One of those things that was actually really interesting at the start and got ruined by overly dramatic reddit types who made it their entire personality.
The few SCP's that were in the first videogame (so 2012?) were pretty cool concepts. Also the Foundation was mysterious and powerful which created cohesion and explanatory background for the story universe. Then everything got retconned to shit and the later SCPs became invincible - as if they were written by kids - and the Foundation was made too goofy for anything to make sense.
Yup. Like a year ago I went onto the forum for doing the process on getting an SCP on the site using some old concepts I wrote. One of which was a plate that makes a ghost guy appear and eat what's on the plate and tell you about it like some wine taster or something. They said it wouldn't cut it because it lacked 'muh greater narrative'
Anything after the 3rd Series likely is just an overcomplicated wall of text that isn't worth reading, there seems like a massive drop off in quality once the number is higher than 2000, absolutely 3000
Consider a world where everyone knows about the masquerade, knows someone who was a victim of probable vampire attack, can look up footage of actual vampires showing off on the internet, etc.
The masquerade is still real because no media outlet and nobody with any degree of power will acknowledge it as anything other than a hoax or a rumor. The vampires have complete control of anyone with a media outlet or political office, and can keep pushing a transparently false version of reality as if to say "well, what the fuck are you going to do about it?"
You can talk about vampires in the shadowban ghetto, and sometimes your videos will even stay up for a few hours, but if you actually threaten real players in the masquerade, you get federal charges shoved up your ass like Doug Mackey.
At least half of the people you meet will quietly acknowledge that humans aren't the top of the food chain, and the other half will shriek in outrage (but also download that app that notifies you if you're in an area that "experiences a high rate of unexplained disappearances"), until it gets removed from the app store for inconveniencing the 'people' in charge.
Frankly it's more horrifying than a world where the monsters feel like they have to hide.
I think that's why VTMB especially doesn't work well set in the modern day, and it's more fun to play back in the early 2000s. Not only do you avoid having to use the social justice vampires white wolf thought would be a good addition to the game (Seriously, like a group called "Rudi's army" run by a muslim vampire who takes in "oppressed" vampires like a trans vampire who has to bottom surgery themselves every day because they heal overnight, and they use their vampire powers to kill anyone right wing.) You avoid everyone having phones and security cameras being absolutely everywhere, so you can be more liberal with using your vampire powers, AKA the reason you're actually playing the game. We tried doing one in modern day and we spent more time chasing humans to smash their phones and having to sneak into security rooms first to disconnect them from cloud backups that it just wasn't fun. Could just be that the prewritten adventures they give out now are just dogshit compared to the old ones though.
This is true and it gets really bad as power creep and just general size creep becomes an issue. SCP Foundation stuff is at it's best when it's more grounded, exploring creepy buildings and fighting monsters, not dealing with literal gods and bullshit.
SCP was pretty cool, I got into it a few hears ago then stopped because things got played out. I think Here Be Dragons was released around the time I lost interest. I feel like when people tried to do the same thing with the backrooms it was even worse.
From what I saw with that they did a lot of stupid things. They definitely didn't do anything creative with the format of documenting an anomaly since they were all basically "what if this level of the back rooms the floor is flooded and there's sea creatures." I did also see a number of people use real missing persons cases as basis for a story which I think is deplorable given the context. Plus there were all these little details they added in for the sake of having a quirky little tid bit that did nothing to set the horror tone, stuff like the base level had people living off of almond water for some reason.
I do feel like all the current horror subcultures have been played out. It's very obvious with the back rooms but I do like the Kane Pixels guy, very talented. I feel like I could talk for a few hours about how much I hate liminal horror now and the culture surrounding it. Random pictures of hotel rooms will never be creepy.
No it was definitely that one. Here be Dragons with the spray painted box, the origami dragons, and the stuff about them trying to contact the humans. The only other dragon related SCP thing I know are Dr Wondertainment's dragon snails.
I mean, the world is pretty big. You can fit containment facilities for a few thousand of them. It's just a creative writing exercise at the end of the day, and some of them are really cool concepts

Yeah, the website and writers moved away from the format of “weird thing that does weird thing” because that shit got stale af

You’re being downvoted for thinking anyone gives a fuck about the backrooms.

You literally like star wars. I dont want to hear nothing from you nerd.

There is literally zero lore of the backrooms except the first image, everything else was children on TikTok adding their new super secret scary room

it can be there's another one called that or related to dragons that you are thinking of. but the original paper dragons was written in 2014

Yeah, the concept of SCP secrecy made sense when there was like 800 of them in the whole world. Less so with 6000.
Also, why would a shadowy goverment organization that kills people have a pride flag on their website for fuck's sake?

I'm also worried about the guy schizo-posting about 'vampires' controlling the world. That's a school/workplace shooter waiting to happen.
