke. Back when I was a Tire tech / diesel apprentice on overnight at my old Love's, once had to replace a tire. Took it off it's hub and rolled it away while I grab the other one, tire rolls about 15-20 feet away and bursts. I swear that rim assembly flew like 10 feet in the air. Scary stuff.
Another scary experience was a tired coming in with no tread, all you could see was the tire underneath. And it was still holding air😬 I deflated that one before even touching it after the first experience.

When I was a paramedic in NJ. I was called to a State Highway for a Tire Repairman injured changing a tire on an 18 wheeler. Unfortunately, the 38 yr old worker passed as the tire exploded and the rim actually tore the left side of his head off. This isn't a funny situation, ever. I'm surprised this guy didn't suffer abdominal injuries.

That's gonna be some serious bruising. Any higher and it probably woulda cracked a rib. I worked with a guy who got thrown back five feet and got three broken ribs from a similar scenario. I almost got it from a super single. I heard the "snap crackle pop" of the cords breaking and got outta the way just in time
