Roehl or Schneider?

I was planning on going through school to get my cdl's because my work will pay for the school. But the place I went to get my glasses had to return them because "they wasn't up to their standards" so now I have have to wait 7-10 more days, maybe more. I need my glasses to be able to pass the eye test and from the looks of it there's a possibility i might not get them in time. If so, I'm going to have to go through a company to train me. So which one would y'all say has better training? Are they about the same? Which one overall would yall say is better.I just want to be able to pass that damn cdl driving test and the road to start stacking some money.
Any input is much appreciated!

Roehl was a junk company when I was there but their training was actually really good.

Why do you say they were junk out of curiosity?Just how they treated you? I say I want the company with the best training just because I'm kinda nervous about it.

I’m doing reefer at .65 a mile with roehl they are very good to me and I make good money

Why did they downsize? They had like 6,000 drivers when I got my CDL through them. Now their CSA profile shows 2,260. Are you still bobtailing around unpaid while the FMs send you on goose hunts for empty trailers? Do drivers still stand in front of their empty trailer at Conley for 4 hours while their shop changes a tire that a 90 year old could do in 30 minutes? Do they still deny all your detention claims and change the rules on how you were supposed to do it every 2 days? Do they still make their drivers waste an extra 2 hours driving through Chicago to save $20 on the 294 toll? God I don't miss that shit hole.

Wasted a lot of time I read. Yikes! Do ya just love when they change the rules and don’t tell ya…

I don’t know what you’re talking about but I’m always moving and I don’t go bobtailing for empty trailers

The pay was horrible. Started out flat bed. Only 1 made it through the 120k miles required to pay back school and only because he switched to van.

Skateboarder or Pumpkin hhmmmm I got my Vans on. Let’s skate!

I was with Roehl for a few years, and they were generally good to me. Their pay is very much on the lower end, but as a starter company? You can absolutely do a lot worse.

I finished Roehl’s training program last November, I drive reefer averaging .58cpm with no experience. I can’t speak for Schneider but Roehl has been good to me so far. Their training program is very thorough and had me feeling confident on the road quickly, and the trainers and instructors are (for the most part) genuinely invested in seeing you succeed. I’ve also never had any major equipment issues and anything that was an issue was sorted within the day. I don’t plan on sticking around forever but I don’t imagine regretting being here for my first year OTR.

I've been working on this list trying to decide on my first company. I keep adding more as I research. Getting my CDL locally first. Looking at van/reefer companies.

I got mine through Roehl 10 years ago. I’m sure a lot has changed but it was a fair company. I was in the flatbed division, and they were sticklers for safety, and pay was kinda shitty. But they take good care of the equipment and kept me running pretty good. It’s decent for a started company, but you will want to move on to greener pastures. Find a smaller company as soon as you’re eligible that pays percentage.

Appreciate the input man.

Don’t get your cdl with a company. They will assign absolute garbage loads knowing you can’t afford to quit before your contract ends. I worked for schneider for 2.5 years and paid for my cdl out of pocket. Even with that I would stay away from them. After they updated their system they got rid of a trick very few knew that would get you the best loads. My last 3 checks totaled less than $800, including 2 loads that were 1500 miles each ($1605). They turned into an absolute dirtbag, straight up not pay you company. Even in the good times the average driver lasted 8 days. This was the very first thing the ops manager told us at orientation. Go with Swift, they seem to be the least worst out of all the megas. If you bought your cdl at least you can go into something other than otr sooner if you don’t like it.

This is unfortunately many people’s story. Never happened to me like this, but doesn’t mean it won’t happen to you. I believe people when they tell me this
