At truck stops, what causes the regular pattern of dark marks on the pavement on the exit side of the pumps and sometimes on the apron? Thanks!

I'm not trying to be an asshole but maybe I am but was this question really not that obvious? It's diesel fuel or what ever else spills on the ground and gets driven through.

The patterns of spots are 100% something spilled at the pump, usually diesel or oil to stay and stain the concrete. Gathers on the tires where they sit while stopped, and I bet if you measure the distance between spot centers, they’ll match with the circumference of a truck tire.

In addition to all the other comments I'll say a lot of it is likely just rubber from the drives. Pulling out from a stop loaded puts a lot of rim pull torque down to the ground. You're going to get some bit of rubber buildup over time.

Fuel spilling and then being drug out on the tires as they leave

A combination of what the others said but add tire drag. Trucks moving forward before brakes are fully disengaged.

Sometimes it's oil, diesel or def. Other times it's shit and piss. Truck stops are like lot lizards, you never know what you're gonna get...

They stop in a puddle or smear of something, with only one spot on the wheels picking up the dirt. Then they deposit it on the ground once per revolution on the way out. Truck after truck does this, until you get those patterns.

Probably truck tires carrying diesel, oil and def out from the pumps.
