What trend most people get sick off seeing everywhere actually worked out well for you?

I hope the question is clear.
So I LOVE pistachio chocolate I have for years. I was always chasing the lindt pistachio truffles which they periodically stopped doing as they were my main fix. Dubai chocolate takes off and suddenly pistachios are in EVERYTHING and I am very happy. But understandly some people are sick of seeing it everywhere and complaining about it.
Less petty that my pistachio chocolate obsession, I have a friend who has an adhd child who was really helped by the fidget spinner trend which drove multiple teachers nuts. He suddenly found focusing much easier even without medication. It really transformed his school experience.
snowmanseeker@reddit
I am 36 and not diagnosed ADHD but I have a fidget spinner I use at work still to keep my brain from exploding
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I hate fidget spinners personally (for me don't mind other people using them they just don't work for me) but I have some of those tangle fidget toys that really help me in meetings.
simmeh-chan@reddit
Yeah I find fidget spinners terrible to actually fidget with.
Triana89@reddit
Fidget spinners are just so... dull? A random object even just a pen with a nice texture or weight is so much better to Fidget with
simmeh-chan@reddit
Like they’re designed so you spin and don’t touch so it keeps on spinning. I need something I can keep on fidgeting with.
Triana89@reddit
Right?! it's not a fidget toy if I am not fidgeting with it!
One of the best things I have is a rubiks ball (not its real name becuase ip might be called sometbibg like pop puzzle ball if i recall), problem is it has this lovely satisfying click when you move the ball to a new slot that's a bit too loud for when I am on calls :(
I also accidentally solved it and now I don't want to mess it up but that's a whole other issue!
Looking for party bag fillers and pocket money toys (notn idea if those terms work outside of the UK!?) Tends to give far better things than actual fidget toys
simmeh-chan@reddit
I got one from an actual fidget toy company and it was very cute but it was 3D printed so the texture was horrible. I find things like Kinder egg toys make good fidgets.
Valuable-Wallaby-167@reddit
Tangle fidget toys?
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
https://www.tanglecreations.com/
these they are basically tubes that tangle up
Valuable-Wallaby-167@reddit
Ohh, I'd forgotten they exist. They're a good idea. I like those spinny magnet rings but they're not that quiet and I tend to drop them.
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
These are quiet and just work best with my brain, I tried a lot of fidget toys to find the one that worked best. I'm autistic and tend to rock backwards and forwards (I don't realise I'm doing it) and that looks "odd" to a lot of people, its not disruptive or anything but in a work environment looking "off" can be a problem and playing with something stops me doing that.
Lopsided_Soup_3533@reddit
I find rocking back and forth a nice self soothing method
snowmanseeker@reddit
I have not seen these before and may need to add one to my spinner collection
bluejackmovedagain@reddit
Earplugs are another helpful thing that are really common now. Everyone under 30 in my office has Loops, but only a few years ago lots of employers would make people with ADHD formally request permission to wear earplugs as a reasonable adjustment.
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I can't deal with loops (I'm autistic and not adhd as far as I know though my sister has it so its possible) I hate the feeling of something in my ear and silence. I have overear noise cancelling headphones instead which are much less subtle unfortunately. Its not yet acceptable to use them in an office environment :(.
Triana89@reddit
My noise sensitivity is pretty mild and specific to certain things but I use flare audio calmers rather than loops, pretty comfy and they don't block all noise just sort of take the edge off, amd they are very discreet. Cheaper than loop as well. Might not work with the feeling in ear but might be worth a look.
simmeh-chan@reddit
Would something like the Airpods 4 with Active Noise Cancelling be helpful for you? They're still in ear but they don't have the silicone tip and don't seal in your ear.
bluejackmovedagain@reddit
I always think the difficulty with the term reasonable adjustments that it suggests employers are reasonable. Unless there are health and safety issues, or your job is something like responding to an alarm, ear plugs shouldn't be contentious, but too many bosses don't like anything that isn't the way things have always been done. It's the same as pointless bans on flexitime and home working.
I like my loops, but I had a different brand before that I couldn't stand. They were better at noise cancelling, but so much so that they seemed to amplify the sound of my breathing or swallowing.
caffeine_lights@reddit
FWIW I found out recently this is called the occlusion effect and not everybody gets it. I get it too and it drives me crazy. Apparently it's something that can be a problem if you end up needing hearing aids. It probably means you're sensitive to low frequency sounds.
bluejackmovedagain@reddit
That's good to know, thanks.
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
Yes I think thats it. Bosses see something different and suddenly think "that doesn't read as profession that doesn't fit this environment" without thinking "why doesn't it look professional?" because the answer is it doesn't matter. Also if loops are what I think they are they are quite subtle.
sageymae@reddit
I had to prove to my managers that they're not capable of playing music and that I can still hear people talking to me. Mind you, they've pushed back on every single accommodation I've/occupational health has asked for.
PsychologicalNote612@reddit
I used to feel exactly like this about ear plugs and silence - I even refused them for an MRI in one of those portable machines which are really loud. Anyway, I tried them again out of desperation one day and I found that if you get them far enough in your ears you can't really feel them and the silence is really gradual as they expand. I do get itchy ears after using them which isn't nice.
I'm not suggesting that you'll ever like earplugs, but don't write them off forever because if you can like them, they are wonderful!
I hope you get to wear your over the ear ones in the office soon
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I have tried loads and I just hate the feeling. I would use them for an MRI though my hatred of loud noises I can't control would outweight the temporary discomfort (for me anyway).
I have great headphones where the cups (if that is what they are called) go around my ears so they aren't squashed and the sound (or silence) surrounds me. I prefer to have something playing via bluetooth like a podcast or some ambient sound (depending on how hard I need to concentrate, if not very hard- podcast. If very hard a waterfall or rain sounds or some classical type music). If its completely silent I cannot concentrate or relax at all.
Its not that I'm not allowed to wear them its more I am clearly treated differently if I do. Not bullying everyone I work with is generally nice but the relationship is clearly a bit more distant and loads of people (neurodiverse or otherwise) work with airpods in and thats fine.
PsychologicalNote612@reddit
Fair enough! Your headphones sound comfy
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
They are I spent ages finding the perfect pair. They are also cobalt blue instead of black and boring.
PsychologicalNote612@reddit
I've got some children's ones with unicorns on!
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I had a pair with cat ears that lit up different colours. I got them when I lived in Japan but they finally broke... I suppose I was getting too old to pull them off but they were so cool I could decide if my cat ears were going to be blue or green or purple as I went down the street.
PsychologicalNote612@reddit
They sound really fun!
sputnikconspirator@reddit
Some people are really weird about wearing ear plugs in work, I inadvertently caused so much drama in work as a manager when I allowed my staff with ADHD wear Loops in work when other managers wouldn't allow it.
I saw it as a reasonable adjustment, Loops don't even eliminate all sounds, all the arguments about alarms don't count because you can still hear them with Loops in - it's just a reduction in noise.
Pale_Slide_3463@reddit
I love pistachio nuts, I could eat a massive bag in one sitting. Always got them even before people started realising they were nice in chocolate. I’m hoping now that the UK starts bringing in better pistachio nuts from like Cali and all but maybe I’m dreaming too much, hyped always die 😭
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
Obviously I like pistachio nuts generally but for me it has always been about pistachio chocolate I just love that combo and it has always been around just not very commonly.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
Have you (and you, u/Pale_Slide_3463) tried M&S chocolate coated pistachios?
They're so good, I've repeatedly given myself a tummy ache because I ignored that it's milk chocolate 😂
Pale_Slide_3463@reddit
I actually bought some chocolate covered pistachios out of there today seen them was like these better be good lol
TeHNeutral@reddit
Or the m&s pistachio and almond cookies. They're well naughty, wish they were still 2 for £3
Pale_Slide_3463@reddit

Pistachio ice cream is elite
Eyupmeduck1989@reddit
Went on holiday recently and was looking for pistachio ice cream and couldn’t find it cos of Dubai chocolate pushing up pistachio costs 😭
Ok-Salary3550@reddit
Costco does phenomenally good pistachios in typically Costco-sized bags.
TeHNeutral@reddit
Weirdly I've been getting YouTube adverts for california pistachios lol
Pale_Slide_3463@reddit
I want them so bad 😂
Tzunamitom@reddit
Just be careful with the salt levels, especially if you have high blood pressure. A whole bag can be a huge amount of salt.
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I solve that by consuming my pistachios in chocolate. The sugar cancels out the salt right? /s
Pale_Slide_3463@reddit
Yeah I’m always actually low on salt in my blood because I drink too much (learnt this recently) yeah it’s more a once a month or couple of months don’t worry lol.
Tzunamitom@reddit
Ah good :)
Ashwah@reddit
I always get them unsalted
Wildwife@reddit
Making a vegan version of everything. My son is lactose intolerant and it’s so much easier to just buy vegan food. I can get most things now without having to worry about dairy.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
I'm lactose intolerant too and this is it! I can get almost everything - milk, cream cheese, cakes, desserts... Even burrata.
I do usually get enzyme pills from Germany that allow me to have dairy, but it's nice that I can leave the house without them and still find food if I go out with friends.
Blue_wine_sloth@reddit
You can buy the lactase enzyme pills in Holland and Barrett but yes, most vegan stuff is just as good, they just need to work on making the cheese better.
El_Scot@reddit
Lactojoy just work a lot better, and come on a much handier pack size.
Blue_wine_sloth@reddit
Where do they sell that?
El_Scot@reddit
I buy from Amazon. I'm assuming it's the stuff this person is referring to, as it is German, you just don't have to buy from Germany unless you boycott Amazon.
The tin is pretty small, like carrying tic tacs around.
Blue_wine_sloth@reddit
Cool, thanks, I’ll have a look. I end up decanting mine into a tiny bag because the jar is too big to carry around.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
Yeah, and I've done it in a pickle, but they're a lot more expensive than the ones I get in Germany and also weaker (H&B 125mg are equivalent to 8,125 units of enzyme, but the standard pills I use have 12,000). I also just really don't like the texture, I hate gel pills 😅
100% on the cheese. So much vegan cheese is SO BAD. Violife makes great cream cheese though, which is a godsend.
Hiyahen@reddit
Boots also have one! Similar strength as the H&B option I think, but just a normal hard tablet.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
Ooooh thank you, I'll check that out! Might be a good option to fall back on in the future - it'd definitely make my life easier 😅
Fischyresistance@reddit
They're a slightly different lactase enzyme. The boots tablets need to be taken 30 mins before eating as they work in the intestine, whereas the H+B and lactaid chewable work in the stomach.
I find the Boots ones to be SUPER effective as the enzyme has more time in an environment that suits it without breaking down, 2 hours for stomach vs however long in the intestine.
Another good option for a quick acting one is the lact-aid chewable. Super high dose, broken up so it can get to work and the Raspberry ones don't taste bad at all.
I like a combo of some stomach ones and the Boots tablets for when I'm indulging.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
Oh INTERESTING, that's a real game changer for some situations! Thank you so much for this info, it's genuinely so helpful 🥹 I'll get a pair later and try them, you might have just given me THE viable alternative.
The ones I currently have from Germany are chewables too, but with a more pleasant flavour than the Lact-Aid ones - they're not bad by any means, I just found that for me personally the raspberry flavour lingers a little too long. Not an issue if I want to have ice cream, but not quite so fun if I want to have pizza or cheesy pasta 😂
Indulging is exactly what I was thinking of - sometimes I just want dairy for every course, and then I always wonder if this is the moment my pills will fail me 🫠 a combo would solve that for sure
Fischyresistance@reddit
If I'm just rocking the boots ones I'll take 4 to start 3p mins before and drop a few extra through the meal. I've sat down and eaten full meals packed with dairy and been absolutely fine with that strategy.
Ignore the warnings on the packet to only take 1, I've checked with medics and done some googling and can't see what taking more could cause.
What tablets are you getting from Germany? If they taste better than lact-aid I will be getting some!
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
Oh yeah, I've absolutely ignored the warnings before 😂 my family GP is who recommended them in the first place, and she said the 'just take one' is stupid and doesn't actually work for people, plus it can't really do harm. (They might lose effectiveness if you use them every day and in excessive doses, but that's about it.)
I always get (these from DM)[https://www.dm.de/sanotact-express-laktase-13000-kautabletten-p4003087441953.html] - they have a slightly sweet taste, but I find it very inoffensive! I wish they did refills, so you only have to buy one metal tin, but that's basically my only gripe 😂
Fischyresistance@reddit
Weird that they might lose effectiveness. I've found more frequent use means I suffer way less. I suppose you are introducing sugars for the bacteria to use in your gut so they'll multiply and cause problems
Thanks for the recommendations!

Similar for gluten free. Made life so much easier for the 1% of coeliacs out there.

My breastfed baby has a cows milk protein allergy and an egg allergy. Discovering how good some vegan options are now has kept me a bit more sane!
Liantasse@reddit
My daughter was the same (breastfed for over 3 years) and she grew out of both! Probiotics helped. They help a lot in general. All the best to you and your baby! 🩷
SprintsAC@reddit
Do you have any recommendations for vegan cheese? I'm vegetarian & living with ARFID, but really want to move closer towards veganism. (Vegan butter etc is great, so may aswell find a cheese).
ChaoticR8chel@reddit
I'm a big fan of the Cathedral City extra mature. I've been vegan over 7 years so my memory of the flavour is getting fuzzier, but it's the closest of the vegan cheeses I've tried. Babybel plant based are also great as a little snack. If there's a Waitrose near you, they've started stocking some of the fancy ones. La Fauxmagerie does a blue that's good (although I didn't really like blue cheese even before), and there's another company that does a kimchi vegan cheese, Palace Culture; delicious! There's an online shop, I Am Nut OK. Quite pricey, but very tasty.
If you ever want to try making your own, I highly recommend Miyoko Schinner's books. I've made several of hers and they were so tasty. The almond feta tastes exactly like my memory of feta. I've also got The Non-Dairy Evolution by Skye Michael Conroy, but haven't made any of them yet. And also check out r/vegancheesemaking
SprintsAC@reddit
Thank you! Unfortunately there's no Waitrose anywhere near me that I'm aware of, but I really appreciate such a detailed comment. 😊
I'll be looking at these options (I didn't know Cathedral City did vegan products!) -- hopefully you don't mind me asking also, but is there anything I should be aware of when melting vegan cheese? (For pizzas etc), I've had some people say that the cheese either ends up very chewy, or very hot & I'm hopeful that this isn't applicable to all of the available brands. 😅
ChaoticR8chel@reddit
I can't say I've ever had a chewy one, and I'd say all cheese gets surface-of-the-sun hot when melted! A tip to help with better melting; once I've topped something with grated vegan cheese, I use a spray bottle to squirt a little water over the top. Cover it for a few minutes, then uncover to get some colour.
I've got a YouTube cooking channel where I play around with food and give lots of tips and advice, but I don't know if posting links/self promo is allowed here. If you click on my profile, you should see the link. I couldn't get it to work on the YouTube specific button, so I just did a generic one
bumblebeesanddaisies@reddit
Yes! My mum was with us for Christmas and she's been unwell and was having to follow a lactose/dairy free diet and it was so much easier knowing I could chose a vegan version of whatever it was like Xmas pudding or brandy "cream" and that it would be ok for her to eat!
BaseballFuryThurman@reddit
It's also good if you have vegan friends because it's easier for the group to find somewhere to go out for food. It wasn't that long ago that I was in a relationship with a vegan we had to be picky about where we went out to eat. Even grocery shopping was a task.
Jlaw118@reddit
I go through phases of trying to cut dairy out of my diet and found some fantastic vegan alternatives over the years, but then when I find something I really enjoy, they disappear from the shelves 😩

I am still mourning the loss of Morningside Farm vegan bacon. H&B used to have it years ago, but not now.

Before they went under pattiserrie Valerie did a gorgeous vegan raspberry cake. I am not a vegan I chose it purely on how nice it looked and I miss it.
ProfessionalGrade423@reddit
Did they go under? I just had a mango/passion fruit cake delivered for my daughter’s birthday a couple months ago. It was a bit too sweet for me but she loved it and it was very pretty.
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
All the ones in my local area (and in London where I spend a decent amount of time) shut down a few years back. I assumed they had gone under especially as I saw stuff in the news about accounts irregularities but it may be they are still going along.
Mango and passionfruit cake sounds delicious.
Fancy-Professor-7113@reddit
There's one in Bromley still, but I think they got sold off. My wedding cakes came from the original shop in Soho (the chocolate roses) and I don't think they do them any more. You might get lucky with your raspberry cake though.
ProfessionalGrade423@reddit
Oh that sounds amazing! I wonder if they switched to mostly online business after their financial troubles. That would actually make sense, get rid of the brick and mortar stores and do delivery only.

You can order patisserie Valerie online for delivery. I’ve got one sat in my fridge right now.

Vegan stuff is great in that respect. We have a gluten-free gravy powder at work, which also happens to be vegan, so it does two useful things.
Eyfura@reddit
I wish it were all like that. Our local stores cold and frozen free from sections are almost entirely gluten filled vegan things now. Gluten free + egg free is difficult.

I am vegan regardless but never really liked cow's milk growing up (never care for the smell) and the explosion in alternative milks has been great for me.

Anything to do with higher awareness and understanding of depression/anxiety/autism. I’m officially diagnosed with the first two and have been since 1995 and generally have been really open about it.

This will probably get lost, but the Dubai chocolate trend is... An interesting one. A bit of a conspiracy, but if you talk to anyone whose been following California water rights for a while, one of the big conversations over the last 20 years has been the amount of water going towards pistachio production. Pistachios take a lot of water, and California doesn't get the rain patterns that would justify producing pistachios there.
Despite this, California has become the top pistachio producing region of the world in the past few years. Why? Well, the previous top producer? Iran. Bit of a conspiracy, but I reckon the American government might be pushing pistachio production in California to undercut the iranian economy, and the trend for Dubai chocolate was likely initially subsided by the American pistachio industry as part of this. (That bit really is a conspiracy).
Now I read this on Tumblr, and I had put it mostly out of my mind until last week or so, when I saw the strangest advert for Californian pistachios on the London underground. It's a weird campaign, marketing them as a health product (the tagline is something like "49 pistachios a day for health", with ticks next to words like natural).
Personally I don't really eat pistachios, but I think I'll stay away from the American ones all the same.
6f937f00-3166-11e4-8@reddit
If you want to damage the Iranian pistachio industry, surely starting a pistachio-related food trend is the last thing you should do?
Life_Put1070@reddit
I think the idea goes that they initially set out to undercut that industry, but have ended up with far more pistachios than they can sell, so they push new ways to eat pistachios (Dubai chocolate) once they have gained market dominance, alongside cultivating export markets (adverts on the tube).
Not a bad question, but the push for pistachio market dominance was only won in the past couple years.
Ok_Parsley_4961@reddit
The unrelated conspiracy I heard of is that Turkey (another big producer) produced pistachios that were rejected for exporting due to bad quality. So they pushed this trend to be able to use the pistachios up internally. Then it blew up

Oat milk. I am not lactose intolerant and have no medical reason for not drinking cow's milk, I just don't like it and never have. I used to eat cereal DRY rather than have cow's milk on it. I know it makes me a bit of a Guardian reading stereotype, etc etc but I am very happy with my oat milk lattes, oat milk on cereal and porridge made with oat milk (try it).
Salt-Hotel6983@reddit
Same! Always hated milk. To me it’s always had such a weird aftertaste, Oat milk is just so creamy and no horrible aftertaste. Oat milk in matcha is literally perfect 🥺

Haha, it’s definitely been in date. I just hate the taste!

I'm lactose intolerant, and whilst there are plenty of lactose free milk options, I prefer my coffee made with Oatly Barista. Though I do have lactase enzyme drops so I can have lactose free milk to make ice cream.
ChaoticR8chel@reddit
Have you ever tried Minor Figures barista? It's even better (in my opinion). Not as widely available yet, so I buy boxes of 6 x litre cartons from Amazon on monthly subscription

Yes! I still prefer Oatly, though I also really like Califa!

Ooh same! I much prefer the taste and texture of oat milk. I feel like for me cow's milk has a really strange aftertaste.

Laxly@reddit
Same, I tried oat milk a few years ago and instantly realised that it made tea and coffee taste so much nicer, so I swapped to it. I still occasionally buy cows milk for certain things, but it's very rare.
But yeah, I get looks from friends and colleagues when we get coffee and I ask for oat milk lol
SMTRodent@reddit
I switched to barista blend oat milk for coffee because I preferred the flavour to cow's milk.
Still have cow's milk in tea and on cereal.
Laxly@reddit
I'll still have cows milk in cereal if I buy it as oat milk is a little too thick for cereal, but I have the brain oat milk in all hot drinks
ElectricalInflation@reddit
It’s coconut milk for me. I hate milk but can manage if I can’t taste it. But after milk substitutes becoming more popular I can drink all those milky drinks I’ve never been able to.
Thank u vegans.

Since I switched to oat milk, having dairy milk on cereal tastes so bland. Love that extra oaty flavour.
Great in my tea too
Blue_wine_sloth@reddit
Have it in porridge for double the oats!
It’s nice with coffee but I don’t like it in my tea, I’ll use soy milk for that.

Oat milk in coffee is elite. Tastes to me like you’ve already dipped a biscuit in it.
BaseballFuryThurman@reddit
Someone in a recent "what trends do you hate" thread said Biscoff being everywhere. Which is weird because surely you just don't have to eat Biscoff stuff, it's never the only option. But personally I bloody love Biscoff so there being Biscoff-flavoured stuff everywhere you look suits me just fine.
Same with IPAs. Redditors love crying about IPAs, but I typically prefer them to a lager so I'm happy to see them so easy to get in every pub.
Ok_Parsley_4961@reddit
The annoying thing about IPAs is that it limits the other specialty beer on tap, like porters, stouts, etc, which I prefer to lagers and IPAs
C0nnectionTerminat3d@reddit
i truly truly hate calling it a trend but the recent rise in Autism awareness and education has been exponentially helpful for me. People are way more understanding and public places are much more accommodating. Small things like noise cancelling gear, sensory friendly clothes and stim toys are much easier and cheaper to access and best of all; they started making stim toys out of my special interest 😎
otempora69@reddit
I'm an autistic woman and I'm pregnant with my first child. If the kid's autistic, I'm so happy that they're coming into a world with more understanding than the one I grew up in
deadlygaming11@reddit
Yeah. It's a double-edged sword. On one hand, our issue is more well known and read about, but on the other hand, it's causing a lot of people to claim to be autistic which tends to cause issues for actual autistics.
ClumsyPersimmon@reddit
I agree. It’s made me feel a bit embarrassed to be autistic as it seems to be the latest ‘trend’ and a lot of people seem to be very mildly affected.

Ok, now I need to know what your special interest is. I find it interesting to know what other people find interesting!
C0nnectionTerminat3d@reddit
Five Nights at Freddy’s! pretty typical of autistic people i think, there’s a ton of squishy stim toys and fidgets on the market now for them. Oh ok, very cool. I saw the movie and it was fun but I admit I preferred the nick cage knock off version! I love horror so it’s right up my alley.

I probably wouldn’t have realised I was autistic without social media and would still be struggling trying various medications and therapies that don’t work for disorders I don’t actually have
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I see what you mean. I wasn't sure how to phrase my question "trend" seemed to fit best.
One thing I noticed is having autism is now seen as "trying to be quirky" especially if you are low support needs (I think that is now the preferred term for what used to be "high functioning) and especially especially if you are female. So sometimes I don't get taken as seriously as I did as one of the few "high functioning" female autistic people who got diagnosed as a kid before the awareness. On balance the current situation is still better but it isn't perfect.
Can I ask what your special interest they make stim toys out of is?
LittleSadRufus@reddit
Dubai chocolate rode the pistachio trend, it didn't start it. Pistachios were identified/selected as the next big trend by the Big Food companies that decide these things. I saw a Reddit comment over a year ago by a food scientist saying it was on their road map as the next sweet taste trend in the mould of biscoff / salted caramel / hazelnut before it.
The savoury taste trend was predicted to be hot honey (more broadly, "sweet -spicy") which I've seen less of tbh. Research suggests that might become bigger next year now.
Reading into it, next year's sweet trend is expected to be botanical infusions, which would be great as it would be nice for pistachios too be affordable again.
CoolWiener@reddit
Is that selection based on an attempt to generate sales or more on the supply of the item?
LittleSadRufus@reddit
I think it's just figuring out what can be made fashionable. Much of the pistachio-, flavoured stuff isn't even made using a huge amount of pistachio, green colouring and almond paste does a lot of the work.

Salted caramel everything

Talking about how ADHD shows up in adult women, particularly those late diagnosed. The reels on Instagram of women talking about it made it click for me and led me to getting diagnosed. Now I’m starting to finally work with my brain rather than against it and be less hard on myself after 35 years. It’s very liberating

Going to be a bit weird here and choose a social media thing, if anybody remembers that little boy talking about corn? One of the people who does that kind of thing turned it into a son… “it’s corn! A big lump with knobs, it has the juice (it has the juice)”. It’s so random, but I like to listen to it now and then. It reminds me of the pure joy that we can get from the most random things. That kid truly loved corn! Nothing manufactured about it, he just thought it was amazing (“when I tried it with butter, everything changed”).
Sticking to the theme, I like to listen to that Rebecca Black song ‘Friday’ on a Friday. And sing it to the people who’re unfortunate enough to be around me. Clearly, I don’t have good taste.
bumblebeesanddaisies@reddit
Every Friday I sing that 🤣🥰 also I love all of those songs like the boy with the corn! Dayum burger, backing up, you know nothing John snow and I think it is called boogity amen! There's more too but I love them 🤣

Gotta get down on Friday.

I’ve been vegetarian for about 20 years mainly because the taste and texture of meat grossed me out, so the increase in options over the past decade has been great. We used to be stuck with plain pasta or an omelette but flavourful veggie food is so much better now. I could do without everything being specifically vegan though, as I will never give up chocolate and vegan cheese is revolting.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
A lot of them are so... Cheesy. Obviously that's a good thing for SOME, but I want my mozzarella to be mild and not taste of the heaps of nutritional yeast that go into a lot of vegan stuff to make it cheesy.
I've found some very very nice ones (Julienne Bruno make vegan burrata that has that really nice lactic taste - the first time I had it was at Pizza Pilgrims and I panicked thinking it was real cheese, it's THAT good. Fooled all my dairy eating friends too) but sadly they are, of course, also very spenny 🥲
Sad-Peace@reddit
Ah maybe I've just had the cheap stuff then, for me it feels the opposite of cheese, no flavour and all gluey and sticky.
pintsized_baepsae@reddit
I think I've just been lucky in that I didn't get one of those, but what I got turned me off so bad it cured me from ever trying again 😅
Other-Coffee-9109@reddit
Back in the day, the only meat substitute readily available was bean feast, which was sold in a packet. It was dry and you added liquid to it. It was also horrible.
There are so many meat free options now, it's great. Plus when you eat out, it's not just stuffed peppers anymore (or nut roast, who likes nut roast!?).
I've always been an awkward vegetarian, I've never liked eggs or 95% of cheese. So it's definitely better for me now because with vegan options there is no cheese or eggs.
Sad-Peace@reddit
Stuffed peppers! Forgot about them haha. I'm kind of semi-awkward, eggs disgust me in most forms (inside a cake, fine!) but I love cheese.
ViSaph@reddit
I've been veggie my whole life because my family mostly are and I've never felt the need to start eating it and compared to when I was a kid there is so much choice! I'm also not a fan of vegan dairy but otherwise eating out is so much easier now. Also people are much less likely to start immediately trying to pressure me to "just try a little bit" like they used to and more likely to be able to decently feed me if they invite me round for tea.
MaltDizney@reddit
Oof people won't like this one, but as a guy that has always enjoyed the... juicier things in life...
BBLs (and the general thicc aesthetic acceptance).
I'd never encourage anyone to get one though, as it's a very dangerous procedure.

I'm a cyclist, everyone hates me, no matter how much respect i give to every other road user i get hate, but at 53 and thinking about all the cash its saved me, i'm now thinking about retirement(i'll get hate for that too) i'll say it worked out quite well for me.

Leopard print clothing. It all went on Vinted as soon as the influencers stopped wearing it and I swooped in to buy it all
Busy-Replacement-421@reddit
Absolute win! One person's fashion burnout is another person's dream haul Leopard print's basically a neutral anyway , timeless in the right hands.
MedicalHoneydew4534@reddit
That’s a win nothing like snagging cheap fashion once the hype dies down. Leopard print never really goes out of style anyway, just cycles!

I bought some women’s leopard print trousers for a joke to surprise to wife and daughter who often wear them. Turns out they’re so bloody comfy I might start buying more women’s clothes.

The alcohol free trend kicked off just as I got pregnant, it was great timing.
folklovermore_@reddit
I don't know if people are sick of it exactly but the recent proliferation of alcohol free beer/wine etc. As someone who doesn't drink all that often but doesn't just want to be on Diet Coke all night, it's nice to have a lot more choice of things available in pubs (as well as at home). The fact that it seems to have helped reduce the stigma around not drinking, or drinking less, is also welcome.
-Aqua-Lime-@reddit
I love how many no/low alcohol options seem to have popped up over the last few years. Even as someone who does drink on occasion, it's so nice to have good options for when I can't/don't want to. Like, I love non-alcoholic prosecco now being an option for if I'm at a celebration where I'm driving or on call or whatever.
ILovePencils13@reddit
Same! I had lunch at a pub yesterday and they had 6 non-alcoholic options (4 beers and 2 ciders) it was so nice to see. Usually you get 1 option, 2 if you're lucky.
mrs_shrew@reddit
I prefer zero beers on a night out, and I've noticed people are so much more accepting of you not drinking too. Maybe it's because I'm not in my early 20s but if I say I'm not drinking people no longer put pressure on me to have some nowadays
Stickers688@reddit
I gave up Alcohol Aug 23, I've noticed in just under 2 years that the selection is growing in shops, pubs.
Lopsided_Soup_3533@reddit
I sort of hope it continues so magnum bring back the pistachio magnums cos they were bangin

First they should bring back the original sizes, if not bigger, so that they can actually be called Magnums without having a sarcastic look of disappointment.

My wife is the same with the pistachio hype/craze, she looooooves pistachio and has been reveling in it.
ohsaycanyourock@reddit
I agree with the pistachio trend! I LOVE all things pistachio, Dubai chocolate, gelato, pastries etc. No doubt the trend will inevitably die but right now I'm loving all these companies jumping on the bandwagon 😆
folklovermore_@reddit
Can I just say, excellent username!
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
Inevitably it will cut right back but I'm hoping we end up with at least a couple of brands that keep a pistachio flavoured option.
cmdrxander@reddit
That’s probably when I’ll give it a go. No chance am I spending £5-10 on a bar of chocolate because of a trend, no matter how much I love pistachio.
No idea if that’s how much they really cost but I’ve heard they’re expensive
Firecrocodileatsea@reddit (OP)
I believe the deep filled bars are actually expensive to make and with expensive materials. My local independant chocolate shop does a dubai bar for £7.95 and they have a history of being as reasonably priced as an independant shop using quality ingredients can afford to be. But its about £2 more expensive than the biscoff or hazelnut deep filled bars they do. Which can be explained by the pistachio content I think.
I'd love to have it all the time but it has to be an occassional treat.
Stickers688@reddit
I'm with you on this one! It's everywhere,
Recent years I've noticed salted caramel flavoured everything, percy pig flavours... I remember about 10 years ago when you couldn't get away from pulled meat, even KFC had a pulled chicken burger.
SamVimesBootTheory@reddit
High waisted jeans/trousers like those actually fit me properly and are my ideal cut same for baggier cuts as well like finally I have comfortable jeans I want to wear
RaspberryJammm@reddit
I have a very long torso ( its so long I once cried at a photo of my own back but I was a little hormonal that day 😅) and I love oversized tops!
I have to wear high rise trousers for the same reason. I hope the baggy trend stays too as I have big painful legs that need to be free!
Other-Coffee-9109@reddit
I have a long torso too (and short legs) and it's so hard to get t-shirts that are long enough. It was fine when I was 19 and had a flat stomach, but now I'm a mum in her 40s, I want to cover my wobbly tum and stretch marks.

Bubble tea 🧋
My mum's Asian so I'd look forward to it whenever we'd visit her family on holiday
Now it's reached the UK and is EVERYWHERE and there's so much choice! There's even a place near me that does bubble tea frappes i.e. icecream mixed through with bubble tea and toppings
