What would you invest in?

Can you suggest an exciting and valuable hobby that I can invest in and collect? I don't want anything boring like collecting coins or stamps. I am willing to spend around £150 - £200 a month, possibly a bit more. Thank you in advance.

My new obsession is first-edition Japanese import CDs, mainly metal, mainly from the 1990s. The record labels made a bit more effort for the Japanese market, with bonus tracks and Japanese language booklets with lyrics and biographies. I think they did this to offset the delay in getting music to market in Japan, so the fans wouldn’t be tempted to buy bootleg copies. My pristine, limited edition copy of Queensryche’s ‘Empire’ is just wonderful. I’m really enjoying getting bundles of stuff from Japanese dealers every few weeks.

It depends what you find exciting to be honest, some people would be orgasmic about finding a mint penny black or even a pre 47 sixpence. Plus, They’re almost guaranteed to go up in value. A neighbour of mine in the late 80s had been collecting new matchbox cars and stuff since he was a kid and sold about a third of them for £10k. He loved the excitement of getting a new one each week or so. I don’t think he started off at 10 expecting to buy a house with them when he was 50 and made redundant.

Are you interested in investing or collecting, not necessarily the same thing. If I were young again and had £200 a month spare it would assuming I wanted something different from my pension be going into something like Vanguard or Dimensions trackers. If I had the space I'd be trying to find decent classic motorcycles but you need to save for a while first then have the room and resource.

I collect retro video games. It's a lot of fun finding a bargain at a car boot or charity shop and I get to play the games I played as a yoof.

It's funny how these things come and go. When I was a teenager about 15 years ago I could go into GAME and get PS1 games for about £1.50 each. The PS2 was out and therefore way more popular by this point. Now if I go into CeX a PS1 game is 10x that for a popular game, or up to £80 for a rare game.

Is this for mint condition? I e got lots of of PS1 and PS2 games in a CD case that I don't play anymore, but no original cases.

The top prices are for unboxed games for sure. You'd have to take them in for a price (and then maybe sell them yourself in eBay for more than a reseller shop would offer).

I would say anything from the 2000-2010s which people will have nostalgia for when they have money. Not saying this is a good idea but I have some signed XKCD prints which are the kind of thing I'm on about.
