Spain just got hit with a full-scale telecom blackout - Movistar, Orange, Vodafone, O2, and Digimobil all went down. No signal. No internet. Even 112 emergency lines went dark in major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.

There's fuckery afoot
SpotResident6135@reddit
They recently criticized Israel.
therapistofcats@reddit
And?
SpotResident6135@reddit
Well we know how the Zionists respond to even the mildest criticisms…
With those guys, you have to watch what they threaten (by blaming others). https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/ex-mossad-director-says-cyber-poses-biggest-threat-to-free-world/
therapistofcats@reddit
But France, Uk, Canada haven't had the same issue and they recently made some claims too.

Or maybe it was just network upgrades ...hmm
SpotResident6135@reddit
Hey buddy. How’s Canada doing today?
therapistofcats@reddit
"Bell conducted an update that impacted some of our routers. We rolled back the update to quickly restore services," a spokesperson for the company told CBC News. "We want to assure our customers and partners that this was a technical issue and we have ruled out a cybersecurity incident as the root cause."
"Our network teams are conducting a full review to ensure that this situation doesn't happen again. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience."

You can be against the genocide in Palestine and not believe Israel is doing random cyber attacks all of a sudden. It's not mutually exclusive.
SpotResident6135@reddit
I guts it just takes westerners a bit longer to catch up to the rest of humanity.
Why is that do you think?
therapistofcats@reddit
In regards to what?
SpotResident6135@reddit
That the US-backed genocide is wrong.
therapistofcats@reddit
I think a lot of Westerners agree. But it's hard to get the government to go against allies. I think western governments might have a hard time turn on someone who is supposed to be an ally. But I think a lot of the people don't think what Israel is doing is right.
SpotResident6135@reddit
Well yeah, with friends like these, I can see why you’d want to support their atrocities.

So, by your logic after this we should expect the Spanish government to stop criticizing Israel? And I guess same for the other countries that just passed the resolution? Because I'm willing to wait a few weeks to see if that prediction comes true.
SpotResident6135@reddit
They’ve been pretty silent before.
ComicCon@reddit
So that's a no? My question is what would have to be true for you to change your mind about your theory? I picked something that seemed like a reasonable idea to me.
SpotResident6135@reddit
Why do I need to change my mind?
ComicCon@reddit
You don't? I'm just curious, because you jumped in here with what I'd call a bit of logical leap and I'm wondering what you expect to happen. Having worked in IT since the early 90s and having seen how all the old router heads are all being put out to pasture and having two-three of them replaced by one kid fresh out of college it doesn't surprise me in the least that this happened due to loss of institutional knowledge in the search for profits.

Early on, I invested in real estate on the side and developed rental properties with the pennies that I earned in IT, and I always dollar cost averaged every paycheque into the stock market.
I must have a horseshoe up my ass, because the real estate is now worth more than my entire life earnings in IT. It's nothing life threatening but my health isn't so good anymore. My Dad retired at 64, he didn't know it at the time, but he already had cancer. Passed at 66. Most of the males in my bloodline are not terribly long lived.
Anyway, I'm thinking that somehow I managed to accumulate enough assets to pull off Freedom 55. I want to build some memories other than staring at the screen. Maybe if i get to spend some time just floating on the water, listening to the water lapping at the hull, smelling the fresh clean air and eating some fresh caught fish it might buy me some better health. Idk, genocidal colonialism is pretty much THEE European value. We just got started early enough that we can write off our war crimes as history not news.
My dream solution for the Eurovision issue would be to invite Palestine to officially join. Then they can kick out Israel for the same reason Russia was kicked out over Ukraine, contemporary violence against a fellow competing nation. A 2-becomes-1 state solution, perhaps.

An update? On all major telecoms, even those owned by foreign companies? At the same time? In these specific locations?
Steamed_Memes24@reddit
Yep. It was an update that didnt go as planned and shut down things in certain areas of Spain, including Madrid. It was being fixed up by the time I wrote that post and is probably fully back online now.
Snark_Connoisseur@reddit

I've been messing with meshtastic for a few years now. Gone through a few different devices. The newest one I got is this:
https://www.seeedstudio.com/SenseCAP-Card-Tracker-T1000-E-for-Meshtastic-p-5913.html
I think it's a good entry level device in a pretty small package, with a low price. My wife and I used it the other day in our local Walmart supercenter, we don't usually get cell service in there and I refuse to connect to their Wi-Fi but we were able to reach each other all over the store. I like the credit card size compared to some of the T LoRa devices I've used. Only major downside is the charge cable isn't a USB C, which I guess makes sense since it's so slim.
Riffz@reddit
Heltec v3 has been a good beginner/intro for me. However I’ve learned their energy consumption is pretty bad compared to others. I’ve been looking at RAK now but not sure what to buy.
Just make sure you grab 2 devices. Put one up as a client (router) and use one as mobile (client mute). That way you can at least test your own comms.

What is going on with their systems. Electricity last month now telecoms. Who’s invading Spain?
mediocre_remnants@reddit
Something like this can happen anywhere. The electrical and telecom grids in the US are just as fragile. It's just luck that we haven't had many widespread outages for issues besides weather or other natural disasters.
My family had 2 generations of linemen and I know a lot of people who work for the power and telecom companies. I haven't heard a single one talk about how robust the systems are, they just talk about how fragile everything is, where one bad component could wipe out power for hundreds of thousands of people and take many hours to repair.
