I love looking at this way better than the digital dashboards.

Analog forever!
offsetbackingtoright@reddit
You are the captain of the ship with gauges, you monitor what is important to you in a particular moment and you make the decisions.
The digital dash tells you what it wants to tell you, and is making all the decisions, it just announces them to you because you are only along for the ride and to take the blame.
They could make a digital dash that would give you what you want and even be better than analog gauges (that was the whole original promise of digital electronics and computers), but they refuse to do so because they demand to be in charge of you, these people that have never driven a truck are determined to turn you into just a steering wheel holder.
ZipTieTechnicianOne@reddit
Digital dash freezes and has to think. Analog just works. It’s like the air horn. If there’s air, it’ll work.
bobmonkeyclown@reddit
Digital dashes are more accurate but it doesn't matter for most vehicles on the road.
The additional features on there could just be on a center console screen.
Guroqueen23@reddit
Analog dial guages also give you immediate intuitive feedback on how quickly their values are changing over time, if the dial is moving fast the value is changing fast. For a digital readout you have to mentally calculate how fast it's changing each time the number updates which is a lot slower and more annoying to do.
bobmonkeyclown@reddit
The digital dash in my merc was way more accurate than the analog gauges. For use on track it was better for paddle shifting.
In a truck its largely useless and freezes, and the digital dash in the T680 was not as quick and was annoying to read anything.
Guroqueen23@reddit
That's reasonable, I don't drive fast but I drive old shit and I want to see how my oil pressure gauge swings when i hit the gas, or if my battery voltage is actually bouncing around. I'm sure there's other pros and cons I haven't considered.
bobmonkeyclown@reddit
Its mostly to see RPMs and speed faster, the other stuff is close enough.
Usually on the track you're mostly concerned about shifting at the right time (BMW is better than Mercedes for this as their paddles respond better). You'll know for a fact when other shit goes wrong, but the oil (and pressure) and coolant temps are just as accurate. On the truck this doesn't matter. You just now have a screen that somehow freezes despite being tech that's been around long enough.
I'd rather have analog cause the digital screen on trucks sucks for display.
restingracer@reddit
Not trying to be rude, but I don't think I know single (i am from Europe) truck driver who would change his modern cabover for this narrow cab, split windshield, dash from scrap plywood, poor visibility, crash box, truck that hasn't changed from 60s.
Probably fun to take a spin for, but for everyday work? Nah
BrussKnackles@reddit
I love old dashes and trucks, but something about the ease of looking at the digital speedometer makes me like em a bit.
Outlaw11091@reddit
Lol, there's only two gauges on here you don't get in a digital display, but that's because they're useless information to a driver and this image actually proves it.
Your vacuum pressure is in the red. What are you doing about that? Nothing because it doesn't matter.
Your manifold pressure is somewhere below 0.....even though the engine is turning RPM's. Which is why it is a useless gauge. It is supposed to be an indication of engine power based on how much air it is pulling in, but they stopped using it because air intake varies so much that using it to "gauge" anything is stupid when you have the rotations of the engine displayed in front of you.
FFS.

This has nothing to do with which dashboard is better. I never said one was superior I said (keyword here is I) I prefer the look of the analog dash in my 379 over a digital one. It’s just a personal preference. My other truck is a 389 with a digital dash, so I know what features it offers. Yes, it’s definitely more advanced and nicer in many ways, but I still like the classic look of the older dash better.
Outlaw11091@reddit
Oh. You don't understand what "preferences" are......by saying "I prefer" you're saying that YOU believe that one is superior.
That's the LITERAL definition of a preference.
...again...ffs.
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
Yes I could have worded that differently because yes I think the look of it is superior over the digital dash. I also think the CAT 3406e it has in it is superior over the Cummins x15 in my new one. Is that ok with you or is something wrong with that also?
Outlaw11091@reddit
Lol. You might need to go talk to some real life people if your ego is this fragile...
nsSTLamr_whyteout@reddit
Says the guy who caused an accident because your ego couldn’t handle a car slowing down and speeding up. Who’s got the fragile ego? And let’s talk about your resume how many companies in 8 years? What’s that, like one every time someone bruised your feelings? Let me guess, it was always their fault, never yours. Classic.
Outlaw11091@reddit
Says the guy who caused an accident because he didn't see the road a person was turning onto because of a snow bank. Says a guy that got his ticket dismissed because the dash cam backed up his claim. Says the guy who was recently told by a judge that he responded exactly as a truck driver is expected to.
Not me. Hint: if I did, you wouldn't be able to find this information in my history.
Takes a lot more than "You've done this shit" to hurt my feelings.
nsSTLamr_whyteout@reddit
You wouldn’t have felt the need to respond with all that if that was the case. Regardless of the outcome it still happened. Your ego still caused you to react the way you did.
Outlaw11091@reddit
Not true. I always respond unless there's nothing else to say.
Also not true: my desire to not have an accident caused me to respond the way that I did. If I had stopped and slowed down as I had before with this vehicle, there was no guarantee that she wouldn't have slammed on her brakes to cause an accident, which is why the judge agreed with me.
Trailer was empty, I wasn't in a hurry and the accident happened at very low speed (hence no injuries).
Made my peace with it; so should you.
nsSTLamr_whyteout@reddit
Sure thing, champ. You managed to spin your way out of it impressive really. Congrats on that. But let’s not gloss over the part where you admitted you were frustrated. That’s usually ego waving a white flag. And if you put half as much effort into keeping a job as you do into justifying nonsense on Reddit, maybe you wouldn’t be bouncing around companies like a pinball.
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
Let’s be fair looking at those companies they are definitely not the greatest ones around. It could be they just have not found the right fit yet. A lot of shitty ass companies out there. That’s why I am thankful I have my own company.
Outlaw11091@reddit
I specifically apply at shitty companies because
a) they're very easy to get into as an experienced driver.
b) I don't intend on keeping the job.
I have a career making great money. My CDL is a fall back for when my career hits a lull.
I don't work for "good" companies so that other drivers can have those spots. I'll take the shitty ones no one else wants.
Outlaw11091@reddit
What does that have to do with ego? Being frustrated with a situation and dealing with it are a part of life. I made a decision based on experience.
I'm on Reddit to discuss things. Since you're so into my post history, you'd see that I do this with anything on Reddit. What an ego YOU must have to think that this is somehow unique...after reading all the bullshit I reply to. LOL.
Not likely. I bounce around companies like a pinball because my CDL is a fallback for when my actual "job" is in a lull. I worked for Knight for the first 3 years because they used to allow you to take a leave of absence and return at will.
Most of the companies don't do this anymore, so, you've got to quit...which always pisses them off no matter how much advance warning you give.
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
Why would I want to do that when I have you to talk to on here? What is the fun in that?
P3tr0@reddit
Not enough gauges on that dash driver
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
Definitely could use more
Jiangcool9@reddit
This gives me trypophobia
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
Well damn I learned something new😂😂😂 Had to look that up.
DrummingNozzle@reddit
All black matte finish plastic with orange needles and white ink, sure. Ugly glaring chrome and shiny fake wood is too hard on the eyes to adjust from watching road & mirrors to the unnecessary bright glaring shine of the chrome. No thanks.
Outlaw11091@reddit
The minute a truck goes to pass you, all that dash will be reflecting their LED's right back in your face.
luddite86@reddit
The wood pattern hurts your eyes???
Fucking hell, people are bloody soft these days haha
DrummingNozzle@reddit
Shiny glare. Any substance used with a shiny glare. Fucking heel, people are bloody illiterate these days haha ("illiterate" means people can't read)
InvestigatorBroad114@reddit
Only way I like it. I think I have 21 on my dash
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
Nice. My other truck had a lot also. I should have never sold it 😒
tractorferret@reddit
Had a next gen t880 and went into a w900L with the full gauge package and I don’t think I want to go back lol the digital dash was nice but a full gauge package is far better, what’s even better is the classic gauges like you have but I prefer the more modern dash style
theREAL_ENIGMA_@reddit (OP)
W900s with the full gauge package definitely have a nice look to them.
FursonaNonGrata@reddit
Just makes you feel bad ass. My 02 freightliner had an old style dash except for the screen and computer.
Like being in an old trucker movie.
Pastorfuzz69@reddit
Yes, much better than digital. I miss my old 379 with the Corvette dash.
