Hello all, seeking some quick advice. TL;DR
Today I had a rental scheduled for a plane at my flight school currently have a PPL. I was called about 50 minutes prior to my flight, whilst also being 20 minutes to the airport (airport is 1 hour away from home). I was told there was an engine issue with my plane and there was a loud thumping noise coming from the engine. Obviously due to this my rental was cancelled. I found it odd I wasn’t asked to reschedule, so I decided to call back 5 minutes later to see availability in another plane later today. As I called back and asked if I could hop in another plane later today another person at the desk picked up. I was told I wasn’t current enough to rent out today. This made sense as I haven’t flown since early April. I was told I had to get a spin up with an instructor or have a certain amount of hours in the last 90 days. Ok no issue. I said thank you and I’ll get a spin up flight before renting.
Here’s where I have an issue. I was lied to about the plane being broken. I checked the block I was scheduled in, and it completely got replaced with another person. Am I right to see this as a red flag? I would have had no issue if they told me I wasn’t current enough and needed a spin up, but to lie and say the plane was broken just to get me off the schedule seems disingenuous. The first person lied, and then the second person told me the real reason I couldn’t fly today. I cannot help but think if anyone else operating that plane today heard what I did this morning they would be skeptical of whether or not they should operate that plane. This whole situation doesn’t sit right with me, and advice would be great. Thanks

That's not how TL;DR works.
Anyway, it's not uncommon to get removed from a rental for a higher priority student. It's a flight school primarily, not a rental shop.
Did they actually lie? Maybe the found the issue and fixed it in time to a different student on it. Too many variables. Instead of asking us if it's a red flag, why don't you ask the school what happened? You know, like an adult would do?

I edited it my fault. Also I did ask and got clarification once I called by why I couldn’t actually fly. It was because I wasn’t current, not because the plane was broken.
OutOfBase@reddit
Ok, so I'm really not seeing the problem here.
AltruisticGround6683@reddit (OP)
The problem was they lied about the plane being broken? How does someone get put in my block within 5 minutes if there was an engine issue. I’m talking about trust here. How do you think this looks good if the reason I can’t rent isn’t just told to me instead of lying about a plane being broken?
OutOfBase@reddit
...why don't you ask the flight school that question?
AltruisticGround6683@reddit (OP)
Dude that’s why I’m asking for advice on how I should approach it. You don’t have to be a douche
OutOfBase@reddit
You're asking reddit how you should feel and behave.
I don't know why you feel the need to crowdsource an answer to a very simple problem. That's just a reflection of your maturity level.
AltruisticGround6683@reddit (OP)
And you are on reddit replying and commenting on an issue with no intent of helping. That says a lot about your maturity level.
Correction, I asked this flying sub for advice. Not how I should feel or behave. I get it you are an ATP CFI CFII MEI great, good for you dude. Thanks for the advice

I see you're not capable of listening. Why come to reddit to ask for advice if you're not willing to hear it? I told you exactly what to do. But it's not what you wanted to hear.

“You know like an adult would do”. Make condescending comments trying to cause a confrontation in Reddit comments. Your initial reply was condescending. I have no issue with trying your approach, but frankly you’re just acting like a jerk.
OutOfBase@reddit
"This guy on the internet was a jerk to me! And the flight school lied to me!" Boo fuckin hoo

Maybe the front desk person you initially spoke to was confused or made a mistake.

Try to find a flying club near you. I'm sure there are exceptions, but flight schools are notorious for making life hard for people who want to rent without instruction.
AltruisticGround6683@reddit (OP)
Gotcha, thanks for the advice dude
RexFiller@reddit
Sounds like someone else really needed the plane. Maybe checkride coming up. Maybe they're just prioritizing flights with instructors. However if they lied about the reason, that's messed up and I would just go somewhere else or rent a less desirable plane. Maybe look for a flying club.
AltruisticGround6683@reddit (OP)
Yea totally have no issue with that. It’s just the fact that I was lied to about the plane being broken. I wouldn’t have had a problem if another student needed it for a check-ride or whatever.

Take your money elsewhere.
