Can I fire the intern?
Posted by _SinisterMinister_@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 494 comments
Younger GenX here ('75). New college intern started in my showroom today. She's around 20 or so.
While making small talk with some coworkers I mentioned that when my youngest kid graduates HS in 2 years, I will probably be leaving my current state and relocating to the south.
Then this waifish little mammothrept immediately chimes in with "Oh, nice! Are you looking forward to retirement?"
For fucks sake.
I'M FORTY - FUCKING - NINE
Sure, some days I feel like I'm 70... but come on.
Guess I'll just go home, put on some soup, turn on my stories, and wait for my AARP packet to show up.
FML
Garbanzoscheese@reddit
You seem grumpy. Here's your Metamucil and a blanket. I turned on Matlock for you. Why don't you go sit in your recliner and I'll warm up your soup.
scope6262@reddit
And don’t forget my grilled cheese!!!
TheJokersChild@reddit
Hey, who's this lady on Matlock? Where's Andy Griffith?
Vast-Government-8994@reddit
Hubby just send me a picture of my invitation that came in the mail Wednesday
Stephen_California@reddit
Do you look 49?
CleverNickName-69@reddit
On the one hand, you could tell her that you're 49 and by the time you retire in 15 years she will be middle-aged.
She could probably use a little education and perspective.
feisty-banana-973@reddit
He was only 48??? 🤯
fleabus412@reddit
You know i looked up mammothrept and came away dissapointed.
Fish-Weekly@reddit
Not to pile on here but AARP is going to start sending you shit in the mail when you turn 50.
Wldchld73@reddit
I'm 51, signed up for AARP when I was 50, got $20 off a month for my cell, plus they have other deals. $20 isn't much, but less is still less.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
My wife already started getting it and she isn't even close to 50.
Classic_Barnacle_844@reddit
I'm 47 and I signed up for AARP this year. It's not just for old people anymore. There are good deals on there yo!
jIdiosyncratic@reddit
What did you find other than a discount at Denny's?
Bumberti@reddit
I got a free grocery tote!
jIdiosyncratic@reddit
Is that that thing that goes in your trunk? Looked nothing like the picture (after I had to call and ask why they didn't send it) and then it fell apart....
Classic_Barnacle_844@reddit
Amtrak yo! There are some good rates on savings and insurance as well that I need to look into. There are deals on travel packages. It's actually quite all encompassing.
jIdiosyncratic@reddit
Will look into it yo. But how did you get it at 47?
Lower_Ad3372@reddit
I joined AARP at 44. I got pre-sale tickets to the Rolling Stones (tour sponsored by AARP) and continue to shop for hotel discounts. I don’t mind saving some dough!
1questions@reddit
Back in the day the Stones used the Hell’s Angels for security and now they’re doing concerts sponsored by AARP? That’s hilarious! Just goes to show no one escapes death.
Klaatuprime@reddit
Except for Keith Richards and Willie Nelson.
1questions@reddit
True. No idea how Keith Richards is still alive.
Classic_Barnacle_844@reddit
There's no age restriction. There are just some benefits not available until retirement age.
MRPierceVT@reddit
When I turned 50, I expected my mailbox would overflow with mail from AARP. Instead, there was nothing. When my boomer husband joined AARP, they started sending mail to me as "the spouse of". Gee thanks AARP for making me feel even more invisible.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Ouch! I would ask him if he told them about you. lol.
Ok_Membership_8189@reddit
Mine came at 4
ChronoMonkeyX@reddit
Gotta get em when they're young!
IllustriousLobster36@reddit
A local cemetery sent me mail about a plot so my loved ones weren’t stuck with a burden. I was 22.
TakkataMSF@reddit
They went to the website that calculates when you'll die!
Good to know that thing is off. I was starting to get worried.
frapawhack@reddit
they were just trying to be kind
USAF_Retired2017@reddit
💀😂
dimestoredavinci@reddit
They saw how you were living and wanted you to clean up your act
boycott_maga@reddit
Or not?
SunshineAlways@reddit
I just mentioned recently that AARP started marketing to me in my 20s. Grr.
TakkataMSF@reddit
AARP can eat a bag of dicks. I mine started showing up at 40 as well. I'm not saying their services aren't valuable, but their timing sucks!
IAm5toned@reddit
that's because someone signed you up for it 😂
horsegrrl@reddit
Mine too, but my name was spelled wrong, making me suspicious that someone was screwing with me
Environmental-Gap380@reddit
Same.
6ft6squatch2point0@reddit
50 is the new 40. In AARP years...
kimincincy@reddit
35 here. I finally joined this year at 53
WhiskeyAndWhiskey97@reddit
I got my first AARP mailing when I was 19. It came to my college dorm.
333pickup@reddit
Were you receiving survivor's benefits? I started getting AARP.mail when I was 12
WhiskeyAndWhiskey97@reddit
Nope. I just thought it was hilarious. I stuck the little sample card they sent me to the outside of my dorm room door. My floormates got quite the laugh.
wardenferry419@reddit
Same. But I look older.
Diela1968@reddit
Same. Got my first AARP mail in my forties. What a racket.
MissTibbz@reddit
Same. Needless to say I wasn’t pleased.
Francis_Lynch@reddit
My wife fucking signed me up!? I said "you're fucking kidding me". She said it was for the discounts. Not worth it at all. Weird old people with gleaming white dentures and impossibly styled grey hair smiling at each other. Am I going to be that? It seems as far away now as it was in my 20s.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
lol. So you haven't whitened your teeth yet? For some reason that freaks me out. They are like glow in the dark or some shit. Not that I have tan teeth but mine are not florescent either.
Pernicious_Possum@reddit
Yup. Started for me about 6-8 months before I turned fifty
Klaatuprime@reddit
Yup. They started for me around the same time. I just got one of their mailers today and realized I've been getting them for ten years.
USAF_Retired2017@reddit
Mine started at around 40. I’m 47. They’re just going to have to wait.
gvarsity@reddit
I have the same name as my dad and started getting AARP stuff in my 20’s. Lol.
sewedthroughmyfinger@reddit
Got my first one for my 21st birthday.. We still laugh about it.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
WTH? someone must have signed you up for that.
ImCaffeinated_Chris@reddit
You can join AARP at 18.
Ryn8tor@reddit
You can also join by accident. I worked with a young lady who joined by trying to set up AAA.
fake-august@reddit
I just got mail from AARP for my 22 year old son!
Myfanwy66@reddit
Fun fact: AARP is a lobbying agency.
fake-august@reddit
I know! My son is 22 ffs
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Ok_Illustrator_7445@reddit
And once they start, they never stop.
cbmc18@reddit
Mine started in my 40s. I finally joined at 50.
No_Association9496@reddit
Can confirm.
Fit-Dark-4062@reddit
50? I got my first mailer from them at 30, joined around 45 because some of those discounts are really good.
itsmyvoice@reddit
Pro tip. You don't even have to be 50 to join. But some discounts aren't available if you're under 50.
wraithsonic@reddit
Nope. They started sending me shit when i was 45
AgeingChopper@reddit
I've been fortunate to never receive any "getting older" stuff in the post. Nothing. I seem to have escaped their gaze, as has my wife and she has passed 60 now,
_wednesday_76@reddit
48 and i've been getting it 10+ years
Rudeboy911@reddit
I just turned 50 2 weeks ago and that damned AARP mailer was there within days.
Moondra3x3-6@reddit
I'm still waiting for my damn tote bag I was promised at 50...and it's been 5 years! Sighs...
drinkslinger1974@reddit
They started sending things to me when I turned 30.
Shell_Beach_@reddit
They started sending me stuff around 25. I kept calling & telling them to take me off their list, I'm not eligible. Finally, I got tired of it & sent in a check to pay for it. They immediately sent it back w/a letter that I'm too young. The mail stopped after that lol
Average_Potato42@reddit
Those ass clowns started sending me shit in my mid 30's.
AstronomerForsaken65@reddit
Yeah, they can F off with that at 50. They even assume you are a member sometimes to see if you will go ahead and sign up because you’re senile or something.
SpacePirateWatney@reddit
50??? I’m 47 and started getting that shit around 3 years ago.
No_Mathematician7956@reddit
I'm in my 40s still and already receive it...
No_Bake_3627@reddit
I am 51 and have yet to get anything from AARP.
SpecificJunket8083@reddit
I have to admit I was a little sad when I got mine.
BaldBombshell@reddit
They started sending me stuff once I hit 40.
LippieLovinLady@reddit
They’ve been sending it to me since my 30s. They’re worse than cults trying to get you join.
PrairieGrrl5263@reddit
There's no age minimum to join AARP. Seven years ago I bought a lifetime membership. It paid for itself via discounts in the first 2 years.
Impossible_Diet6992@reddit
But do you get discounts at least?
Terrible-Detective93@reddit
wait till you start getting the cremation stuff and funeral planning- regards, an older genxer
bippityboppitybooboo@reddit
Ah yes, my first funeral preparation junk mail came in about 3 weeks ago. Yay me. Where's my glasses....
luthien310@reddit
I got mine yesterday! 😭 All about cremation. I don't want to be cremated!
Terrible-Detective93@reddit
Worse the local graveyard sent out questionnaires asking what the plan was - bury or cremate-so they 'can better serve the residents blah blah' No it's probably so they can speculate and report to shareholders- another place offered one of those 'free dinners' if we sit through a death lecture ted talk kind of thing. Sounds pleasant right? I've had several trollish thoughts inspired by this onslaught of junk mail as to how to deal with them.
luthien310@reddit
Please share. I might need ideas.
Turk482@reddit
My wife and I just did our pre planning last year. 55 and 54 years old. All jokes aside, it really is worth doing now if you can. No worrying about your spouse or children having to make decisions a day into grieving. Plus it’s honestly fun picking out what you want and where you want to be buried if that’s what you’re doing. We picked a nice hickory tree so it will be easy to find. You can decide what you want on your marker. Peace of mind.
hopeymouse13@reddit
Gonna love it when the "Geezer Mail" starts showing up 😂
blackcain@reddit
I have not gotten anything except for many once. I feel like AARP is a boomer thing
Eastern-Camera-1829@reddit
My wife turned 50 when I was 42.
And at 42 I USED those discounts.
Briilliant_Bob@reddit
When my AARP invitation came in the mail my son waved it in front of my face and asked me if I needed my glasses to read it. Then he asked me if I needed help getting up the stairs 😭 I'm 50
IcebergSlimFast@reddit
Kudos on raising a kid with a GenX-worthy understanding of how to employ sarcasm effectively!
luthien310@reddit
Fucking kids! I tell mine that all the time.
Parking_War979@reddit
The day I turned 50, the AARP invite showed up in the mail. But here’s the hack: you don’t have to be 50 to join.
They have all sorts of benefits (travel deals, shopping discounts, etc.) and they are available to anyone who wants to join.
Desmond2014@reddit
I am 48m and retired from military service in December of 2019 (I was 47 then) and (I’m not even kidding when I say this) April 1st, 2020 after my birthday in march and received my first AARP letter congratulating me on my retirement, lol.
hordaak2@reddit
Facts...im 52 now but when i turned 50 I got a thick ass envelope with all this "senior" benefits BULLSHIT. I tore that dumb ass shit up....hopefully they send that to OLD people...not me!!! ; )
cashewbiscuit@reddit
They send you an actual card. My wife is a year older than me. Her card came in the mail. I told her that now, she's a card carrying old person
falcopilot@reddit
Surprised they haven't already.
u35828@reddit
The discounts aren't worth the price of admission.
azrolator@reddit
My 2-years younger wife made fun of me when I got my first AARP mail. But then she got offered the seniors discount at the store unprompted. So I got the last laugh.
jderflinger@reddit
That’s a dangerous laugh
azrolator@reddit
Dangerous yet unavoidable laughter.
jderflinger@reddit
Not saying I won’t laugh, just saying I know the dangers
MaleficentExtent1777@reddit

Badrear@reddit
I signed up just to get a discount on my phone plan, and I’m younger than OP by a couple years.

sconniesid@reddit
I've been a member since I was 40. Lots of cheap gift card deals
AdJunior4923@reddit
On your fiftieth birthday they will track your ass down. You go to indochina, an AARP rep pops out a bowl of rice with your membership card. Pretty sure that's how we caught Bin Laden.
DaisyMaeMiller1984@reddit
This made me LOL for real 😂
Federal-Membership-1@reddit
And you can join at ANY age
Foulwinde@reddit
there is no real minimum age limit. You can join at 18 and start using those discounts.
WeathermanOnTheTown@reddit
I joined at 26. It was a fun party joke for a while.
Electrical-Act9084@reddit
I got my first invitation when I was 28 😂 I guess they thought I was ready
mrdaver911_2@reddit
Yo…you can get some dope discounts through AARP, don’t sleep on that shit!
Mr_MacGrubber@reddit
There’s no age limit for AARP. I’ve been a member since I was like 40 because it gives me a discount on my AT&T bill that’s greater than the cost of the membership.
Amyarchy@reddit
My freaking hilarious mother bought me an AARP membership.
Plus_Inevitable_771@reddit
Oh crap. That's in July.

JonnyRocks@reddit
AARP can be joined at any time
wiyanna@reddit
My husband started getting it around 40. Have no idea how they decide who’s on their mailing list
Kestrel_Iolani@reddit
First piece arrived exactly a week before my 50th. It offered access to a special virtual concert starring Debbie Gibson. Twist the fucking knife.
SadieMaxine@reddit
The day before I turned 50 the mail brought me the AARP invitation and a flyer to invite me to prepay for my final expenses.

Not just AARP, hearing aid companies, retirement communities, and Viking cruise lines
chartreuse_avocado@reddit
I am convinced Viking buys the NPR donor list. I have strange name misspelling my local NPR station can’t seem to fix and Viking has been sending me promo mail for nearly 20 years with the same unique misspelling.

I once had a co-worker who was literally old enough to be my son.
I mentioned something about Dolly Parton. He was puzzled for a moment, then said, “Oh, Miley Cyrus’ godmother!”
I don’t know if “no jury in the land…” applies, but I’m pretty sure, “no jury in Tennessee…” does.
Another time, a co-worker around my age and I were discussing 21 Jump Street. A younger member of the team informed us it was a movie, not a TV show.
One other time, we had an office Halloween party and somebody came dressed as Gilligan. Only I and one other person recognized him. (Though to be fair, that’s as much due to the fact many of my team were not born in America.)
He changed jobs a few months later, but if he had been there the next Halloween, I was going to offer to join him and dress as the Skipper. (We both have appropriate builds.)
“Gilligan! DROP those SQL tables!”
“Okay, Skipper!”
sound of web server crashing

I'd love to see the reaction upon learning that the Pirates of the Caribbean guy was in it. Reminds me of the time someone asked me why I kept referring to Mark Wahlburg as "Marky Mark."
I think it happens with every generation where you reach an age when you realize that so much of the media you consumed was just a remake or rehash of something earlier. I bet there were kids in ancient Rome going, "What do you mean Zeus came before Jupiter?"
sensitivelydifficult@reddit
I've experienced the same thing. My response was "retiring? No no, too young for that. I just need to get away from some of the people around here" I would also probably remain deadpan but full eye contact with said 20 year old. I am known as a bit of a jackass around work so maybe that's why I tend to get away with it.
MillicentFenwick@reddit
Hell, when I was in my 30s I thought 50 was ancient. I was talking to a young engineer in his 20s about a coworker retiring at 55, implying he was young to be doing this in the US (years away from state-sponsored health care and social security, as well as no pension). I knew that totally flew over his head when he replied, “I knew he was getting up there!”

Lol. I've read so many posts on reddit recently asking 'Old people' questions, advice or just generally interacting with us and it drives me crazy. I'm also 49. When I was a child I considered old people as around 70. Young adult/early 20s it went up to probably 80s or so. Now it's people in their 20s and younger just throwing the 'old people' term out there willy nilly. It's crazy.

Ew. I don’t understand why anyone would WANT to move to where you can’t go outside in the summer, where there is no water and everything is dying, and the politics are repressive and increasingly fascist and the intelligence is systematically dwindling.

As god is my witness; I will work “mammothrept” into an insult sometime in the next seven days. Feels like it would pair well with the adjective “mewling” or maybe “feckless”.
“This feckless, mewling mammothrept has the unmitigated AUDACITY” etc etc 😂😂😂 omg somebody piss me off this week I fucking dare ya

Are you sure you’re gen-x? Cuz comments like that should roll off your back if you l were gen-x as opposed to a dramatic emotional “young adult” still trying to get their shit together.
Plus, even younger gen-x is old as shit nowadays anyway. Heck, I’m 47 and I AM looking forward to retirement…that’s the next major milestone in life at our age (and then dying!). And you do realize they play music we listen to on the oldies station now, right???
Old_Employer8982@reddit
TBF I’m 48 and looking forward to retirement even if it isn’t for another 20 years.
bonesthadog@reddit
I'm 49, and my wife and I sat right next to the stage at a comedy club for her 45th birthday last night and got called the old guy repeatedly. Scanned the room, and yup, I WAS the old guy. We got told that we could be the sexy couple on the viagra commercials. Fucking hilarious. We had a blast. I'm more confident, with the experience to back it up than I've ever been. We're Gen X. We got this.

I once had an intern for a writing job and she couldn’t write well. I asked how she got through her degree in communications. She said she wrote the essays and her parents rewrote them and then she submitted. I asked if her parents would edit her work at the internship. She laughed. I was serious.

Here in Canukistan it’s CARP. So at 50 I proudly proclaimed “it’s official. I’m a Carp”. Even though I’ll still be working in my 70’s I chuckle at being a CARP.

What's with you guys and work? Are you a mammothrept or she? Do you like this type of struggle of a work, processing fees, investment, money, payments and mortgages so much where in the end you left with dick in your hand as you head of to the coffin?
Retirement is a great way to start your life. The real life where you do NOT know what to do, how to begin, like a child.

ih8javert@reddit
When you’re that young you don’t have a real perspective of age. Remember when we were in high school and we went to a concert?
Do you remember the old folks in the crowd that we thought were trying too hard?
Well that’s us now. We’re the old folks at the concert.
Last concert I went to, let out around 10 and I was in a rush to get home. When we were kids, there was an after concert thing and we were probably going to wander around the city all night and go home in the morning. I need a nap after lunch now.
waynofish@reddit
I go out to a couple bars that generally have pretty good bands and I get a kick out of the thin white hair grandpa/grandma looking crowd with wobbly knees, droopy boobies, stretched tattoos and a cane jamming out on the dance floor and head banging with their irons up when the band plays a Metallica or Iron Maiden song. Our nursing homes are going to be so cool!
ih8javert@reddit
Dude, when “the trooper” comes on who isn’t shaking their canes?
What you said about cool nursing homes made me think about grandparents of our generation. Do they hear Glenn Miller in the nursing home and think “whoa this nursing home rocks” 🤘🏻
newyork2E@reddit
Hate to break it to you but when we were 20 40 was old 50 was really old and 60 was you’re going to die in a minute
waynofish@reddit
I'm 57so I have almost 2 minutes left. But I hear you. I see programs that I watched in the 80's and 90's where the actors were old and now, they look like kids. Don't know if I'm liking this.
Are people in their 40's and 50's typically looking a lot younger now then years past? O is it that we have caught up, so we are seeing others our age as young looking now. When in reality, we look just like those old people we saw in the past to the younger gens.
United_Vacation_8509@reddit
I’m a younger GenX also. Back in the 90’s you probably would have thought the same thing. Relax gramps.

JimYamato@reddit
I was used to people thinking I’m younger than I am as a kid. Big baby face thing. I know all older generations think younger ones are crap - but the more I engage with 25 - 35 year olds in a business and professional context the more I’m actually concerned. This group has a capability deficiency in humaning of like 25% and within a professional capacity upwards of 50%. They are not up for the task at hand - the task is irrelevant.
WeathermanOnTheTown@reddit
I know exactly what you're talking about, but it's a bit younger. I think birth year 1998 was the dividing line. There's a distinct difference in pre-98 and post-98.

Capable-Moose5275@reddit
But when do I qualify for my fucking senior coffee? I’ve been waiting since I was a kid and my grandpa was demanding his senior coffee.
I WANT MY SENIOR COFFEE!!! 😂

I got my AARP packet the week I turned 50. Well played, I thought.
shelbygeorge29@reddit
Retired at 38, it ain't bad.
RunRunRabbitRunovich@reddit
Man AARP got me in the mail on my 50th and I threw it away 😂🙌 1975 sending Soonish Birthday wishes to you 🎉🥳🎊🍾
Jimmy4Funner@reddit
With an attitude like that, I'm sure she thought you were a grumpy old man.
Big-Sheepherder-6134@reddit
Is the OP a man? I assumed OP is a woman. Why would a 49 year old man care what a 20 year old says?
Big-Sheepherder-6134@reddit
Your comment could easily sound like you may be retiring early when you move.
Why do you even care what a 20 year old says? Is it a female thing?
two_awesome_dogs@reddit
I learned a new word today.
desertblaster72@reddit
I get AARP stuff at 52. To be far, I am retired though. Haha
feder_online@reddit
Yes, you can fire the intern. I would argue it is better to recalibrate them so they make better employees, like, "FFS, I'm 4-f-ing-9, not ready for retirement, you indolent year!!"
And, South is going to get blooded by Diaper Donnie's policies... I'd think that through a bit more economically
Superb-Ag-1114@reddit
ok but your AARP packet WILL show up next year, just fyi. Don't be alarmed.
415erOnReddit@reddit
JFC, and they never stop. And the calls from India about Medicare…. hearing aids…. You’re in for some fun, Chief!
Geek_Therapist@reddit
My 22 year old employee said her first impression of me was of "Hide the Pain Harold." I found d it hilarious and it just reminded me I feel younger than I look. 1977 era Gen Xer here.

I mean I'm Generation X and I'm looking forward to retirement.
Automatic-Unit-8307@reddit
When you’re 20 something, anyone over 40 is close to retirement. I once asked this person if he was retiring soon, turned out he was only 45, everyone thought he was 65
Whitey1969SC@reddit
Maybe she thought you were successful enough to retire early
Careless-Ability-748@reddit
I had to Google mammothrept. What a good word!
CaptainBeefsteak@reddit
You can just wallow in your Werthers Originals.
PntClkRpt@reddit
The answer is yes I’m looking forward to retirement, who the fuck isn’t
GramercyPlace@reddit
If I heard anyone say they were moving states to be closer to their adult children that’s exactly what I’d assume. It’s more the situation than you look old.
Spin_Me@reddit
Extra credit for using the term "mammothrept." Well done, Sir
AcousticsOperator@reddit
I’m 48 and already getting crematorium service options. 😭
Fit-Razzmatazz410@reddit
Having tables turned isn't fun and an eye-opening experience. No name generation had it out for the greatest generation. Boomers fought against the greatest generation and the no-name generation. Now Boomers get it from everyone. Sounds as if your generation is headed down the road. Saddle up, my friends. Hopefully, it's a long ride.
Always reminds me of Cats In The Cradle and The Living Years songs.
Terrorcuda17@reddit
Yeah. Recently it seems I'm getting 'sir' a lot more recently. I'm like, just call me 'dude' it's all good.
behaviorallogic@reddit
What about Duder, or el Duderino?
ivegotafastcar@reddit
lol… I’ll never forget when I was her age and with a group of interns. My VP mentioned she was celebrating her 30th work anniversary and her start date. Another intern blurted that’s before he was born. You should have wanted the VPs face drop and the guy looked scared.

TIL the word mammothrept. Thank you, internet stranger. I plan on using it often.
CleMike69@reddit
I would have said the same thing you you and I’m 55
hedgehog77433@reddit
I’m older GenX (58 this year), I would have botch slapped that intern!
Beegkitty@reddit
My grandparents and their siblings retired at 55. With pensions and social security. And owning property.
Social security doesn't kick in until what now?? 67? For full benefits. I don't think people realize - actually realize - how much older you have to be now to get social security. I really think they think it is still at 55 years old. So IF it were still 55, you would be only six years away from those "golden years" of reaping rewards or some such. Not damn near twenty years away. 18 - but close enough. They just don't know.
BillsBells65@reddit
AARP starts at 50 and is well worth the price of admission, especially if you travel
TakeMeOver_parachute@reddit
Why is it worth it? Can it really get me better deals than Costco travel?
BillsBells65@reddit
That I don’t know, but I remember saving $200 on a Budget rental of 12 days, and as I mentioned below, there are a lot of additional discounts that for me, make it worthwhile
awmaleg@reddit
What kind of travel benefits?
BillsBells65@reddit
Rental car discounts primarily, although they also have travel packages, hotels, etc. I haven’t used much beyond the car rental discounts at this point
Alarmed-Stage3412@reddit
And the insurance through The Hartford.
BillsBells65@reddit
Good point. I am waiting for our youngest to go on his own before we switch.
cawfytawk@reddit
Don't knock AARP... they have some good discounts!
Meh, don't let it get to you. She'll be getting Botox and chiropractic adjustments in 10 years.
TakeMeOver_parachute@reddit
OP has to know OED notes it as "archaic" 😂
0rangePod@reddit
TBF, kid graduating + leaving job + moving south...
I can see how someone might think retirement.

Lighten up Papaw.

MasterBeanCounter@reddit
Can you make them dust the entire showroom?
Big_Knobber@reddit
The correct answer to this - at any age - is, yes.
coolguymiles@reddit
OP, must have forgotten what happened at 40. One sneeze and your back is out for a week.
truemore45@reddit
So same year as you brother.
All my friends of the same age are moving north just had two come from Florida.
It's sad when the north has better weather, better healthcare and lower taxes. On top of better schools and better jobs. I mean when I was in Florida you went there cuz things were cheap.
Funny enough at the current rate when you and I are 75 SE Michigan is expected to have the same climate as northern Alabama.
robertwadehall@reddit
I moved from Arizona to NE Ohio when I was 46. 9 years of the sunny, hot, dusty desert shit was enough... back to my 4 seasons w/ green, gray skies and Lake Erie shores...
Shot_Campaign_5163@reddit
Yes do this.
Witty-Bake-2605@reddit
You're not that young my friend.
BloopityBlue@reddit
any time one of the Young Ones makes a comment like that to me I just run with it completely. "Yes, I am looking forward to retirement.... are you looking forward to working for the next 45 years, young one?"
Subject-Ad-8055@reddit
well are you???
Expat111@reddit
Has she worked for AARP in the past? I started to get AARP crap at 48.

I’m old enough age wise to move into one of those fancy active living communities. They’d love me coming done the road pumping my rap music. I’m going to age kicking a screaming
Slimjim6678@reddit
I’m only three years younger but I get you
Tech-Mechanic@reddit
I'm 57 and I thought it sounded like you were retiring too.
rabbplays@reddit
I might go fire an intern also, just out of solidarity.
boulevardpaleale@reddit
retirement will be pushed to 73 by that time anyway…
JackpineSauvage@reddit
"mammothrept"? Holy fuck, you ARE old! That had me rolling. I'm going to make a specific point to work that one into my vocabulary tomorrow.🤣
