Did you get a turn to run the filmstrip projector?

I love how De La Soul spoofed this on their second album.

In elementary, no one got turns. I was designated as THE one who ran the filmstrip and 16 mil projectors. I trained my replacement at the end of the year. Coincidentally, as a jr lieutenant, I ran the huge auditorium with a very complex, expensive media setup with multiple screens and sources because I was responsible for the pre-checking the financial data in the submitted content, too. Quarterly we'd have colonel to general and SES ranks from wright patt and pentagon and white house staffers. Being rebel genx I once put on one slide in tiny unreadable print "Help! I'm being held prisoner in the projector room". My commander could have only caught it if he were tabbing thru the text boxes on PC and increased the font. Got one of those "I shouldn't be smiling when I'm disciplining you" lessons. He knew I liked that part of my job and had automated Stoplight PP chart creation from my excel templates which eliminated the tons of errors from submitters like "Why is this green when program execution is at 50%? That's red." me PowerPoint Warrior and slide turner

I was a classroom teacher for a number of years and had access to old technology: laserdiscs to accompany the textbook series and an overhead projector. One day we noticed a spider had crawled inside the projector. We gave up the lesson and instead talked about the spider instead.

I’m laughing at laser discs being old technology, did you have access to mimeograph machine? Nothing like sniffing a newly printed pop quiz, bonus if your teacher did the pass back to the row and you had the front.

Yes, the mimeo was definitely down in the teacher's room. There was a wide range if teaching tech available in that little district. I was there in 2002.

And books with records.

Yup, and every now and then... we'd get the fancy new filmstrip projector with the tape instead of the record... and it would *automatically* advance with the beep.

Yes. Every one wanted to. And you bet your sweet ass we didn’t know the topic of the film cause we were gonna jump Bryan’s shit if he didn’t flip it in 1000th of a second. We should have been picked.
