TIL there're f14s in museums.
I was under the impression all of them were capped to preferential Iranians from getting spare parts.
buddhahat@reddit
you'll note this one is mostly just a shell.
Crazy__Donkey@reddit
I know, but i read somewhere every single airframe was destroyed for that reason, including shells.

There are many on display, and a few left at the Boneyard on museum. All but 1 or 2 of the displays have been de-milled (stripped) and had the wing boxes cut so they can never fly again.

Were any phoenix missiles ever used successfully in combat/conflict?
v8packard@reddit
Very much so, by Iran.

Is the P3 still there? A distant cousin of mine was a P3 pilot and donated some memorabilia that’s on display there. I soloed and earned my private license there in the early 80’s. Hickory will always have a place in my heart though I moved away 40 years ago.
Looking forward to more pics and videos.

It is! I posted a video of it, and will post some details photos of the outside and inside today!

Did you fly in and eat at the diner?
Rafiale@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately no. I just drove over to the museum/airport. And sadly I didn’t get a chance to try the diner.

Ah yes - the one with the stealth engines.
But seriously, thanks for posting this - I'm building a kit of one just now (Academy 1:72), and it's good to get a high-def walkaround.

The size of that Phoenix missile 😎

And by Grumman F-14D “Tomcat” you mean the most bad arsed fighter jet to have ever flown.
Icy-Communication823@reddit
Yeah, I'm a Top Gun kid. Fight me!
Cddye@reddit
I used to love flying into this airport.

I saw VFA-31 and 34. Both are squadrons I work with. Kinda cool seeing the legacy stuff.

Stay tuned for many more videos and photos from this museum. Also I would be remiss if I didn’t say, if you have a chance to visit this museum, please do support them.

That’s a great museum for how small it is! My parents live near there and I got to visit it last fall
