cadillac or volkswagen?

I havent been in the market for a vehicle for years but now I'm looking at a 2016 cadillac ct6 3.6 and a 2017 golf gti near me. both are right at 70k miles and in my price range. itll be a summer time daily for work and for taking my kids on road trips. ive owned a VW but never a boosted one. i know they are 2 very different cars but what reasons do you all have to go-for or avoid one or the other?

Neither. You need a Toyota or Honda.

This is such a boring and useless answer

Yep, it is. The VW and Cadillac are giant steaming pieces of shit. These should be avoided.

in my area 99.9% of the vehicles on lots are crossovers, suvs, and full size pickups.not many sedan/4door hatch thats not brand new and >30k except a few high mileage 3 series bmws

GTI would be my choice. Better gas mileage, fits a surprising amount of crap being a hatch, and fun to drive. Caddie is bigger and heavier and has some tranny issues. GTI is probably less prone to expensive repairs. Less likely to get a lemon with the GTI vs the Cadillac. I've owned 3 GTIs. Never an issue. Family have owned CTS's and not great resale and one was plagued with thousand dollar visits every few months to a mechanic. I'd check what maintenance needs to be done at 100ish k on each and make your choice from there. A small turbo engine can be a lot more efficient than a V6 but also have higher performance and better economy. But if you're 300lbs you'd probably prefer the Cadillac. If you're not a big person, the GTI seats are very comfy (they have well bolstered seats). This is just my opinion!

If it's about road trips with your kids, I'd go for the Cadillac. Plenty of room, very comfortable and is a cruiser. No offence, but a boosted VW sounds more like a fun car, not a highway cruiser

Caddy for sure. It will be way more comfortable and cheaper to fix when stuff breaks.

Honestly the gti is an amazing car but i think the cadillac will treat you better for roadtrips
bulbuI0@reddit
A gti obviously isn't a family car.

Neither

i would get the GTI. the mk7 was an excellent generation, and the car is a surprisingly comfortable highway cruiser.

The 3.6L is not an engine people expect to last to 200k 🤷🏻
RedMaple007@reddit
Biggest difference is one is FWD and the other RWD or optional AWD.

Id take a Camry with less mileage and for roughly the same cost of both assuming my guess of ~25k is correct.

Ct6 probably more comfortable for road trips

I've had both before. You're correct in that they're very different. I'd strongly recommend trying both. The cts has parts of the car that just felt cheap and the 6 speed auto, in my 2015, was a bit of a letdown. The car was pretty fun to take corners in and I could get a nice slide going, rwd one. The engine was fine, nothing special though. Think great highway cruiser you can still have some fun in. The gti is such a fun little hot hatch though. While I much prefer rwd cars these things are fun. The interior is more basic than the cts but built better. The e888 engine in the vw will go down as one of the greats as well. Either Transmission is better than the cts as well. One nitpick is there's so, so many them around. If I had to choose again I'd take the gti. I love sports cars and this is easily a much better sports car than the cts. The cts is a good cruiser that can still take a corner fine, get the ass end out with a bit of throttle, and isn't as common on the road.

VW can be reliable but stay up to date on your maintenance.
