FAR/AIM Pre-Tabbed For Instrument

I was wondering if anyone here has pre-tabed their FAR/AIM for IFR training. If so, did you purchase them or made your own? If purchased, which one?
Another question, is the quick reference tabs from Sporty's just for PPL or also for IFR? Should you have different FAR/AIM for PPL, IFR, CPL? I wonder what are people's recommendations?

I mean, pretabbed, tabbed yourself, ultimately the learning comes from reading. Just do whats best for your learning style.

I got the one from Northstar. I got the DIY version. It’s a bit cheaper and as I added the tabs I read through the material

I’ve tabbed my own and bought one….save your money and tab your own

But the FAR/AIM app and bookmark the sections you want. Use keyword searches to pull up relevant regs. There’s no requirement to memorize regs or their codes, only that you know the information, and, more importantly, you know where to find it if you don’t know the information. The app gets updated, the books do not.

+1 for the app!

You're gonna get a lot more out of tabbing things yourself than buying pre-made tabs. The exercise is meant to get you to learn shit about the thing you wanna do.

And you might as well remove the tabs after you are done. I've always found the idea that you're going to rely on tabs in your checkride to be silly. KNOW THE FREAKING MATERIAL.

Bingo.

That's true, I did that for my PPL but it was a lot of time and effort. However, you got a point and I'll prob do the same for IFR.

You can't develop familiarity with the book if you don't skim through it and decide yourself what to tab, in the same manner as you can't build muscles if you pay someone else to go to the gym for you.

I tabbed mine myself, but took a different approach. I only tabbed the first page of each chapter. Then I highlighted the applicable regs and wrote the page number next to it. Having every single reg you think you’ll reference tabbed gets obnoxious and hard to sort through.

I bought the pre-tabbed. Doesn’t help you learn the materials but makes it much easier to look up once you know the regs/AIM. Saved me a little time tabbing it all myself, I guess. I’ll be buying the pre-tabbed again for comm/CFI. I add my own tabs in addition to the pre-tabbed ones when I think something is noteworthy.

To answer the rest of the question, unless you're doing PPL to CPL in the next six months, you're going to be spanning multiple years. So, yeah, you'll buy new FAR/AIMs. I have three. YMMV.
I used tabs from Amazon and stuck them on myself.

I liked digital version better myself then tabbing. I use far/aim by flightready and it’s got it well sorted to quickly get to any category and specific FAR rule needed. It’s also searchable so if you need to find a very specific thing you can even search to help get there. Also has the option to bookmark, highlight, and note things as well if you want to go back to things.
All personal preference though. Some still prefer the handbook and going through effort of tabbing it.

The only proper way to learn it is to write the FAR AIM yourself from scratch, get FAA and Congressional approval, then fly to the Vatican to get it blessed by the Pope.

Personally, I found the iPad version better. It is searchable and ASAs updates based on any changes for free. Just my 2 cents

I tabbed my own for PPL but this year I bought the pre-tabbed Private/Instrument/Commercial from Northstar Aviation.
I like how thorough it is but it’s a metric fuck ton of tabs. However, I regularly pull the book off my shelf for reference so while I didn’t go through and tab this one myself, It hasn’t had a reduced value as a reference for me.

The learning comes from reading and highlighting. Not from inserting tabs. Certainly not from buying pre-tabbed.
Use the list of recommended topics by certificate, highlight the key words, and put a little sticky tab there.
Your own work creates a better impression with the DPE than factory tabs.
