Impossible by definition I think

The west used to have the best regulation on the planet, then people stopped giving a fuck about all that
PABLOPANDAJD@reddit
When? And what does “best” mean?
L444ki@reddit
Better than anyone else in the history of the world. Still far from perfect, but a long way ahead anyone else.
PABLOPANDAJD@reddit
Again, when and how?
L444ki@reddit
Pick any country at any time on history and compare their regulatory system with any western country and you will see how much better the current western regulations are in comparison.
You can start with something easy like sanitation or hygine regulations and work your way up from there.
shadwocorner@reddit
Isn't that tied to modern technology though?
L444ki@reddit
Sure, technology and scientific knowlege allow for better regulations. That is why generally speaking more technologically advanced societies have better regulations.
OrderOfMagnitude@reddit
20th century, post-war and present-cold war desire for legitimate prosperity on both a national and personal level. Like that guy said, far from perfect, but name a competing place and time in all of human history.
shiggy345@reddit
Minor contention with the premise: 'psychopaths" i.e people with anti-social personality disorder (ASPD) aren't very successful in modern society. Most of them struggle with the deleterious aspects of the condition like impulsiveness and isolation, and as a result live in the marginal portions of society as poor, criminals, and addicts. The fact that many successful people have ASPD or display traits of ASPD is a survivorship bias, where their advantaged positions help to shield them from the vices of their condition.
mcgormack@reddit
This will be an unpopular opinion on Reddit: Our system doesn't reward psychopathy.
It rewards competitiveness and disagreeableness to an extend. But to get far in any field, in the long run, a person also needs to collaborate and make deals that are mutually beneficial.
A person who cannot do these things and can only backstab will mostly earn short term gains, while being at a disadvantage versus someone who can play fair.
eyegazer444@reddit
That's actually where the psychopathy comes in though. A mega wealthy person will know how to keep just enough relationships in good standing, while fucking over everyone else

Counterpoint: literally any billionaire
Kinipk@reddit
How is this crazy? We already live in a "system" like this

Keep coping.
AFewStupidQuestions@reddit
I suppose you expect everyone to be able to live without starving to death or without going into debt to pay medical bills, too. Absolutely crazy
RegionalOnAverage@reddit
In today’s economy? Yeah right pal
