I just dealt with that in Oak Grove, KY at the Pilot. At least ten of the truck spots had assholes in cars in them. No trailer. I told one guy in the AM , “this is truck parking. You’re not a truck. I watched at least 15 trucks who needed a place to park but couldn’t because you used a truck spot for a Mitsubishi. Cars park in front. There’s at least 50 open spots up there.” Unbelievably inconsiderate. I did light up his car like the sun for 15 minutes after I pulled in until my truck shut down.

They probably pick these spots for community saftey an if you just ask tem to move up an turn They will prob just Share the spot with you. There isn’t room for a car and a truck in the spot. They are sized for a single truck. If they want community on the truck lot, they should pile about 4-5 in one spot. Honestly, they could have their community in the car lot where cars belong.

Unreal. I’m not sure when this became a thing for assholes in 4 wheelers. If I’m bobtailing I don’t even park in the truck side. At least at night. The space is just too limited. Sometimes I wish I drove a tow truck. I wonder if some of the cars are abandoned for there to be so many. Are most of them still on the back side of the lot?

The problem with that truck stop right now is that the flying J on the other side of the road has been shut down ever since Kentucky had those floods. It basically doubles the parking need at that exit and everyone diverts to the pilot. It’s usually not too full before late hours but now it’s just too full every night. They need to drain the parking lot of the flying J and fix it.

I saw the one was closed, but didn’t know why. Is the lot not draining? I saw one post about it being flooded. This is actually the one that is the next exit south. There were two at US-41, and this one just SE at KY115. Regardless, there was a ton of empty car parking, but yes, truck parking is a disaster in the area now.

I was in a situation where I was pulling a mini 4x8 teardrop behind a sedan, and enforcement wouldn't allow me on the car side of a rest stop.... I had to park "on the trailer side" I felt dumb af little 3,200# dink next to the 80,000# semis.

If I’m out of hours I don’t care, I’m parking along the curb and someone will move between 5 am and 6 am so if I can roll into a spot at 2-3 mph my ELD doesn’t say I’m driving so unless someone is watching who cares it looks like I was parked legally the whole time come 7 am and I can finish my break.

I’ve done that plenty of times. Don’t do that in New Jersey or Chicago because they’ll tow your truck, they don’t care, but if it’s like rural Ohio or something park along the curb when there’s no parking spot and then when people leave roll (slowly) into a parking space to get out of everyone else’s way. I don’t recommend staying along the curb all morning if you park at 2 am and you do a full 10 hour break but at 2 am very few people will complain. Someone will leave by 5 am and that will give you a legal place to park.
