Noctua's futuristic thermosiphon cooler is back and bigger than ever at Computex 2025, but still no closer to release

give it a few years and we'll be back to submerging the whole pc in novec again
Antique_Surprise_763@reddit
They stopped making Novec but there are generic alternatives. Who submerged the pc in it?
got-trunks@reddit
This isn't it? https://www.3mcanada.ca/3M/en_CA/p/c/b/novec/
Aurailious@reddit
Maybe 3M will still make it in Canada or they can still in the US because no more laws? But they stopped because it's a PFAS and was supposed to be banned.
Antique_Surprise_763@reddit
This was novec 1230. They pulled it because their patten ran out. But the new alternatives are just as good
got-trunks@reddit
I mean most of the DCs I've worked in still use Halon, maybe enforcement and change control just makes phase-out last a generation
Exist50@reddit
For fire suppression, no? I'd assume that's more lenient and/or a slower phase-out than coolants.
got-trunks@reddit
Still funny as hell to have to learn where the breath masks exist
Antique_Surprise_763@reddit
I had no idea how many there were. I guess its just the specific formular that I use was pulled
got-trunks@reddit
If there is a synthesis of a chemical, someone somewhere is mass producing it just in case.

TEC next

Dumb question, but would a low power ultrasonic buzzer mitigate the boiling crisis issue? You'd be continually knocking the bubbles off.
heymikeyp@reddit
Prediction: Thermalright will release their own 5-10 years before Noctua.
Cory123125@reddit
And when noctua releases theirs, it'll be 2.5x the price, for 2% better performance.
FollowingFeisty5321@reddit
And dogshit-brown unless you pay 20% more for black.
reddit_equals_censor@reddit
i wouldn't be surprised if thermalright is already working on it. instead of 3 new products a month, that the factory has to pump out or whatever, it could be 2+ thermosiphon prototyping instead.
also icegiant titan 360 cooler should release this year already, which if the performance is there certainly could ignite more than just noctua working on it.
heymikeyp@reddit
I used to be a Noctua fan myself and still believe they make the most reliable products. But I can't defend their price points and lack of innovation. I'm mostly salty about their fake roadmaps that rarely pan out. Like don't do a roadmap if you never stick with it like come on. Also there's no reason a different color to a product should take years to come out, that's just silly.
reddit_equals_censor@reddit
i wouldn't call that a bad thing, as i am interested in knowing the targets to release products,
but as noctua themselves pointed out, it is bad marketing as delays come in and delays can take ages.
so for marketing reasons one can say "they over shared".
crucial to understand here however is, that it was NOT, because noctua didn't wanna release the hardware on time, but they HAD to delay it.
noctua can't release broken products, that fail over time or that don't meet performance targets.
so they just shared their internal roadmap parts here. again i like it, but it is bad for marketing reasons as you for example certainly didn't. and they changed that now as well as it was bad for marketing reasons.
in comparison to this. the switch 2 was ready 2 years ago, but they delayed it by 2 years it seems.
the die was read ages ago, which had even nvidia employees confused af, because they die was done AGES AGO and they didn't release anything FOR YEARS. now THAT you can be angry at.
however of course the evil lawsuits thrown at indie developers and the war at game preservation is what you should mostly be mad at nintendo for.
but yeah understand the difference.
yip i can't defend the prices either.
the noctua nh-d14 for the time being was INCREDIBLE value and the performance leader. sth worth remembering.
in regards to general innovation i guess fans are quite boring and take ages to improve a bit and air coolers are hard to improve.
however we should point out here, that noctua RIGHTFULLY looked at the one technology, that can innovate cpu cooling, which is flexible metal tubes thermosiphon coolers.
so they have the right focus on what to innovate on, but what you could point out easily here, that noctua should have started to work on this YEARS AGO.
icegiant should be releasing their version this year and they are a company of like 3 main people if i remember right....
but hey this will again take years we can expect i guess.
so yeah there is innovation, but it takes ages i'd say, but the prices are absurd without question.
Jeep-Eep@reddit
Also, there's whoever Weiland licensees their design to, which could be a lot of people.
IF blacknoise fancied a ballyhooed return to prominence, well, the eLoop X is no slouch as as a rad fan I'm told, and it would be a natural match for that tech.
vegetable__lasagne@reddit
3 Noctua fans already cost as much as some AIOs, so will this cost like $200+?
poopyface-tomatonose@reddit
Noctua's upcoming regular AIO is going to be around $300, according to Wccftech, so I would guess this would be much, much more.
https://wccftech.com/noctua-aio-liquid-cooler-built-asetek-g8-v2-thermosiphon-update-new-coolers-fans-antec-chassis-seasonic-psu
Thaeus@reddit
For that amount of money you can almost do custom watercooling, wtf
Positive-Bonus5303@reddit
you can at the very least build a custom aio at that price point that will vastly outperform it (assuming you have the extra space for the thicker radiator, as they will likely opt for something slim for max compatibility)
steinfg@reddit
huh? just 200? That's a $400+ product easily.
Zenith251@reddit
Oh, easily, and you already knew that. Why play coy?
705nce@reddit
Dear god if it makes it to market please leave the window.

Thank you for not linking to imgur, you’re an actual legend for that
scielliht987@reddit
Well, um, it's just the actual image in the link.
got-trunks@reddit
Well now they have to
kikimaru024@reddit
TBH if (big IF) it releases, I expect it will only be for HEDT.
kodos_der_henker@reddit
So the current problem why this isn't out anytime soon is that different CPUs have not just different hotspots but generate different heat. Hence it works on a 9800x3d but not so much on an i3 or i5.
As their overall goal is to be silent (no pump noise) and remove the as many potential points for hardware failure as possible it will have its niche
Well, I guess my current cooler is going to last long enough for this to be out
katt2002@reddit
While I'd buy one just to be able to stare at the window all day long but even without pump I doubt it'll be silent when it's bubbling like that.
Berengal@reddit
GN did a video on it and no, there wasn't any sound. You could barely hear it if you put your ear up to it, but that was it.
kikimaru024@reddit
TBH if (big IF) it releases, I expect it will only be for HEDT.
Purely because then they can guarantee where the hotspots are.
UsedAddendum8442@reddit
Next step will be to replace water with freon.
railagent69@reddit
Boiling crisis is such a cool term
Equivalent-Bet-8771@reddit
Release the Thermosiphon you cowards!
BbyJ39@reddit
Without any performance data, what’s the point? Show us your product which may come out after we retire and provide zero info on it. Gj Noctua.
jaskij@reddit
There was actually a fair amount of info in GN coverage.
The performance target is to be on par with the same size AIO. The main selling point being the lack of pump.
As for how close they are: they reach the target on an even load hotplate, but CPU hotspots are a bit of a challenge, leaving some stuff to close to failure for comfort.
Exist50@reddit
Even if the idea is fundamentally sound, Noctua have a history of these kind of demos that have ultimately gone nowhere.
imaginary_num6er@reddit
Yeah where’s the white NF-A12x25 fans?
Exist50@reddit
Yup. Or the active noise cancelling fans, or the copper-diamond composite cold plate. As I said, Noctua has a history with these kind of things. No point giving it much weight until they hit the market.
