Did aerobatics for the first time today!!

This was in a Decathalon! Aka my dream plane šShe let me do barrel rolls all by myself! I actually ended up going in there for spin training, but I felt like I needed to build my confidence up a little bit more and I was originally going to be doing loops and hammerheads by myself, but my stomach was feeling a little queasy, and I didnāt feel confident enough to do it myself. Otherwise, she said everything that I did was very smooth for it being my first time!! Just wanted to share how happy I am with my experience:)
Youkai280@reddit
Did some aero training in a Super Decathlon before going off for UPT. Honestly, itās probably one of the few planes Iād actually buy after my career. Super simple, super fun, and pretty darn capable for what it is⦠Man, I need to call up my old CFI and go up again when Iām back in town lol

I'd imagine if you just asked, you could probably get an admin to change it (for obvious reasons)....
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
I never really thought of that. Maybe Iāll try it :)

I did my spin training in that make and model. Nice bird
jawshoeaw@reddit
Only softies depend on a parachute* ! I want to do some acrobatics but Iāve been too chicken to try but now Iām thinking Iāll do it
/s itās a brand lol
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Definitely try it!! Not gonna lie. I was scared to do a barrel roll, but not even 10 minutes later I was doing them all by myself!! Also once I started doing 3G turns it felt a little weird, but it was very fun! Best $200 Iāve spent!! Iām definitely planning on going back out in the next week or two :)
jawshoeaw@reddit
$200 ?!?? Thatās the best bang for the buck in aviation Iāve ever seen! I was expecting it to be like $1000.
Spin training is also my main motivation but now Iām excited to try the rest of the fun. I do get motion sick when Iām the passenger but usually not when Iām flying so I wonder how Iād hold up
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Iām not sure where you live but if you live in the Utah area, I would definitely suggest this place! Itās in Provo, Utah and they are called Pilot makers :)
And yeah, I was super excited for spin training, but once I got in the air and just barely did a roll I realize that I wasnāt actually ready to face it but next time I go up there I for sure will!!
Yeah, I was starting to get a little queasy up there after a few maneuvers and I was sitting in the back, but Iām definitely going to be building up some strength to keep going. Itās too fun to stop!!
khurley424@reddit
Silly question but was your instructor at Pilot Makers also a woman?
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Yeah! She was great :)
khurley424@reddit
Awesome!! I have a friend in UT not terribly far, and I am scheming here about gifting a flight haha. Thanks for the quick response!
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
If you were specifically looking for a female CFI ask for the decathlon because she is only rated to fly that and Iām not aware of any other female CFI over there
khurley424@reddit
Seems like Ms. Funes looking at the website, yeah?
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
I donāt know what her last name was unless thatās somebodyās first name? The one I was with was named Tayla :)
coolkerbal@reddit
I competed against Tayla in primary at my first competition, the pilot makers group seemed like a good bunch
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Thatās so cool!! I hope to compete in a competition one day!
khurley424@reddit
Looks like weāre thinking of the same person going by the contact page online. Again, thank you very much!! Excited to see if I can make something fun happen with this
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Good luck to you :)
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Haha yeah of course, Iāll always answer the second. I see it and I was on my phone when you said it :)
jawshoeaw@reddit
Oregon / Washington area but Provo isnāt that far ⦠and they have these flying machines that shorten travel time lol! For for real I think thereās a few acrobatic places near me Iāve just never checked prices assumed it was too expensive.
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
For some reason, the place that I went to, didnāt have their prices listed? So if they donāt definitely just call them and ask. I think next time I go Iām going to fly their extra 500 but thatās about 300 if I remember correctly? Havenāt decided yet.
Icy-Bar-9712@reddit
My 2nd spin/aerobatic flight I started chaining maneuvers together. Half Cuban, aileron roll out, another half Cuban, another aileron roll.
The crazy one last flight was a level turn at 75 to 80 degrees of bank.
waterMyShrubs@reddit
Just throwing it out there, it's "Decathlon". There's no second "a". I used to say "Decathalon" for years and wish someone had pointed it out to me sooner lol
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
To be honest, I use voice to type, so Iām sorry š thank you for letting me know though!!
waterMyShrubs@reddit
Super common for people to call it that, even in this thread a number of people have. At the end of the day the spelling isn't as important as the experience you had! Congrats on being able to do that, it opens up a whole new world of aviation!
tomdarch@reddit
In the air, how different is the Decathalon from a boring training aircraft (don't know what you've flown previously. 172?) I'm looking forward to doing spin training, but wonder how an "aerobatic" plane translates back to a "boring" one? (and worry that if aerobatic planes have particularly sensitive controls that I'll make a mess of things!)
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
It definitely felt a lot different from the trainer planes Iāve flown (archer 3, archer 2, and Cessna 172) Iād say itās a bit more sensitive? Not by much tho. To be honest, I was having too much fun that I didnāt really notice lol
tomdarch@reddit
Sounds good!
tedious_squid@reddit
Congratulations! I suspect you are on the start to a new passion in flying - I did my first Aerobatic flight in a Decathlon 25 years ago - you get hooked. It gives you an incredible sense of control and really forces you to constantly improve. We all find our niche in flying and upside down taildraggers are ( in my humble opinion ) one of the best.
FlyingScot1050@reddit
Preach
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Only six hours in and I fucking love it!! I did it once and I couldnāt stop!
OrionX3@reddit
Love the Decathlon! Got my tail wheel in one and still get to fly it a bunch. One of my favorites
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Iām definitely going to be going back to it!
VolCata@reddit
Elite name! (It's okay. I have an alt with a similar name lol - for once it ain't me)
That is an absolutely gorgeous bird and I'm absolutely jealous that you got to fly it.
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Iām so happy I found a place that had one!
mustang__1@reddit
The first time I you see the earth above you is an entirely unreal experience. Fucking awesome. I've done three aerobatic flights over the past couple decades and I remember every one of them.
Lord_Arsehole@reddit
Super fucking coolā¦are you working towards a career?
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Nah, Iām just doing it for fun but I could change my mind :)
VDarlings@reddit
Where do you fly at? Here, it's almost $400 an hour
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
I flew out of KPVU for like $209
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
I only have six hours and Iām still working towards getting my third class š¤£
Mid_Atlantic_Lad@reddit
Oooh, a Super Decathlon, too. I started out my training in Citabriaās (very similar aircraft) and now sport a tailwheel endorsement not many of my colleagues can boast. I absolutely love flying those planes, and I hope you enjoy your flying journey, too.
atthemattin@reddit
Was this patty wagstaf? Do they actually let you try and land the plan on hard surface or do they do the take off and lading? I was kind of curious about that.
lovelyfeyd@reddit
I took aerobatics lessons with Patty Wagstaff and her team in the Super Decathlon and Extra 300. At the time I was in the middle of learning to fly tail wheel, so I did not feel comfortable doing t/o and landing in a very nice Super D, but the option was available since I was flying with an instructor. No way would they have let me attempt that in the Extra. The time in the Extra was with Patty, and I was jealous and amazed that she got to fly like that everyday. Totally worth the money spent. I think about it a lot.
backdoorjimmy69@reddit
It's not quite a Deke but my old gliding club had a Citabria as a towplane. Such a fun family of planes. Congrats!
MacAttack0711@reddit
Congratulations on your newest addiction. My first aerobatics were in an open cockpit Waco Great Lakes. Itās a fun life!
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Why do people do drugs when G Force exist 𤪠Iām so excited to do the loop all by myself next time! Iām gonna be calling them tomorrow to make another lesson š„°
jay_in_the_pnw@reddit
Very nice! I remember my first time doing aerobatics. Drove out of the airport to a nearby park, laid on the ground near a tree, and just enjoyed the solid ground for an hour or so.
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Yes!! The second I got picked up. I literally just sat in the car and just existed š
Iām definitely gonna be working up to doing the other maneuvers by myself
Numerous-Shock626@reddit
Are the aerobatics in the room with us?
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Sadly, it didnāt let me put videos on here which kind of sucks
cbogg2884@reddit
Iām thinking about taking lessons
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Itās worth it!!
jahnsi37@reddit
Thatās amazing! I remember doing my spin training in an extra 300 and the instructor was demonstrating hammerheads and all kinds of other maneuvers. That was the moment I realized aerobatics is not for those with weak stomachs like me 𤢠but glad you had fun with it!
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
It definitely made me feel a little bit queasy, but Iām gonna keep pushing through it and getting my body used to it :)
kiffend@reddit
Outstanding! See at a competition!
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Iāll see you there pal š«”
heysoundude@reddit
That smile says it all. Good for you!
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
I might share some more pictures later, but theyāre not very good. My barrel roll video didnāt really capture much except for the floor and then a part of the sky for a second š¤£
heysoundude@reddit
Post the good ones for people who are interested/curious.
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
if u wanna see the other videos/photos u can :)
ltcterry@reddit
Glad you had fun. But guessing you did a roll or an aileron roll. But not a barrel roll which is an actual aerobatic maneuver though not really an entry level one.
Go back and do more. I enjoy teaching basic aerobatics.Ā
Ashamed-Remote7825@reddit
Congrats! The super decathlon is a fun plane to fly. Are planning on flying it more?
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Definitely planning on it in the next week or two! Iāll probably post more as well!
Ashamed-Remote7825@reddit
Nice, itās definitely worth it
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
If you ask them, theyāll let you do it, but it really depends on the CFI, Iāve been lucky and I ended up actually being allowed to land on my second hour, which literally does not happen usually. I think if they see how you fly, theyāll be more comfortable letting you land and ever since I started Iāve been told that Iām a smooth natural flyer. I really just need to work on my landing.
rmscomm@reddit
Thanks for sharing and thatās great !

LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Lmao bye š ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Redfish680@reddit
Cool! Whatād you do?
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
I just did basic maneuvers like barrel roll, inverted flight, loops, hammerheads, nothing too much. I only did the barrel rolls myself tho. My instructor was so cool tho!!
Redfish680@reddit
I apologize after the fact for reading but not retaining the answer that you provided in your post to my question. Senior moment or something. When I got my PPL I considered taking a week long course on spins (god, I HATE them! lol) to get past myself but never did. Sounds like youāre having a blast!
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
lol donāt worry I get it! Iām definitely going to be working up to spins and I will force myself to do it next time. I donāt care. Iām scared I am lmaoo. I also just didnāt choose to do it this time because I was sitting in the back and I feel like it would be a lot better for me to do it in the front.
Jagdwulfe@reddit
Please stay away from aviation if you're a furry
Key_Slide_7302@reddit
If only you knew some of the kinks that existed amongst those that pilot the planes you ride on in the airlinesā¦. š¬
Anyways, if youāre judgmental and exclusionary, please stay away from aviation. Thereās already enough pricks out there giving the rest of us a bad rap. They donāt need your help making it worse.
LilBigTits@reddit (OP)
Iām not gonna do what you tell me too just because you donāt like me. I donāt know where you even found out that I was a furry, but what is so wrong with it? Are you the kind of person that mixes up all furies, zoos, and therians in one group? Because if you do that, thatās not true. Those are three separate groups, and I hate zoos and therians because they are so weird and disgusting. Anyways, this isnāt even the place to talk about it so please if u donāt like me then just block me, simple as that š¤·āāļø
