Which city would you move to?

I’m 29M and have lived in small villages/towns in Cambridgeshire my whole life. I am single and currently flat sharing. Had thought about buying a place where I am but honestly I’m getting sick of living in a crappy town with nothing going on. I think I would like to move to a big city where I can meet new people, try new things, go out and have fun, and just have a bit of an adventure. I’m going to spend a few weekends this summer visiting cities I could potentially move to. I haven’t really spent any time in any cities other than going to London for gigs. I would want to be in a bigger city than Cambridge (150k population). Would also like a city with a good LGBT scene as I’ve recently discovered that I’m gay. Having nice countryside nearby would be a plus. I earn around £40K so I think I would have a budget of ~£1000/month to rent, I’d like to rent a flat to myself, don’t really want to continue with house shares. I am a mechanic and there are jobs in garages everywhere so not too worried about finding a job. Which city would you recommend for a young person to move to?

Nottingham might tick your boxes. I'm not sure about their LGBTQ scene, but I believe that they're very accepting, generally speaking. They have excellent nightlife, particularly for live music. You're not a million miles from Sheffield, Leeds, Leicester and other big cities. I reckon it's probably fairly alright for property prices too.
