We’re not all Karen’s and Jerks

Do you think we’re a pretty easy-going generation overall? I know there are a lot of Karen’s and ***holes out there but I don’t get irritated at kids being loud and having fun outside, harmless pranks, getting in fights over non-important things, being generally argumentative and absolutely HAVING to prove a point or maybe we live up to our rep as not caring lol.
diogenesRetriever@reddit
The X meant undefined/undefinable. We're not all anything.
Use_this_1@reddit
The same can be said of all generations.
Nikadaemus@reddit
We had the least amount of propaganda and interference
Same can't be said afterwards
Use_this_1@reddit
GenX voted for the menace more than any other generation.
Nikadaemus@reddit
Menace?
Use_this_1@reddit
Think American "leader"
Ok-Rock2345@reddit
Are you kidding??? Just look at the presidents we had growing up.
Nikadaemus@reddit
Did you legit listen to them?
I couldn't have cared or less about who was our PM
Ok-Rock2345@reddit
Oh, hell no! I did vote as soon as I could.
Use_this_1@reddit
Wow, we really think a little too highly of ourselves.
Additional_Good4200@reddit
You’ve been downvoted for saying that there are good people in every generation. You’re just telling a simple truth.
diogenesRetriever@reddit
Yeah but we're the ones who got the label.
Miserable_Jacket_129@reddit
As I’ve grown older, the things that bother me have changed, but I’m still pretty laid back. I raised noisy, rambunctious kids so kids like that don’t bother me. People that can’t zipper merge or that camp in the left lane make me furious though.
sugarlump858@reddit
People who dont use their turn signals and who are blocking the right turn lane will piss me off. Guaranteed.
TurnItOffandOn26@reddit
Same with me. My daughter is turning 15 and I have been teaching her to drive. When I gave her the basic lesson on pedals, she told me that she knew the gas pedal was the one on the right because I am always saying “Its the pedal on the right people” when the light turns green.
sugarlump858@reddit
I'm always saying/yelling, "No, go ahead. Take all my time in the world." Or "Are you waiting for an invitation?"
deagh@reddit
I'm assuming you mean like sitting there a good bit of time because they're on their phone at the light, but I do check both ways before going, even when the light is green, because three times now some asshole has blown through the red on the cross street, and if I'd gone right away, they'd've hit me. And yeah, it's only three times in like 40 years, but still. So I'm not too bothered by people not stepping on it when the light changes.
sugarlump858@reddit
Definitely. People blow red lights here all the time. Once I was about to go through the intersection, and if I had rushed through, I would have been creamed by a little grandma.
I get frustrated with people who are clearly on their phone or something, and we miss the green light.
islandcatman@reddit
Keep right, pass left. Why is that hard? Thank you to all who understand what zipper merge means.
rabbplays@reddit
I think I found my twin
nevadapirate@reddit
Dont try to put us in any single box. We have the knowledge to burn it to the ground. I for one am the polar opposite of a Karen. I will ask nicely with a please to have a messed up order fixed." Hey you put ketchup on my burger can I please have one with no ketchup?"
Demonae@reddit
You're not a Karen if something annoys you. You're a Karen if you demand someone stop doing something reasonable because it annoys you.
Yelling at parents because their baby cries in public or on a plane.
Yelling at teenagers for skateboarding on a public sidewalk in front of your house.
Be annoyed, but keep your mouth shut.
rattfink11@reddit
I hate that term Karen. It’s misogynist. As soon as a woman pipes up they are Karen’s. Instead there are plenty of assholes out there: entitled, racist, oblivious, mean, self-centered, etc etc. I prefer naming the flaw rather than grouping ppl under this term.
In_The_End_63@reddit
I try to steer clear of pointless conflict. That said I struggle mightily avoiding getting sucked into others' anger management challenges and various intentional and unintentional manipulative behaviors. If I had to state a single hot button it's being manipulated or having attempts foisted on me.
Vicodin-ES@reddit
I don’t give a fuck at all what someone else is or isn’t doing.. it’s none of my business and I just don’t give a fuck what anybody else has going on, eeeeeeeeeeeeeever.. fuck you and your bullshit. Hope you have fun doing whatever it is.
flicman@reddit
Why is "Karen" possessive in this post but assholes and jerks not?
Otherwise-Mango2732@reddit
Just a typo/misuse of apostrophe i'd imagine.
jblue212@reddit
No one knows how to use apostrophes anymore.

Unfortunately, that was the first thing that jumped out at me, too. The whole possessive plural phenomenon happening out there.

The Karens go hard in the Boomer generation. Zoomers have outpaced the Karens and really need their own description. Millenial and Gen X Karens seem to be people who are wither woefully single, or parents that decided to have 3 kids in rapid succession, and now realize their American dream is just a treadmill. Or should I say, "dreadmill"
dstarpro@reddit
Nope, sorry, WE'RE the Karen generation, not the Boomers. The Boomers are eighty years old.
Minimum-Machine-231@reddit
At 52, my “not caring” has caused me to be called a class A Jerk throughout my life. But I don’t really give a shit so there’s that.
MaximumJones@reddit
I have noticed that Karens seem to not be based on age so much as wealth and perceived privilege.
i.e. they all seem to drive giant, brand new gas guzzling SUVS and believe all the peasants around them only exist to serve. I am leaving demographics out so as not to violate Reddit rules but we all know it. 😁
AnitaPeaDance@reddit
One of the things I've noticed about "Karen" videos is the women tend to be at that age where our hormones go all cattywampus.
MaximumJones@reddit
Wrong. How you feel is not within your control. But how you react is 100% completely within your control. It is called accountability.
ponyboycurtis1980@reddit
Bullshit excuse.
AnitaPeaDance@reddit
Hormones are pretty powerful. So is it a bullshit excuse when a guy gets an uncontrollable erection or is that okay?
ponyboycurtis1980@reddit
Getting an election is a biological response. Whipping it out and playing with it would be a choice where a reasonable adult could control the impulse.
AnitaPeaDance@reddit
And anger is not a biological response?
ponyboycurtis1980@reddit
Having a feeling and acting on a feeling are 2 completely different things. I teach middle school. If I lashed out every time someone did something stupid or cruel, I would be in prison and deserve it.
AnitaPeaDance@reddit
The Karen videos I've been exposed to amount to tantrums which hardly deserves prison time.
Middle school kids are not the same as peri/post menopausal women.
ponyboycurtis1980@reddit
Your reading comprehension s as bad as your logic. If I acted like a Karen to my kids I would go to jail or be fired and deserve it. And I have better reasons/motivations than someone was walking their dog or playing outside. At no point did I do my kids the dishonor of comparing them to some out of control Karen spout9ng racism and hate born from privilege
Major-Discount5011@reddit
I internalize everything now. It's a matter of processing anger and resentment. I find it's best just to STFU in today's society. I enjoy the small things in life because the big dream is over. Well, into my 50s now, and I care less and less. There's no point in screaming at the clouds. The gig is almost over.
Taodragons@reddit
We were at the park and my wife was grumbling about a bunch of kids standing on the tables....so in my best Pink Floyd impression I said "Hey! Karen! Leave those kids alone!" I thought it was funny......she was not amused
ponyboycurtis1980@reddit
Do I find myself with an old man "get off my lawn" mentality some days? Yes. Do I use my priviledge to harassment and intimidate others? Nope
JJQuantum@reddit
People who don’t take the right of way are really the only thing that pisses me off nowadays. You’re holding up traffic and the person you are trying to wave through is hesitating because they don’t know why you aren’t obeying traffic rules. Get the fuck out of the way.
AllegroMk1@reddit
i just want some peace and quiet, the wife is stuck in verbose narration mode.
OriginalFairmont@reddit
We let our girls ride bikes in the house and play in the woods. Animals were allowed in the beds, and the neighborhood kids left nerf darts in our yard constantly. It was awesome! The kid next door accidentally bounces his basketball off my Toyota frequently. So what. He’s outside playing and getting exercise.
Some of our neighbors don’t like it when kids run through their yards while playing. Those neighbors lost their GenX cred. Bad!
We tried to give our kids a similar childhood experience to ours (except there was always an adult home). Neither of our daughters got in any trouble and are now adults working and living their lives in the city, doing whatever they want.
My only regret is that I didn’t teach them to drink from the garden hose.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
Agreed. As a whole I think we are a laid back generation of folks. I personally see more millennial Karen's and Ken's then I do out group.
MonoBlancoATX@reddit
True. We're not.
But a WHOLE LOT of us are exactly that.
Judging by the number of "boomer" posts on this sub, I'd wager about half our generation are boomer Karens.
Pretend-Risk-342@reddit
Thanks to all of GenX for accepting accountability of Karenhood.
Imyourvenus9@reddit
See, you sound like a poser. Person who commented above was right.

KorryBoston@reddit
I draw the line in the sand when people park too close to me. And why are people still stealing valve stem caps? One of mine was just stolen this week
Any-Perception3198@reddit (OP)
The parking over the line makes me crazy. Especially down here in the southern US with all the huge trucks.
PaddlingInCircles@reddit
Compared to the new generation of feral monsters being raised today, I think our generation did fairly well.
Had I behaved like some of the kids today, I seriously would have been unable to sit for hours. Punishment was REAL, not some talking to about feelings. Thinking has been replaced with feeling, and entitlement is rampant.
Fluid_Anywhere_7015@reddit
God. One of the closest orgasmic experiences I've ever had was being able to call out an old former classmate of mine at a High School reunion for being a "Karen". It was hilarious being able to laugh out loud and say "Don't act like you're so special. Remember, I KNEW you when you were that age, and you were a snotty little brat."
