Who else got a Reddit warning for upvoting the Repo Man movie poster post in r/GenX?

What in the wide wide world of sports is going on here?!?
freddbare@reddit
This direction is not the world we should want. Remember this nonsensical ban hammer
Tavenji@reddit
Just smile, nod, and prostrate yourself before out Robot Overlords.
All hail the Algorithm.
RattledMind@reddit
Reddit has implemented something called Anti-Evil Organization (AEO) that basically goes through posts and removes them. People will see “Removed by Reddit” on those.
They also started watching what’s been upvoted and if people upvote something the Reddit AI has deemed offensive, they can ban you from Reddit.
It’s an absolute nuisance. Enough that other mods have developed an “admin tattler” that tells us when Reddit Admins remove something.
It’s been brought up to the Reddit Admins, unfortunately that’s plagued with some Admins playing favourites with certain mods.
mossryder@reddit
How very 2025 of them.
RootHogOrDieTrying@reddit
Crap like this will drive traffic away from Reddit. They hurting themselves with this AI laziness.
meowbird@reddit
digg is coming back, no kidding
Dude_PK@reddit
Don't forget FARK
Jazzspasm@reddit
Oh hey - FARK was great fun - I swung by there the other day after years, and it’s still up and running
Dude_PK@reddit
I think the guy's name is Drew that runs/ran it and dude used to go all over the world and drink beer with people lol
Jazzspasm@reddit
Ayyy that’s the name - he’d get mentioned in some of the news link titles as probably guilty of whatever terrible occurrences the news story was about
Dude_PK@reddit
Whaa?
Jazzspasm@reddit
Occasionally the headlines posters would make when linking articles on fark, they’d add Drew’s name in context
“Chaos erupts at Nevada whorehouse when snake escapes customer’s locker - Drew unavailable for comment”
Something like that

This and restriction of 3rd party API so they could force us to the native app and be fed an ad every 6 posts, or at the top of every comment section, or midway through the comments.. fuck this shit.
HarpersGhost@reddit
Oh the API thing was so they could sell the content for AI LLM "learning". They're getting $60m/year for OUR content.
That's a lot more than they were charging for apis.

KiloJools@reddit
It sucks SO MUCH. It's so frustrating!

I've never used the official app, only Firefox for Android, with ublock.
Comfortable-Dog-8437@reddit
100%. Its what turned facebook into a flaming pile.
GreenZebra23@reddit
It's what they want. They don't want the peasants talking to each other, stirring up the passions against the ruling class. They want us sitting here passively scrolling carefully cultivated propaganda created and posted by AI
polyblackcat@reddit
All the folks commenting here are describing the exact same type of thing that Facebook bots do. It's crazy.
All these bots need to die.
Oh dear I'm probably in trouble again now.
Oh well.
Sharticus123@reddit
And exactly why I left Facebook.
ihatewinter204@reddit

My fav is the mod that reads through your OTHER posts, and tries to find something in their forum to mod you for, then psychoanalyzes you (for a three word post/question). he must have found a post that seemed slightly right of center---strictly verboten
PossibleAlienFrom@reddit
Remember when Digg fell? The irony is a co-founder of Reddit is trying to bring it back.
jroc_666@reddit
Yup seems like they don’t want to make money at this point.
Tangboy50000@reddit
I got a 3 day suspension for “threatening violence” talking about towing a car illegally parked in someone’s driveway. The appeal is an absolute joke, because it goes nowhere.
eyeballburger@reddit
Unfortunately, there’s enough traffic that it will not really affect their activities. It’s just like movies or video games; they’ll pander to the broadest audience as opposed to making something that will rock the boat.
ringobob@reddit
it'll chase off the highest quality content first. eventually, it'll all just be bots.
parallaxdecision@reddit
We're pretty close already.

GozerDestructor@reddit
"Anti-Evil"? That's fucking Orwellian.
TakkataMSF@reddit
If you don't support Anti-Evil, you support evil and will be banned.
If you do support Anti-Evil we'll be totally suspicious because only someone trying to prove they aren't evil would need to support anti-evil.
Make your choice.

The new AI moderation is bonkers and, anecdotally, I can tell you it’s having a real chilling effect on my commenting and driving down my engagement with the site. Not only is the AI poorly implemented, but the employees who review appeals from the AI system seem to act as little more than a rubber stamp. Very frustrating and a real shame to see things getting worse every day.
massiveattach@reddit
yep, it'll be all bots here soon enough. I comment less than I did before
Viola-Swamp@reddit
I don’t think anyone reviews anything unless there is a complaint. That’s a problem, when you rely on nanny software to make nuanced decisions when it isn’t capable of nuance.
RaygunMarksman@reddit
I've been flagged and temp banned like four times in the last six months for one accusation or another of violence (that ends up being a misunderstanding). It has made me second guess myself about dropping certain popular quotes or titles which is pretty dopey.
Poops-iFarted@reddit
Don't worry, they'll just pump in more bots like Facebook.
Mondschatten78@reddit
Explains why someone in one of the horse subreddits had a comment removed. They commented with their relevant experience and how they handled the re-training, and reddit removed it for threatening violence.
new2bay@reddit
I’ve seen comments on dog subs about what to do about ticks getting removed for inciting violence.

huntress_m_thompson@reddit
me, too. but i upvoted both of you. gulp
scarybottom@reddit
Meh- if they ban me my mental will likely improve and Ill read more real books...win win ;)
Viola-Swamp@reddit
I h e noticed the more Reddit I consume, the worse I feel. I’m more annoyed and unhappy. I can’t decide if it’s anything to do with the site or of it’s just experiencing so many ignorant people.
new2bay@reddit
I used to never block anyone on here. But, then I realized: Reddit got more pleasant when I started blocking people. My guess is it’s the combination of terminal ignorance and the state of the world today that’s doing it for you.
Orion-Starborn@reddit
you know The Man monitors your books and reading habits, right? Only "State Approved" books will be allowed. 🙄
scarybottom@reddit
IDK...Can't monitor what I trade with my friends, buy for cash, etc ;). That may be coming- I am starting a banned books "mini" library in my home!
otter_mayhem@reddit
I'd read more books and probably put a good dent in my watchlist. Lord knows I spend way too much time on here. And I'm not going to be banned because of some stupid AI overlord.
huntress_m_thompson@reddit
😂 totally LOL’ing, because between this, youtube, & twitter, & me being throttled, shadowbanned, posts deleted, i feel the exact same way. it would only free up a lot of time & enrich me. & it may yet be that way.
luniz420@reddit
Scared of getting banned from reddit? Let's be honest if it wasn't for the fact that social media destroyed independent websites we'd all be much, much better without it.

Yeah I’ve been stalked by this bullshit. I actually received a permanent ban for quoting a movie line or something else along those lines. I appealed it and it was revoked almost immediately, but my secondary (read: nsfw account) is still banned despite not using for anything other than, y’know…
M0BBER@reddit

Viola-Swamp@reddit
It’s really too bad that there isn’t something like the Organization for Transformative Works, aka the nonprofit behind fanworks site Archive of Our Own, for community interaction in general. A nonprofit-run Redditesque site by netizens for netizens would be fantastic.
Viola-Swamp@reddit
Some subs have terrible moderation. The complaint process is not straightforward either. I was banned from a sub because a mod disagreed with my opinion in a thread. People like that have no business representing a business, and Reddit should have a better process in place to protect their brand. I understand the use of AI to stay on top of threats and violence, and any new thing takes time to work out the kinks. Still, this seems unusually clumsy and ham-handed of them.
AirlockBob77@reddit
Ironic that Reddit is generally (and on the surface) anti-censorship and anti-dictatorship but they have absolutely no problem in implementing an ideological line that NEEDS to be adhered to , or else....

nearly_enough_wine@reddit
It has mucho trouble dealing with the Australian attitude towards casual profanity and self-deprecation (and I'd be surprised if GenXers were that different!) - which is where I often have to advise users to elevate their appeals.
kpetrie77@reddit
In my opinion, the devs made the AEO algorithm by taking the navy seal copy pasta automod rule and made hit for any word in it instead of every word.
IcebergSlimFast@reddit
“Gorilla warfare”? Believe it or not, jail.
freya_kahlo@reddit
Yeah, I’m almost perma-banned, and should be according to Reddit. The new system is full of false positives and if you appeal it, a human basically says “you’re keeping the violation for not reason other than you annoyed me.”

Yeah I got banned for a week threatening violence for giving someone self defense advice in a thread where they were asking for self defense advice. And then got a permanent ban for threatening violence by making a masturbation joke in a thread asking how to get rid of an erection. Luckily my appeal was approved. They’ve definitely added something to make it more sensitive

I received a sitewide permaban for inciting violence. Someone in a main sub posted a gif from the Blues Brothers with the quote “We’re 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack or cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses”
I gave the correct response. “Hit it.”
That’s it. That was my supposed incitement of violence. Some twatwaffle reported me for that.
I appealed it, and it was removed.
Knitsanity@reddit
Last month I got a 3 day ban for joking to someone who was being a good neighbor that if he was my neighbour I would bake for him so much I would bake him into an early ...the g word that got me banned.
I was genuinely bemused by that one. The auto mods have no nuance.
CaligoAccedito@reddit
I got a sitewide 3-day ban for talking about the historical solution to repel fascism.

Sudden-Motor-7794@reddit
I got a similar ban for the bagel stabilization hole with a person sticking their finger in the middle. Heh.
kcpirana@reddit
I got a 30-day from FB for referring to someone as a “humourless potato.”
They reported my comment, thereby proving my point.
8675309-jennie@reddit
I got a 3 day ban for “potato. potato.”
It was a post about waiting until the last minute to shop for something.

Lanky_Republic_2102@reddit
Yes, I have also appealed and been reinstated.
Viola-Swamp@reddit
raises hand I’m in the club too. The notice stated that AI had flagged my comment for threatening violence, which is not what I did. I bet they recently implemented new monitoring software, and it’s a nightmare behind the scenes.

Jazzspasm@reddit
Wait - you appealed your site wide ban, and someone responded, let alone you got the ban removed?
I got a site wide ban for saying Boomers vote and young people don’t so Boomers, and that was enough for a threat of violence resulting ban - no response to appeal
DarkIllusionsMasks@reddit
I got a sitewide ban for quoting Churchill. Someone posted a link to the article where Bono says America will do the right thing," to which I replied, "after we've tried everything else." BAM! Banned for threatening violence.

I’m on the mod support subreddit, because I’m a mod of r/coins. We’ve been hearing a lot about these types of bans. I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is that, most likely, no twatwaffles were involved here. The bad news is that these bans are automated, and the bot is really dumb, and doesn’t take any context into account.
I don’t know what the appeal success rate on these types of bans is, but, anecdotally, it seems rather high. That’s actually bad, because it means people are getting banned wrongly a lot of the time. These appeals are really hard to write, too, because they replaced the content with [ Removed by Reddit ]. Unless you happen to remember what exactly you wrote, or, as you likely did, can figure it out from context, the best appeal you can write is the equivalent of “nuh uh, I didn’t do it.”
I complain about both of these things at every opportunity, but nothing ever gets done about it.

mtwstr@reddit
How are you guys winning appeals? They said I was promoting violence by saying someone hasn’t served their life sentence if they can be revived, and even when I pointed out that it has nothing to do with violence at all the appeal lost.

I think that was my comment! Thats wild, man
Active_Wafer9132@reddit
You're the one who quoted Bono? I think you replied to the wrong user so it took me a minute to understand. If you are, that's really crazy that you and Churchill reunited here!
Shouty_Dibnah@reddit
I’ve been banned for inciting violence. Because I was.
Viola-Swamp@reddit
It’s not someone reporting it. Reddit uses AI to monitor the site for genuine violence, and it flags innocuous content all the time. A few weeks ago I said someone in the medical field should be drawn and quartered, and received a permaban for threatening violence. Of course it was immediately revoked when I appealed, but it was annoying. AI is a useful tool, but it’s got no subtlety or discernment.
burndata@reddit
I had to successfully appeal a permanent ban as well, just days ago. After multiple BS temp bans with unsuccessful appeals. 8 years, no issues, then suddenly in the last month, getting banned for posts that were no threats to anyone.
Cheese-Manipulator@reddit
Wow. I'm betting it wasn't a person but an AI bot. The reddit staff must be dealing with hundreds of false hits every day.

I got a 3 day ban recently because I posted something in my local sub. Said it violated laws asking about something illegal. I was asking about synthetic urine in local weed shops. None of which, by the way, is illegal. I had to appeal it and tell them "Synthetic urine is sold on Amazon ffs. Weed isn't illegal here and weed shops are very legal". It was removed but, why the fuck was it ever put on?
flyart@reddit
What's hilarious to me is that an upvote in this sub got noticed. Nobody here upvotes anything, which is fine. 300k users and you rarely see upvotes over 50.

MicksAwake@reddit
This is true of all of Reddit, generally speaking. An average post in an average sub will get about 1 upvote per 100 views so a post with 50 upvotes has probably had around 5k views.
fcewen00@reddit
These things never surprise me. My cousin received a bullying warning concerning her son. She had bullied her son. She called him stinky.

Migamix@reddit
I got a ban for wishing the demise of stinging caterpillars in my region. what's happening is they are relying on "AI" tools that only see keywords, and not one bit of context, it takes human logical intervention to get unbanned.
Karrion8@reddit
I got flagged for suggesting a paintball should be used for people fucking out in the open at the park.
new2bay@reddit
That is actually a valid strike. People can get seriously hurt by paintballs, if they’re not wearing protective equipment. I’ve seen people get bruises, even when wearing the right gear.
Karrion8@reddit
It might be if it were in any way serious.
new2bay@reddit
Nobody can tell if you’re serious or not in a text-based medium. Still a legit ding.
Karrion8@reddit
Riiiiight. Because patrolling parks with a paintball gun is a reasonable thing.
new2bay@reddit
Doesn’t matter if it’s reasonable or not. You may not be one of them, but there are unhinged people on the internet who might do such a thing. Without further context, it’s still a legitimate mod action.
Karrion8@reddit
If you can't see the problem, I pity you.
new2bay@reddit
If you can’t see the problem, you will be banned for violence, at some point. I’m giving you the perspective of a Reddit mod. You can either learn and adapt, or you’ll lose your account. It’s your choice.
Karrion8@reddit
The problem is that this seems reasonable to you. Think about it. Banned for violence? Really? For words that are not threatening or provoking anyone?
new2bay@reddit
I’m telling you what I’d do, as a mod, to protect my sub, given the way Reddit’s AI bot has gone off the rails. There is nothing reasonable about this situation.
That said, as I mentioned, there are unhinged people on the internet who might read such a comment and think it’s a good idea. Reddit doesn’t like that. Keep posting what Reddit doesn’t like, and they’ll stop letting you post at all.
Karrion8@reddit
What? You first said that it was a legit flag and then you agree that it's unreasonable?
I understand that my account could be banned. My point is that it is ridiculous. I am not responsible nor should I be held accountable for the insane actions of insane people. What if I mention "summoning Cthulhu" as a joke and someone decides that's a good idea? Who knows how they might attempt to do that, but it probably won't be good.
It's a ridiculous premise that absurd things can't be said because insane people might think it's a good idea. I agree that threatening violence against a person or group of people and/or provoking a person or group of people should probably be flagged and removed. But those should be very clear and direct threats against a specific person or group of people.
This also means that mods shouldn't try to interpret or divine a person's motivations behind a comment and any comment should be given the most generous interpretation unless other context dictates otherwise.
By agreeing that the flag was legit you are legitimizing their terrible position.
new2bay@reddit
I’m telling you what I’d do, as a mod, to protect my sub, given the way Reddit’s AI bot has gone off the rails. There is nothing reasonable about this situation.

IcebergSlimFast@reddit
“You eat a lot of acid, Miller, back in the hippy days?”
tuttyeffinfruity@reddit
🤣 I love Miller. I do that “feelin’ 7-up” scene all too often too. I think I saw this movie 3x in the theater and captured its magic on Betamax so I watched it a lot. I also tell my dog “excuse me while I fold my pants” too often. If I could just remember useful information the same way, I’d be dangerous.
erilaz7@reddit
A coworker and I occasionally fling quotes from Repo Man back and forth. We often gravitate toward the old British woman. "You pick it up! You know yourself you were wrong." "That's not the middle of the street, that's the coooh-naah."
tuttyeffinfruity@reddit
🤣 fun to find others in the wild who do this. My mom & I also do, “Let’s go do some crimes… yeah, let’s get sushi. And not pay.” If I had a time capsule, this film would definitely go in there.
I hate I didn’t see the post that got everyone a ban. I’d have taken that one too.
IcebergSlimFast@reddit
One of my best friends had it on tape when I was in High school (mid-80s). I’ve watched it waaaay too many times. Truly a GenX classic.
tuttyeffinfruity@reddit
And the soundtrack. The soundtrack! 5 pound blocks of cheese… the whole thing is a masterpiece and it’s fun to find others who were affected the same way. We all weren’t so alone, we just didn’t know it!
Argon_Boix@reddit
Still own the vinyl.
tuttyeffinfruity@reddit
I wish I did. 🫣🫤
splunge4me2@reddit (OP)
Turns out it was the comment I made which was a quote from the movie: “Let’s go do some cr!mes!” But I spelled it correctly, of course.
theDagman@reddit
Thank goodness they didn't look in the trunk. You might have gotten a permanent ban.
"Oh, you don't want to look in there."
Medical-Direction-75@reddit
Let’s get sushi and not pay
TheRepoCode@reddit
Just for that, you're out of the gang
Argon_Boix@reddit
I blame…society..gurgle.
MoonageDayscream@reddit
Oh shit, that isn't even violence. It's just not paying for sushi.

splunge4me2@reddit (OP)
Nothing. Just bizarre
VinylHighway@reddit
It was threatening violence! Against...someone!
melatonia@reddit
It looks like you got a warning for a post/comment, not for a vote.
VinylHighway@reddit
Reddit moderation is insane. Once I was banned over a claim, I asked what post? What did I say? They won't tell me. They have minimal due process, but file the appeal, I've won many of them.
Someone once tried to ban me for threatening violence when I said Batman (a fictional character) should beat them up. It was overturned.
BubbaChanel@reddit
I got banned from a sub for just being a member of another sub!
VinylHighway@reddit
I’ve seen that happen with some subs. Who is going around checking what’s subs you’re subscribed to??
westcoastcdn19@reddit
The warning OP got is from admins, not mods.
If anyone seeing this happens to get one of these warnings, you have to file an appeal on a desktop browser, won't work on mobile
pit_of_despair666@reddit
I was able to do it on mobile when I got a 3-day ban from an automod.
VinylHighway@reddit
Thank you. Pretty much the same comments apply.
splunge4me2@reddit (OP)
I filed an appeal already. Whole thing is just silly
PatPatNo@reddit
I got banned from a subreddit for posting and deleting. I was trying to post a video with sound and the sound didn’t work. I tried a few more times before giving up. I explained what happened and the mod wasn’t hearing it and threatened that if I continued the conversation, he would permanently ban me from reddit entirely.
new2bay@reddit
A subreddit mod can’t ban you from Reddit at all, much less permanently.
VinylHighway@reddit
That’s my favorite one. If you try and defend yourself they mute and or block you permanently
flyingwithgravity@reddit
I had a mod say they wouldn't take the time to read my well thought out, four paragraph rebuttal to a ban saying , " One sentence response only"
I was then muted, so my twenty line, comically long, run-on sentence rebuttal was never received :(
Fuck that mod
Cheese-Manipulator@reddit
Trash mods. They don't get held accountable though because reddit needs their slave labor.
domesticatedprimate@reddit
I got banned from r/atheism for reacting with very mild sarcasm to some guy who was openly insulting me and trying his best to goad me into a flame war. Insults are OK but sarcasm is the worst possible sin, apparently. I think it's because a large percent of the subscribers and mods are on the spectrum and they don't understand sarcasm, so it's become a permaban offense.
ktappe@reddit
Yes, I just recently got banned from that sub also. The mods there are completely illogical.
VinylHighway@reddit
I’m an atheist and somehow got banned too
domesticatedprimate@reddit
It was funny because all I'd said was that I didn't automatically hate anyone who claimed to believe in religion, that religion wasn't always 100% bad automatically, and this one guy (clearly on the spectrum) took that to it's illogical conclusion that therefore I promoted genocide. I thought that was just too ridiculous to argue with, so I allowed a bit of sarcasm to creep into my reply. Unfortunately, sarcasm is prohibited in the sub's sidebar. Oh well.
VinylHighway@reddit
I think I said it’s possible historical Jesus existed (but not magic Jesus )
domesticatedprimate@reddit
Yikes. That's worse than some fundamentalist religious subreddit.
RogerClyneIsAGod2@reddit
I love that they take down your post so you can't even tell what was removed so you know not to do it again.
ktappe@reddit
Exactly this. I’ve gotten several bans recently and and in every case, they wouldn’t tell me what post it was and what specifically about the post was wrong. I think Reddit mods are what happen when our education system declines. People aren’t able to use logic.
Cheese-Manipulator@reddit
Yes! "You did something wrong." Ok, what did I do so I won't repeat it? "We won't tell you."
VinylHighway@reddit
My dream is to run into someone who works at Reddit so I can unload on them ;)
Next-Cut-2996@reddit
Hahaha yesterday I posted in a cat sub about a stray that we were taking in. It was sweet with a picture attached… I was banned for threatening violence 😆😆 Overturned but I was cracking up… over a cat.
Test4Echooo@reddit
Did they misunderstand the title? What could’ve possibly been wrong with that?
phairphair@reddit
“Little girl”
Next-Cut-2996@reddit
I’m sorry. I apologize… I’m normally a dog person, and this cat wandered in, and she seemed like a little girl to me. (The vet confirmed she is in fact, a girl 😆). But I haven’t posted in here before her, so if little girl is annoying i apologize and take note 😊
phairphair@reddit
I have no issue with it whatsoever, I’m just saying that the site’s bot likely flagged the post for this phrase and automatically removed it in an abundance of caution.
Next-Cut-2996@reddit
Oh!!! Omg I hadn’t even thought of that. JFC we really can’t say anything anymore, can we? 😆 Thank you!
Next-Cut-2996@reddit
Nope! This is the whole post lol.
IcebergSlimFast@reddit
Clearly the cat is threatening violence if someone doesn’t feed her soon.
Next-Cut-2996@reddit
Trust me, chica has been well fed 😆 Confirmed: my husband and I are now loyal servants.
Cheese-Manipulator@reddit
YOU MONSTER!
Happy_Confection90@reddit
WTF. At least when I had to get a 1-day suspension at Twitter overturned a few years ago, it was because their algorithm didn't understand that Maine Coon as a phrase is a cat breed, not the old timey racist slur it must have been flagged for. I can't see how anything got you flagged.
Test4Echooo@reddit
I don’t understand this place anymore😆
Next-Cut-2996@reddit

It was the profanity. They banned me for the profanity.

Cheese-Manipulator@reddit
They delete the comment so you can't even see it. Maybe I want to learn how to reword things nicely? Nope. Dumb as bricks.

kendoka69@reddit
Reddit warned me for using the phrase “a leopard ate his face”. I told them they better warn that whole damn sub then. Fucking lame.
grokbones@reddit
Warnings are a joke. They wouldn’t let me see what I posted when they gave me one.
chalwar@reddit
I’ve been banned by 4 subs at once and never figured out what I did wrong.
new2bay@reddit
Oh! I know this one!
There are a couple bots different subs use to ban people that participate in other subs they don’t like. You were probably banned from all 4 for the same post / comment, in a completely different, fifth sub. This is bullshit, and I complain about it on the mod support forums every time it comes up, but nothing ever gets done about it.
chalwar@reddit
Wow. Thanks for that info. Much appreciated!
renb8@reddit
Repo Man 1984 is one of the great 80s films. How could chat about it attract Reddit warnings? That’s a philistine response to art. Now excuse me while I go for a drive and see who wants to make twenty bucks.
fawnlake1@reddit
I got banned/warned from Reddit for replying to a post about a huge spider with a comment of “b#rn the house down to make sure it’s gone” and this was inciting violence and animal harm… I’m still confused
Eye_Of_Charon@reddit
I got canned from r/ dating and they couldn’t even tell me why. The post they cited was trying to be supportive to a dude who was having a hard time. I tried talking to a mod, they were hyper petty and rude. It was wild.
StrangeAssonance@reddit
I upvoted this. Hopefully I’m safe!
BadHairDay-1@reddit
I got a warning for threatening violence on the Gen x sub. I was never threatening violence. I was speaking against a child predator on a video.
Salty-Image-2176@reddit

Vegaprime@reddit
Got a warning for using that same n word last month.
Antihistamine69@reddit
I got banned for 3 days for calling out someone praising Mario's brother, for "threatening violence". I called it out because it was threatening violence and I'm the one that caught a ban for it. Elbarto_007@reddit
I got a permanent ban from r/MagnumPi responding to the Mods post about the site being hit with spam accounts
Used a quote from Magnum PI in my response to say I’d keep an eye out and let them know if I see any bot posts so that they can filter them out.
Bang. Permanent ban
Emailed the mod to ask why?
Got a snarky response that I was a clown. Then banned from interacting with the mod.
So annoying.
And there is no way for you to complain effectively about mods in a meaningful way.
Suffice to say I cannot post to Magnum PI now.

Jazzspasm@reddit
Reddit’s corporate executives, financial investment owners, along with their big corporate and government customers absolutely shit the bed when the ‘L’ word slotted a vampire CEO in the street, and the universal reaction was “He had it coming”
Calling for unvaccinated people during covid to be rounded up and pushed into work camps to be worked to death was fine, because that was on narrative for the owners and customers
Russian conscripts having their heads blown apart isn’t violence and calling for more of it isn’t calling for violence, because it’s on narrative
But a single vampire CEO got whacked - and everyone cheered - and that changed everything
Pretty much immediately, people using the ‘L’ word resulted in subreddit mods being given warnings, and subreddits being shut down by mods in protest, or simply giving up under the pressure of having to police for specific words and mute or ban users against myopic and opaque reddit admin guidelines
Within a week or two, the concept of “Top 1%” was forced onto users as unwanted, unasked for, irrelevant user tags - “Top 1% Commenter” and “Top 1% Poster”
These things happened at the same time and are not unrelated - reddit executives, project managers, development, infrastructure etc teams were tasked with these rollouts ahead of other programs
Reddit’s investors and corporate customers were fucking shaken up, seriously, by the “L” word, and the universal response to it
So now, you get this garbage
I’ve had my autobot warning, so I asked why and a human went yeah, no longer warned - not explained, of course
Basically - mega rich people have always been terrified of the dirty unwashed rising up, the 1% needs to be flipped, and the “L” word is absolutely never, ever to be mentioned
PartyCat78@reddit
It wasn’t until I read this that I realized I have not seen the L word mentioned or the topic even discussed anywhere on here for quite a while. Holy cow.
massiveattach@reddit
I'm getting my fix about that topic on red note and blue sky.
Jazzspasm@reddit

robchapman7@reddit

With so many leaving social media and this site slowly circling the drain, there may be an upside: people start interacting in real life and instead of raging online they get out and do something tangible.
TheGreenLentil666@reddit

PG-13 humor from here on out.
SawAll67@reddit
Reddit is now a circus like facebook. This happens when you let a brainless AI run the show.
Cheese-Manipulator@reddit
Some subreddits will ban you for posting in subreddits they don't like. Automods that ban should be banned.
YouMustBeJoking888@reddit
That's happened to me. I have no idea where a post of mine set them off. It's stupid.
YouMustBeJoking888@reddit
I'm banned from a number of subs where I have not posted a thing. Apparently you get banned for joining subs other subs don't like or some such shit. Reddit is nuts sometimes.
oflowz@reddit
Either reddit mods are a bunch of jerks or they have a crappy ai doing the regulation.
SensitivePotato44@reddit
They tell you it’s been reviewed by a human but the decisions are so asinine I can’t believe it.
SensitivePotato44@reddit
Banned from r/politics for the same reason. Did I threaten violence? Of course not. I may have told the mod he could keep his ban because I was tired of dealing with this bullshit though.
japanval@reddit
I took a FB suspension for posting a cartoon that featured a certain US president (hint: he uses lots of bronzer) wearing the uniform of a certain central European leader from, oh, 80-90 years ago (hint: he had a little bit of hair on his upper lip, just below his nose). I was "promoting h@te groups and v|0l3nce.
tamsui_tosspot@reddit
I got a warning for quoting Life of Brian.
Azzhole169@reddit
Lol, oh you want freedom of speech and expression….. good luck.
swentech@reddit
The bar for threatening violence on Reddit is very low. I’ve gotten them three times all of which were jokes. The best one was when I commented on a picture of four comedians. Three of them were deceased and the remaining one (still alive ) was a know asshole. So I made a joke, granted in poor taste, that the three deceased ones were saying “what are you still doing here” to the alive asshole. Bam threatening violence warning. Got another one for agreeing that a certain harsh criminal penalty was justified in certain cases. Got another one for asking a mod a question. Because of this I am now marked as a “repeat offender” and banned from the money earning programs on Reddit. You just have to laugh.
new2bay@reddit
Money earning programs? You mean the “contributor program?”
rwphx2016@reddit
I'm banned from "Am I the Asshole" for inciting and promoting violence. The offending post said "He's lucky she didn't throw a pot at him" or some such.
tky@reddit
It’s AI-assisted which means it’s wrong a lot. It isn’t commentary on the post itself just how the slop combine processed and adjudicated it.
new2bay@reddit
It’s not AI-assisted. It’s fully automated, and the bot is really dumb.
PoopieDoodieButtt@reddit
I have no problem leaving Reddit behind and moving on with my life if it continues to degenerate.
702PoGoHunter@reddit
I've gotten so many bans and suspension. It's their AI making poor decisions. I've had to dispute them for review and every time they change it in my favor. I hate this platform probably 80% of the time.
Turkzillas_gobble@reddit
I got permabanned in my city's sub for saying hikers who play music over a speaker probably should be eaten by bears.
Admittedly, this is an endorsement of a kind of violence. But is it really violent if it comes from a bear? I think that's just a bear being a bear, while I squirt barbecue sauce at the hikers.
Yeah, people get banned for weird shit sometimes. For an upvote though, that's new.
PoopieDoodieButtt@reddit
Perhaps it is violent, but I agree with you.

Ansel_Sounder@reddit

ktappe@reddit
It’s only a matter of time until a very long time user with a very large amount of karma gets erroneously permabanned from the site and decides to take reddit to court. So this kind of shit might actually end up getting them into court.

It’s great to know that the internet never actually grows up. Many many years ago I was in an IRC chatroom via my AOL dial up and the conversation was about adult cartoons and people started to throw Ren and Stimpy quotes around. Apparently was the only one who knew enough Ren & stimpy to throw out “I’ll teach your grandma to suck eggs!”
Suddenly I was dumped out of the room into whatever the generic waiting room was while some mod “reviewed” my hostile commentary. Then another “senior” mod popped in to “hear what I had to say”. It was very weird and at the time I remember being very freaked out, like somehow I was going to be banned from the internet.
wormil@reddit
I got a warning from meta for posting that hogweed attacks your DNA. I can no longer interact with certain accounts. I really want to know which accounts but it doesn't tell you.
snooze_sensei@reddit
Lol I got hit on Facebook with 30 random chats removed a few months ago for Inciting violence because I said to someone that the Facebook AI is outta control. Below was the first one. After that I quit Facebook.

I once got a warning for "threatening violence" by the AutoMod because I commented, in response to news posted about a bill introduced in Idaho banning COVID vaccines, that Idaho wants to kill off their own citizens.

I have been banned for this stupid rule #1 so many freakin times. Even when I state that it is just joking, they still ban me. I got away from a perma ban with this account when the topic was Corporal Punishment in a teaching thread.
I swear that these fucking bots do not understand humor (even dark humor). Every time that I was banned was because of being a smart ass.
Now I end anything that might be considered bad with (J/K. Please don't ban me).

I got a warning on a car sub responding to a pic of a car parked on the line. I said “when that dude comes out, kick him in the shins for parking that way.” Obviously joking, and obviously not something anyone would do or take seriously.
7figureipo@reddit
Reddit is either testing new automation to detect violence in comments, or there are some truly sad people with nothing better to do than report posts (often maliciously).
polyblackcat@reddit
I got one but couldn't see what the comment was that supposedly was the problem. Maybe the Facebook mod bots have infected reddit lol
rhea2779@reddit
Haha, I just got permanently banned (no warning no explanation) for a comment on a financial sub, when I asked why, I quoted Pierre Elliot Trudeau "The state has no business in the bedrooms of its people" and got muted from talking to the mod for 28 days.
sharltocopes@reddit
The other day a text response train from the Blues Traveler song The Hook started up and Reddit removed the comment in the thread about busting balloons and the following line.
They're idiots.
TwistedMemories@reddit
I just got back from a 3 day suspension for threats of violence. I appealed and was denied. I simply repeated they headline and what the story was about. Nothing more.
Aggravating-Shark-69@reddit
Yeah, I got a three day suspension for saying they should kill off a character on a TV show.
Leprrkan@reddit
Yep. I got a 3 day for something said as a joke; which should have been obvious to anyone with eyes. I shoulda used the stupid /s tag.
Some Reddit mods need a life.
redbanner1@reddit
3 day ban for alluding to violence in an entirely fictional situation that would have happened a long time ago.

Does it surprise anyone that Reddit is trying to be on the wrong side of history again?
hopelesscaribou@reddit
Not for that, but after 11 years on Reddit, and thousands of comments, I received a permanent ban from one popular sub three weeks ago and a warning from admins last week. Neither comment was overly controversial or out of line.
I have never threatened violence against anyone, though that was the rule they claim I broke.
No-Indication-7879@reddit
Same with me.
473713@reddit
Happened to me as well. I filed a complaint. Within 24 hours I got a message saying the ban had been issued by AI, it was reviewed by a human when I complained, and I was un-banned. They said they were continually retraining the AI when bans were reversed by humans. I don't know what's really going on but I wanted to say you weren't the only one who got a totally unjustified ban on the basis of "threatening violence." I did no such thing and would never threaten anybody.
HarveyMushman72@reddit
Sometimes, it's because you commented in a sub a mod doesn't like.
No-Indication-7879@reddit
I got a 7 day ban for something I didn’t do. I appealed it and was reinstated. Reddit was totally in the wrong.
INSTA-R-MAN@reddit
I got a 24 hour ban from the site for rule 1 violation, but still have zero clue what they were talking about. I suppose it could have been something so stupid.
burndata@reddit
About a month ago (after nearly 8 years of posting, with no issues) I started getting suspended for BS posts. Same "threatening violence" warning even though I never threatened anyone or anything.
hickorynut60@reddit
I got the same one in the death certificate Reddit. Totally bogus and random. Mine was a reply to a death nearly a hundred years ago when a wife hit him in the head with a hammer. I replied that she should have hit him one more time. Got a warning, appealed, appeal denied. 😂😂
GigabitISDN@reddit
Once upon a time, many many years ago, there was an article in r/news about a homeowner who walked in on an intruder assaulting his daughter. The intruder attacked the homeowner and the homeowner used deadly force against the intruder. The linked article was talking about how the DA refused to bring any charges against the homeowner.
And wouldn't you know, hundreds of comments saying things like "the DA is correct" or "this situation doesn't warrant murder charges, because their state law allows the homeowner to use deadly force to (1) protect a family member whose care he is responsible for against (2) an intruder who had no right to be in the home and who (3) initiated violence" got deleted.
I got a 3-day timeout myself for saying, verbatim, "The intruder was clearly the attacker here."
I don't know who Reddit thinks they're catering to with this pandering bullshit, but it sure isn't Redditors.
YeshuasBananaHammock@reddit
I got a warning for quoting song lyrics from the Viagra Boys...ON THE VBOYS SUB.
Troglodytes!
Nervous-Glove-@reddit
This "threatened violence " thing is fucking ridiculous. Been hit with that multiple times for absolutely nothing.
Alloyrocks@reddit
I got a warning recently which I disputed. The reply to the dispute was too fast for an actual person to have reviewed it (imo). It just changed my views on this platform overall. Between that and the AI generated click bait content…. I find myself spending more and more time on Bluesky.
One_Local5586@reddit
I got a 3 day ban from FB for asking if anyone had a staple gun I could borrow. The mod in the group I asked insisted that you could use such a thing to murder someone. FB agreed.
Reddit isn’t far behind. We’re dealing with the enshittification of all media.
ScoobyDarn@reddit

I was permanently banned from r/black people twitter for criticising Obama's drone strikes on civilians
I was also banned from r/selfawarewolves but that was my fault for being cranky
Last week I lost my main account for posting on an r/askreddit thread, something about a username causing death, and because I threatened violence, I lost the account altogether and wasn't able to create a new one
Like, do they actually want users?
It might time for a social media cleanse altogether, seriously
Madame_Kitsune98@reddit

Been a victim of this a coupe times. Had a full reddit ban for 7 days for answering a question on corporal punishment - just what happened to me whenI was a child (From the teachers and principal). Anyway, the said I was encouraging abuse of children. I appealed and lost.
Had another full ban which I appealed and won - can't remember the details exactly, but it was an auto-ban (so AI banned me) and the mods corrected it.
Still banned from posting in another subreddit because I had posted in another subreddit. In this case, nothing to do with harm or anything like that, but the subreddit has a slight (very slight) lean to the right.
So reddit has changed, and you need to be extra careful to what you post. Even innocent stuff can be taken out of context. I had no idea though that upvoting a post would create issues, that is a new one.
PartyCat78@reddit
I did not. But! I got one for suggesting someone have an electrician disconnect a wall outlet in a garage that she shared with another tenant who was charging their electric car there after being told not to by the landlord. The OP’s electric bill included the entire garage. Apparently suggesting having an electrical outlet safely disconnected is breaking this same rule.
To make it even better - it was flagged by a bot, I appealed it thinking surely a human will see the absurdity. But no.
What is going on?!
SoapyCheese42@reddit
The ai here is chronically stupid. I got a week off for commenting on the effects of a pesticide.
Edward_the_Dog@reddit

hunterravioli@reddit
The worst part is that we can not fight back. It's an automated system with no way to dispute.
Muggi@reddit
Yeah the auto-mods are absolutely insane sometimes. This account, freaking 17 years old, got "perma-banned" for commenting on a thread where someone ELSE was talking about manipulating reddit votes. No warning, yes an automated msg and my account's nuked.
In the admins' defense, once I challenged it and a human got eyes on the case, it was rescinded in a couple of days.
Shoehorse13@reddit
Hahaha I did not, but the last FB ban I ever got was for posting a picture of Otto with a gun to his head so this tracks.

fedexmess@reddit
This this particular one, but I got a warning for the same infraction and it was equally as stupid.
splunge4me2@reddit (OP)
That’s idiotic
kobuta99@reddit
No but the AI engine has just been issuing these left and right for equally innocuous and silly responses. It's looking for trigger words and just sending warnings without any human review and context.
Ok-Rock2345@reddit
It happens all the time. I just got back from a 3 day ban because I reminded people of a certain Amendment to the constitution.
splunge4me2@reddit (OP)
That’s just idiotic
sivart111@reddit
Let’s go do those crimes.
splunge4me2@reddit (OP)

sivart111@reddit
It’s absurd.
BoneChilling-Chelien@reddit
In short. Reddit is the wrong place for us.
starjammer69@reddit
I just upvoted the poster in solidarity.
Hayabusalvr11@reddit
You can appeal the warning but I can guarantee you that it won't be reversed. They claim that appeals are reviewed by humans. Maybe they are humanoid. But I don't credit them with a high degree of intelligence, logic or critical thinking skills. So give it a try if you want, but don't expect anything to change.
I got a warning for speaking as if I was someone who was going to do bad things. It was my bad, I didn't include quotes, though I doubt that would have helped, and perhaps I didn't make it clear that I was speaking as if. I did appeal it and explained all of that but the alleged human said nope you deserved it f*** off. To be more clear, someone suggested a stupid idea and I said well if I were a bad person I would do this if people implemented your stupid idea.
Youre-The-Victim@reddit
I got banned from legal advice for suggesting they go on judge Judy for some frivolous issue that was small claims at most.
CeeUNTy@reddit
I just got a warning for responding to an obvious troll, by calling them butt hurt, over 2 months ago. They're really on top of problems 🙄.
Throttlechopper@reddit
I got temporarily banned for responding to a video posted by a third-party wishing the subject of the video’s unoccupied house would catch fire and they would get a lackluster insurance reimbursement for said damage. My appeal was denied even though no direct threat of violence occurred, only a wish and a hypothetical situation. I dropped that sub faster than you can say, “The life of a repo man is always intense.”
CeeUNTy@reddit
Ummm, that legit sounds pretty disturbing though.
Throttlechopper@reddit
I’m sure you’re withholding much more info cause calling someone a “mouth-breather” is not warning-worthy.
CeeUNTy@reddit
You'd think so, right? I went back and read it and couldn't believe it, especially since it was over 2 months ago.

TheeDelpino@reddit
And just like that I got my comment removed and a warning. This is exactly what I am talking about. The warnings in Reddit now are just ridiculous.
Reboot-Glitchspark@reddit
Mods and admins get weird. They get drunk, just like the rest of us. Make snap decisions that'll tank your old account. The 'automated systems' are basically always drunk and careless by their very nature.
That's just part of the grand game. You make a new account and carry on as normal.
The worst is shadowbans - where you can still read and post and comment, but no one will ever see your posts or comments because they're all hidden/deleted. And there's no notification or anything about that. You're just silently, invisibly, blanked out. But it all looks normal to you. Except you never get any upvotes.
Not that upvotes matter, but if you're sharing things from the heart, you expect people to see that. But no, you just poured your heart out, maybe put 30 minutes into typing and editing a comment, and no one will ever see it.
raoul_bukowski@reddit

I was suspended for three days for suggesting that a television set should no longer be present in the home of an elderly person who suffered extreme personality disorders by watching too much of a particular harmful news programming choice. I was joking about dispatching the TV, but that didn't matter.
That was flagged as "threatened violence or physical harm" with the implication that a television set was a sentient being with a natural life and a soul.
The appeal failed, so now I feel very censored by a class of moderators who will dispatch people with anything that implies harm to even inanimate objects. This is a solid rule in life, but the literal interpretations make every word choice count.
Now, I live in fear of the moderators because they clearly use their power to threaten and intimidate without recourse or accountability. We are powerless.

It's AI/Bots that are doing this. They key on words, phrases, or image analysis to issue warmings. There is no contextual analysis.
