Where can I get CHEAP prescription glasses? (Storage, bug out bag, work, car, etc)

If your glasses break during some sort of crisis, you can be screwed if your eyesight is as bad as mine. Id love to have some ugly cheap-o backups that I can keep all over the place "just in case".
Any recommendations for a company I can use online to order?
Cool-Village-8208@reddit
Zenni Optical has been my go-to.
Effective-Visit-319@reddit (OP)
THIS! I knew there was one that started with a Z but I couldn't remember it.
WardenWolf@reddit
Don't get too many coatings.
Luc-redd@reddit
why not the coatings?
Malyfas@reddit
Good Question! If you have scratch resistant coating you shouldn't have an issue. If you add anti glare coating you can have problems. (When the anti glare are added, they are baked on. To do it right, they bake a certain time and temp. added on top of a scratch resistant coating it changes the time and temp. As glasses are processed in batches if the time and temp for YOUR glasses are not correct, the anti glare coating will become brittle and "shatter" leaving your glasses like looking through fog. (I spent 2 years with this problem until I did enough research to figure out why. My doc and my provided didn't even know this was a thing.) I never got anti glare again and have had no problems even with cheaper providers (Zenni, Glasses USA, Walmart, etc.)
WardenWolf@reddit
I never had issues with their anti glare,, but if you go beyond basic coatings like anti-glare it will slightly reduce clarity.
Malyfas@reddit
It was an issue with the lab when they were fabricated my glasses. I haven’t run into it anywhere else and it was two years ago, but it is something that I will never buy again.
Steamed_Memes24@reddit
Just know, if your prescription is very strong, Zenni wont be the place to go. You will have to go to an actual eye place. I tried Zenni and due to my insanely strong prescription they werent really able to do make glasses good enough for it sadly.
JasonHofmann@reddit
Or progressives
Tamination@reddit
I have progressives from Zenni, no complaints.
Academic_1989@reddit
how strong do you think is too strong?
Steamed_Memes24@reddit
+6.00 and -3.00 levels of strong. Like someone puts on your glasses and they want to throw up due to how bad it is for them to wear lol.
outworlder@reddit
I'm -6 in both eyes. No issues. It does make the glasses more expensive since you need higher refraction index.
goddessofolympia@reddit
Um, mine are -15.50 and -15.75 and I got 2 pair of Zenni glasses (including bird flu sports goggles) with 1.76 high index glass for $119. And they did such a beautiful job. So not sure what happened in your case. I ordered mine Black Friday, but I seriously doubt it's changed since then.
soopydoodles4u@reddit
Yea :/ I can get glasses on there, but any of the sunglasses styles I actually like it says it can’t do it with my prescription numbers.
Necessary_Face_995@reddit
I have several pairs from them for this exact reason. 30-50 bucks for plastic lenses, I just stockpile them bc im blind as shit and would def be screwed.
itsaride@reddit
I'm in the UK and I use them too (twice, both varifolcals). Both excellent quality. It's an American company but the manufacturing is done in China.
Longj_Carpenter7969@reddit
Yes Zenni is the spot
DescemetsMem@reddit
Coastals.com
Sea_Blueberry_7855@reddit
Zenni.com
Most_Art507@reddit
I've looked at goggles 4you they look ok, I generally keep my old prescription glasses when I get new ones, as my prescription doesn't change much.
a-passing-crustacean@reddit
I really like eyebuydirect! It has that feature to virtually try them on, they accept fsa and hsa, and I got like 6 pairs for about $300 including some prescription sunglasses! I actually just ordered 2 more pairs of sunglasses for myself. Very wide range of selection too
TempusSolo@reddit
Another vote for Zenni
Alternative-Copy7027@reddit
I know this is not what you asked, but I actually went and had (very expensive) surgery to correct my eyesight. Partly because it felt so unsafe to be 100% dependent on glasses (my eyesight was really bad). As a bonus I won't ever get cataracts.
I think of this partly as a prepping cost!
lexmozli@reddit
I purchased my current prescription sunglasses online after getting CRAZY quotes locally from like 5 stores. The online price was almost HALF of the local store one, the delivery just took awhile (2 weeks).
I picked some fancy frames, but if you pick the most plain frame plus the most simple lenses, the cost is stupid low, like 1/4 of the local store one.
Bad_Corsair@reddit
What website though?
lexmozli@reddit
eyerim.com , but I think that's mostly an EU store :(
Bad_Corsair@reddit
Thank you!
Ryan_e3p@reddit
EyeBuyDirect.
I recently picked up a couple spare glasses, plain plastic frames, for about $12 each.
VeterinarianDry9667@reddit
This is who I use, too. I have backup glasses in like my car and at work and I think in my basement. I could probably get like 15 for the price of 1 with my insurance at the regular place in town
VeterinarianDry9667@reddit
Oh and I use them as my main glasses too, for years. They last just fine
No-Example-7235@reddit
Second eyebuy, I got a few super cheap pairs to keep as spares from them years ago and they're absolutely perfect. Super cheap, functionally flawless, looks decent, zero complaints.
iwantmy-2dollars@reddit
Oven even had them stand by their warranty and replace a pair.
Goonie-Googoo-@reddit
Get LASIK... problem solved.
SatoriFound70@reddit
I got Lasik. After about five years I needed glasses again. The place advertised they would re-do surgeries if your eyes went below 20/20 after surgery, but after reading about the problems people had after second surgeries I opted not to do it. ;)
Effective-Visit-319@reddit (OP)
Two of my co-workers had botched surgeries. 1 eye is 20-20 and 1 eye is almost blind.
Im good.
sec1176@reddit
Zenni - thank you!
got-to-find-out@reddit
Greateyeglasses.com has excellent prices if you already have a prescription.
Psychological-Pay236@reddit
Mukkal. I got 3 pairs of progressives with all the lens crap & really cute frames shipped for around $160 about 6 months ago. Seems to be holding up well. There is a tiny circle where coating is missing on the ones I wear most. But it’s an almost perfect circle, I probably scratched them.
Old_Poem2736@reddit
If you just need readers, up to +4 I buy 6 packs from amazon for my wife who keeps loosing or breaking them. Zenni did me well for my transition lenses
DaveyAllenCountry@reddit
Just a thought, if you intend on LONG TERM storage, maybe put some readers in there too? Of varying strength. My dad gets the ones at dollar tree, but Walmart has made in usa ones that are cheap too
simplyinspire@reddit
I know you said glasses, but you can also keep a couple pairs of contacts and saline as back up. Perhaps not ideal long term but a good third resort.
Fit_Acanthisitta_475@reddit
I have high prescription, and getting new one every year. I have plenty of old pair in the house.
Aboxman2@reddit
Zenny, Goggles4u, and EyeBuyDirect.
We've used all three in our family. All have been great. Watch the sales and coupons, especially for Goggles4u.
ObscureSaint@reddit
Can vouch for all three.
sonicboom5@reddit
I bought a few pairs of cheap glasses from goggles4u.com that are about like reading glasses but with prescription lenses. They are very plain and the lenses aren’t exactly 100% my prescription. They are pretty close though and I paid $9.99 + $4.99 shipping. I have them stashed at my office, my go bag, and both vehicles.
One day my eyes got extremely dry while wearing contacts. I thought I would be ok until I could get home. I started driving on the interstate and they both fell out within a few seconds. I just reached into my console and grabbed my cheap Chinese glasses and I was good to go until I could get home!
Ok-Curve-3894@reddit
goggles4u is decent. Some are disposable quality, and some are good. But sadly no polarized lenses.
SunLillyFairy@reddit
I just bought bifocal computer glasses with blue lens (for eye strain) for $45 on Zenni. Progressives are a little more. You can get cheap single vision lenses without tint for under $20.
RemarkableSet4199@reddit
If you go to jail and need glasses they will give them to you for free in Connecticut.
dinkydinkyding@reddit
I’m partial to eyebuydirect - I wait for their coupons. They do really good sales and discounts about four times a year

HerbDaLine@reddit
Do you have an "America's Best" near you? 2 pairs and an eye exam if you need one for $90. Not the place to go to for quick glasses but I have been wearing mine for a year and a half with no problems.
Asleep_Phase@reddit
Firmoo. Higher quality then zenni in my experience
seabee5@reddit
Just bought two pair for under $30 from Firmoo.
Funkymonk9090@reddit
Last 4th of July I got like 3 pairs of safety glasses in my prescription from ZENNI under 100. One of the pairs was shades. ZENNI!!!!
IlliniWarrior6@reddit
Zenni >>> and - make sure your eye prescription is included in your secured personal digital stash
Whyam1sti11Here@reddit
This is the way.
JackassWhisperer@reddit
Warby Parker.
A few years ago I burned my HSA on four pairs for $100 each.
There are cheaper options, but I found a frame I like and I bought a few variations of it.
smaxsomeass@reddit
Goggles4u.com I’ve ordered many pairs from them.
