IBM PS/2 P70

This has been on my list for a while to get - finally got the chance. This display is incredible. Cant wait to put it through its paces. Needs some work. Definitely a good clean. Also the hard drive seems to be working but the DOS install appears to be corrupted. Cant boot off a floppy because the floppy drive also doesn’t work (like most PS/2s). So there will be an attempt at floppy recap in the future. Still though, excited to finally have one of these.

Might put that on if I can solve the floppy drive issue and reinstall dos and/or reformat the HD

There are about 5 bad caps in the floppy drive. Had to recap mine and it worked fine afterwards.

Our department in IBM shared one of these. I installed OS/2 2.0 on it.

I've had one of these. The keyboard is phenomenal. I even made an adapter to use it on my desktop. It is an ordinary ps/2 keyboard with special plug.

Anyone know can I drop in a 80487 in the 387 socket to use it as a 486 upgrade? It’s a 20mhz DX386

I think it can only use a 80387. The 486 included floating point instructions (except for the 486sx). Intel may have made a 80487sx to use with the 486sx.

Mmmmm gas plasma. Impressive that the display held up so long! Fortunately replacing storage devices isn't as difficult as it once was, though this proprietary floppy could be a challenge.

That’s a good deal if it’s working. I paid $250 for it plus a 14” PS/2 monitor which I thought was a good deal

When I was a kid, this was the ultimate luggable of gas plasma luggable. Absolutely loved the flip down, top-loading floppy, and the whole Stanley Kubrick 2001 industrial design language of these machines. At the time, it totally looked like the future, even if it wasn't.

I have one of these fully restored minus the left shift key. I really hope the floppy is just dirty and a good cleaning brings it back. The floppy drive for these are proprietary and impossible to find in the wild. They are great units. Good luck with it

I have one of these laying around, and the install on it also seems to be corrupt. I got mine as payment for fixing a computer.
