How very magnanimous, considering his constant attempts at consolidating power.
SuizidKorken@reddit
Dont need a re-election if there are no elections
steroboros@reddit
He made himself a dictator like a decade ago, he has needed to be "elected" in a long time
Interesting-Rate@reddit
100% this. Why do I need re-election if I never have to leave.
Dry_Scientist3409@reddit
You cannot trust anything he says, sometimes he follows through but it's rarely the case.
However this time it might be different, he is pretty old and showing signs of dementia, his second man can come to play, he gained pretty nice velocity recently with his actions. Chances winning a fair election is pretty much zero, but AKP is not known for their fairness.
Overall as a Turk, I prefer to live my life without this piece of shit, ignoring kinda the only solution at this point.

He didn't say he wasn't "interested", he said he wasn't "troubled" with getting re-elected. Anyone who has spent enough time following TR politics would realize that his words suggest he would keep warping the political atmosphere (through further bullshit arrests or even appointing a trustee to CHP) such that he would be able to call an early election, facing an opponent that he would be able to beat. Unfortunately he will keep pushing his chances as long as he has the backing of US/EU just as he had for the last 23 years.

The conundrum of military alliances: you have to cope with the dynamic changes in policy of allied countries. EU and US would be pretty screwed without those Turkish air bases.
kapsama@reddit
Copout answer. Without US and EU backing he would never have been eligible to even run for Prime Minister due to his prison stint.
unofficialbds@reddit
i never understood why the us pressured turkey to release him, do you know why?
kapsama@reddit
Neo-Liberal economic policies is a big one. He deregulated entire industries and privatized huge state owned monopolies to sell them to foreign companies.
Currently he's also useful for things like hosting refugees that want to go to Europe or "recycling" European waste. But those were obviously not foreseen but only developed with time.

It is also important to point out that (in addition to the points you mentioned) before his prime minister-ship, he had multiple meetings with top US diplomats and officials, and received their go-ahead. His ability to break the chain of coalition governments made it very enticing for the US to put and keep him on the throne, as they finally got a strongman that willingly undermined the independence and the political power of the Turkish Army, played well with Likud governments, opposed the Baathist regimes, placed many US informants in critical positions, supported the Iraq war effort (it famously got struck down in the parliament due to his own MP's betraying him, one of the biggest disasters in his political career that had him fall out of US favor for a while) and also the Iraqi-Kurdistan, allowed the creation of another Kurdish state in Syria (many would say it happened due to his incompetence, I would argue it has always been the plan), declared the "Kurdish problem" his own vendetta (he is currently collaborating with the founder of PKK to write a new constitution) and overall been super supportive of Kurdish entities in the region (despite what Reddit would tell you). In essence, he has just been the perfect lapdog to the US in whatever they wanted for the ME region.

Hopefully, the people of Turkey will "remove" him from office sooner than later.
Erdogan has done horrible horrible things, he will be judged eventually.
How many more Kurds must die for him to be satisfied?
CowhideHorder@reddit
You are clueless as fk lmfao
Espeon06@reddit
You got me until the last sentence.
Pozitox@reddit
Tbh , a lot of people dislike him for being to soft on Kurds lol
kapsama@reddit
He's making peace with them as we speak. Their biggest separatist organization has laid down their arms and he's preparing to release their leader from prison.
Pozitox@reddit
Considering the trustworthiness of the PKK....yeah nah , they are bsing
helikophis@reddit
I would assume the answer is “all of them”
