ULPT: Put an Uber sticker on your windshield to get past DUI checkpoints.

99% of they let those cars pass because they assume you're working. Don't drink and drive.
7thAndGreenhill@reddit
I used to drive for Uber. They still stopped me.
uatme@reddit
I would hope so, being an Uber driver or taxi driver doesn't somehow make you not susceptible to alcohol.
JumpyYogurtCloset2@reddit
That’d be a shitty super power
Javi_DR1@reddit
r/shittysuperpowers
cdr323011@reddit
Fun sub, actually
Froqwasket@reddit
I think you may be missing the point. The cops don't say "oh he's an Uber driver, he isn't susceptible to alcohol," they say "oh he's probably working and there's pretty limited chance he'd be drunk for that, let's move on to the next driver where it will be a much higher chance"
Most-Piccolo-302@reddit
I took an Uber this weekend that reeked of weed. I'm pretty sure the driver was high. Got me where I needed to go safely 10/10 no notes
No-Corner9361@reddit
I rarely if ever actively partake when I got places to go and people to see these days, but lord knows my blood THC levels have consistently been multiple orders of magnitude over the legal driving limit since like 2012. They really a need to do some more objective research on the differences between weed’s effect on our ability to drive versus eg booze and other powerful sedatives, because current legislation is dumb as hell at the very least.
ramzafl@reddit
just a heads up, there actually are a bunch of peer-reviewed studies showing THC does impair driving ( reaction time, attention, coordination, the whole deal). It’s not just anti-weed propaganda.
Like, the National Academies (not exactly a stoner blog) published a report saying cannabis doubles your crash risk when you're high. Link here. There's also a 2021 meta-analysis in Frontiers in Psychiatry that went deep on this and found clear impairment across multiple skills.
The tricky part is that THC sticks around in your system way longer than you're actually impaired, so the legal thresholds are kinda garbage. But just because the laws suck doesn’t mean driving high is actually safe.
TL;DR: Legal =/= safe, and yeah, we need smarter policy. But pretending you're fine to drive just because it’s weed isn’t the flex you think it is.
xhephaestusx@reddit
It's weird how that's literally the problem he describes in like 14 words and it took you 14 paragraphs to rephrase his statement to him
ramzafl@reddit
Please look at the context of the thread. Implying it is perfectly safe to drive while the car is just got hotboxed 15 minutes prior by the driver is not the same thing. Hence my comment.
Also, are you high while reading and writing this? 14 paragraphs is not 3 parargraphs (plus a 1 liner tl;dr).
Is the weedman in the room with you right now?
bagonmaster@reddit
Yes the thresholds are exactly what the person you’re responding to is talking about. Marijuana definitely impairs drivers, but THC’s presence in your blood doesn’t mean you’re impaired.
RsCaptainFalcon@reddit
I have to say, this post was an emotional roller coaster.
I finally realized that you're saying these checkpoints are inconvenient and that is why you want to bypass them, not that you're trying to avoid getting a DUI.
I've also never heard of a DUI checkpoint. Maybe I don't get out enough.
Thatguynoah@reddit
DUI checkpoints are widely considered to be unconstitutional. The only way they get away with it is if they check every person vs picking and choosing so this plan should not work at all…
People should be more offended that they have to show their papers/prove their innocence without having committed a crime or be suspected of a crime. I hate drinking and driving but checkpoints are bullshit.
Technoxgabber@reddit
Im canada it's allowed and refusing to give breath sample has same penalty as impaired over 80
Haunting_Raccoon6058@reddit
In Canada you can also be arrested for DUI for being intoxicated hours after you have parked your car and stopped driving.
Technoxgabber@reddit
2 hours after yeah
Drunkenaviator@reddit
That's why you should put your keys by the front door so that someone can more easily steal your car before you can drive drunk.
Fickle_Finger2974@reddit
Police are famously well versed in what they are and are not allowed to do and always do their best to follow all applicable laws and policies…./s
KeyCold7216@reddit
That's not exactly true, at least in my state. They have to publicly announce the location 24 hours in advance and they have to have a plan they can't deviate from. Something like "check every 3rd car". I don't agree with you that they are bullshit, though. Same with drug dogs.
Few_Ad_7613@reddit
They vaguely announce the location in my city. There'll be a posting saying like somewhere on the Eastside of town, or the Northside, etc... they never give an exact location, although if you've lived here long enough you can kind of guess where they'll be set up.
TheDuckFarm@reddit
Some states or countries don’t have them, some do. We don’t have them where I am.
Dash775@reddit
They mostly happen on big party days like New Years Eve, St. Patrick's day, etc.
Basically, set it up at 11pm after all/most of the normal traffic/people are home on the couch, stop EVERYONE who comes by, and find tons of drunks.
LeafsWinBeforeIDie@reddit
In sweden they set them up for 7am sunday morning. They know not to drive that night, but lots are "fine" but still drunk on their way to church (if anyone still went to church).
thermighty@reddit
In Sweden and Norway also, everyone driving thru blows. And it's a very low limit, I think 0.02. They take drinking and driving very seriously in Scandinavia.
Few_Ad_7613@reddit
You've never heard of a DUI checkpoint? What, you're 17 years old? It's not only to catch impaired drivers, they also check for valid drivers licenses, registrations, & proof of insurance.
Haunting_Raccoon6058@reddit
Maybe they live in a state that actually follows the constitution? Stopping and detaining every single driver for DUI enforcement with no probable cause is a violation of the fourth amendment. Sorry you live in a shitty state, not all of us do.
guywithouteyes@reddit
In my city, they even have checkpoints set up ever several months, usually looking for someone that has a warrant, so they stop everyone to just look at their ID and then send them on.
OkRemote8396@reddit
DUI checkpoints don't exist in states that recognize the US constitution. Other shithole states have no such hesitations.
freericky@reddit
Do you have the uber sticker in window?
cabbage-soup@reddit
DUI checkpoints are common in certain hotspots with cities that have a well staffed police force in order to handle them. I live near a large metropolitan and have only known a few suburbs to do them and even myself have never encountered one personally. I’d say they may happen around here once every 5 years, at least that’s how often I hear of them

NikolitRistissa@reddit
Why wouldn’t they breathalyse workers? If anything, commercial drivers should be under more scrutiny.
I have no idea where it works in (I assume) the US, but this seems very counterintuitive.
lan60000@reddit
I'm trying to figure out why cops would care if you're working or not, regardless of what you're working as.
Accomplished-Leg5216@reddit
Potentially workable on a restricted license - to and from work;) only.
Ninja_Tortoise_@reddit
The last Uber I took I asked the lady how her night was going
"It's been pretty chill, I was just sitting at home having a few beers waiting for a ride to pop up"
AintEverLucky@reddit
How do we get Uber stickers without working for Uber? 🤔
NotOppo@reddit
It doesn't matter, as a former uber driver, we get stopped too
AintEverLucky@reddit
Ah ha. So the so-called "pro tip" is bullshit? 😏
toolsavvy@reddit
You must be new here.
jeremiah1142@reddit
You don’t have to actually drive for uber once you sign up.
RsCaptainFalcon@reddit
Go online, buy a fake, or just apply and likely get accepted.
thehotshotpilot@reddit
Nah get one of those pizza delivery lightup car signs toppers. That explains slow inattentive driving as it looks like you are trying to find aplace.

“Don’t drink and drive. But if you do, call me” — Saul Goodman
the-jesuschrist@reddit
I used to think it was a great idea to drive under the influence, but after doing it twice I realised it wasn’t worth it. I could seriously hurt someone. Now, I just drink a beer, smoke some weed and stay at home. Way more enjoyable.
ThrowAndHit@reddit
A pizza delivery topper and uniform would work too. BUT if you need to go to those depths to hide your drinking and driving, you need further help.
dillonisstitch@reddit
I work for Pizza Hut and keep one in my car not for dui checkpoints, but for parking in red spots for short periods of time
JahLife68@reddit
They will still stop you.
MortytheMortician9@reddit
Or just don’t drink and drive.
CaptainPunisher@reddit
That's not the in spirit of this sub.
Thoarxius@reddit
Unethical is not the same as illegal and dangerous
CaptainPunisher@reddit
Nor is it mutually exclusive from that.
Aggravating_Plantain@reddit
Getting stopped when your sober is annoying too--i didn't take OP to be advocating drink driving.
Thoarxius@reddit
Haha yeah it was in reference to the deleted comment
ctzn4@reddit
So, piss disk in the officer's face, then?
CaptainPunisher@reddit
Only if you can't fuck his dad.

ei283@reddit
why did you repeat the last sentence of the post
treachpreacher@reddit
It's still a pain in the ass if you're 100% sober. Sometimes cops are just assholes.
giveDCcoffee@reddit
In my state, if you are doing a checkpoint for any reason (DUI/inspections/seatbelts) for it to be a legal checkpoint every single vehicle must be stopped.
andrewtti02@reddit
Abiut 10 years ago, I was stopped at one of these checkpoints. I'm Hispanic, but I don't speak fluid Spanish.
I slowed down and the cop waived me over. When I lowered my window he started speaking Spanish. I then told him, "sorry, I dont speak Spanish", and then he switched to English "okay, your free to go".
It took a moment but I figured he just wanted me to talk so that he could smell my breath but that's not initially how it came across as.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Seem like you don't speak fluent English either... /jk
andrewtti02@reddit
No worries, it's the curse of trying to type anything longer than a single sentence on a cell phone. I'm a dad as well. Half of that was written while feeding my 3 month old with my other hand.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Oh man. Welcome to the party pal. ✊️ Only good advice I was given, was to "sleep when the baby sleeps". Everything else can be done when they're awake. Enjoy!
Various-Astronaut-74@reddit
Or just don't fucking drink and drive
loiloiloi6@reddit
Doesn’t work
lynivvinyl@reddit
I've got a bunch of the light up Uber and Lyft signs but I don't drink and drive. Are you saying that this will make it so I can drive around them or avoid them and not have to wait in line because that would be really nice. I've never seen a fast pass lane at a DUI checkpoint.
Just_Here_So_Briefly@reddit
You wish.
dankp3ngu1n69@reddit
Just don't take roads with checkpoints
Iv found putting Google maps on "bicycle" mode and staying on side streets works wonders
javiergc1@reddit
I'm an Uber driver without a sticker for safety reasons lol....I also don't use a sticker cause the airport police likes ticketing Uber drivers who wait too long to for their passenger to get to their car.
jeremiah1142@reddit
X Doubt
I have got past police checkpoints for an event with it, but why the hell would they automatically wave an uber through for a DUI checkpoint?!
Crzy710@reddit
Yea uber drivers never drink ever
SweatyAdagio4@reddit
Wdym? You need a blue license plate to be a taxi, even if you're an Uber driver.
StrainAccomplished95@reddit
This is unethical, illegal, and just wrong in every way
Impaired driving killed 3 children earlier this week
Yosho2k@reddit
It's not illegal to have a sticker in your windshield or get flagged through a checkpoint.
Sub-Dominance@reddit
Oh no, it's unethical, what were we thinking?
StarClutcher@reddit
It also incarcerated hundreds and beyond for 'reasonable suspicion' for refusing to comply with unethical 'standards'
Gooseuk360@reddit
I'm sure, however you are in a group specifically named to be about unethical life hacks.
EishLekker@reddit
They didn’t advocate for driving drunk. They advocated for a way to avoid being checked at the checkpoints. Nothing they said was illegal. They even ended their post with “Don’t drink and drive” (but perhaps they added that later).
Wild-Spare4672@reddit
Do you know what sub this is???
daftg@reddit
Idk if you checked the sub name though
erictriestofish@reddit

smidgy1988@reddit
Love this sub but nobody should drink and drive. You can kill yourself or someone else. Get a damn uber
Iamuroboros@reddit
Or....you could just drive through.
