ELP level 5 as a native Australian

Hello, recently just took my ELP test in UAE under GCAA. I’m born and raised in an Australia and I’ve managed to get a level 5 in this country. I’m extremely disappointed with this decision and level 6 is deemed as “native speaker”. I must dispute but can anyone tell me their experience and what to write and how to go about it. Thank you

Part of level 6 is talking enough, and it seems that this is where many native speakers fall. You have to describe the scenes (aural and photos), expand on the context, offer some insight etc, and keep talking until the examiner(s) tell you they have heard enough. For instance-
This is a meeting between a manager, x, and a pilot, y. X is investigating an incident where apparently this happened. Y is angry because z said that, which he didn't agree with. He believed that the other would have been more correct because...
Etc
Basically, you need to paint an intricate word-picture of the scenario with enough detail, understanding, conjecture and context for the examiner to be confident of the depth of your fluency and understanding.
Hope that helps!
ATCO/Pilot, Level 6.

That has nothing to do with my level of english. I just suck with creativity and making up stories with the pictures 😂😂. But that makes sense, I think I know what my issue was. Thank you

I know, right?! An American friend of mine also failed 6 because he just didn't talk enough. Just go into crazy detail. The grass is not just green. It's beautiful, emerald green. It's a clear blue sky, the kind you get on a late spting morning. It's a fire training exercise, not an accident. How can we tell? Because the aircraft is a hulk, clearly not serviceable. The firies look pleased, although that guy looks tired... You get the gist! 😂

No airline is asking for level 6. Everyone is happy as long as you have 5. Next time you do the test you might get 6.

GCAA won't give you a 6 straight off. You'll have to sit Level 5 & Level 6 at your next renewal if you want to extend/remove the period of validity.

Thanks, I know

By the way, an Aussie level 6 will still only get you a level 4 in the UAE, and it's similar elsewhere. I'm a British native-speaker and even Australia (when I worked there) wouldn't give me a level 6 without a test!

I assume you need a 6 to apply for a particular job?
I'd find someone else to do it again. Hell even just come back to Australia and get it done, we hand out 6's like candy here. It's ICAO-compliant so it's valid everywhere.

Yea currently training here in uae ATPL. I wanted a 6 to open my options but I just don’t get how it’s possible to get a level 5 when it’s the only language I speak fluently 😂😂.
Can I redo it back in Australia??
