When I was a kid, I thought smurfs were green.

I really didn't know. Our TV display..showed them as green. I argued with kids at school. I knew they were green. There was no way to convince me otherwise. Such an odd thing to be sure of, when I was absolutely wrong. Are we sure they are not green?

I mean, sometimes they were purple. GNAP!

When you're done with your Atari, make sure you put the switchbox behind back to TV

Smurfs have always been blue.

I was older when Smurfs came out...they're blue, you either had a TV that had a bad tube or colorblind....but seriously, they're blue
chopper5150@reddit
Well, what color was the sky on your tv?

God, I remember a bit....I don't think it was a commercial, but something like that. It was a smurf and he turned to face you and it showed him reaching out of the TV yelling "Smurfs are green! Adjust your contrast!"
I mostly don't do drugs so......I think it's real? lol

There are four lights!

Green smurfs make more sense anyway: These are small critters that stay hidden in foliage. By rights, I would expect them to be green and brown with various shades and patterns. Head canon: The blue is cosmetic dye. Or possibly a side effect of high smurfberry consumption. Which also leads to cognitive deficits like replacing words with "Smurf" without noticing. And infertility.
They are a lovely people, but their way of life is not sustainable. Their population is dwindling.

I mean, even Gargamel would complain about "those miserable little blue imbeciles"

off topic a bit. but t australia we didn’t get colour tv until the mid 70s. Before that everything broadcast in black and white. anyway as a kid in the late 70s or early 80s when we had colour tv some films they broadcast the same old transfers they had from pre colour in black and white. wasn’t until i was an adult i realised the film THE BOY WITH GREEN HAIR was in colour ! We laughed as kids at the film being in black and white as it just seemed dumb.
anyways.

Only slightly related: When I was in grad school I had a JVC TV that I'd gotten as a gift which immediately started to go bad when the 5-year warranty expired, like it was on a timer. I didn't realize how far gone it was until I spent months wondering why all of a sudden, every scene in every TV show was taking place at night and you could barely see anything.

We also had a cheap-ass early edition color TV for a while with color balance issues. Ours had issues with red, came out way more orange.

We are sure. But you are giving me flashbacks to the one person I knew with a rear projector tv, when it went out of whack, over time everything became greener and greener.

This kind of thing drove David Lynch crazy when he was doing Twin Peaks. 😂

Cataracts can make your vision go yellowish. So can jaundice.

Your parents didn't know how to twiddle the color control knobs on your childhood TV set.
islandcatman@reddit
I am positive that they are blue. I guess maybe your parents forgot to adjust the television? Like the opposite of "Hey kids, don't adjust your set! The Smurfs are green!" No, they are blue.
