ULPT: How can I (legally) ruin someone's life?
Posted by MixedBagOfMush@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 90 comments
For a bit of background, my best friend was casually seeing a guy for a few months. He sexually assaulted her, which (along with a combination of other things) led her to experience a psychotic break, during which he raped her multiple times.
There is no physical evidence because she didn't get a rape kit done, and he insists it was consensual, despite the many obvious factors that make it clear it was not. But we all know how this would play out if she tried to seek justice through the courts.
I ran a background check and unearthed some previous charges he got dismissed. Battery and assault, which didn't surprise me in the slightest. I don't know what I could do with that information, considering he got them all cleared.
I've thought of many things. Plastering his name and face on social media, somehow paying for a billboard saying "THIS MAN IS A RAPIST," messaging his friends and family, emailing potential employers... but whatever I do, I want to do it legally. And, most importantly, if he decides to get revenge, I want him to go after me. Not my friend. I'll deal with the consequences. She's dealt with enough.
So, does anyone have any tips?
Alarming_Bag_5571@reddit
Do you KNOW this?
My ex one night told me she was essentially drunk raped on Halloween and even showed me the bruises on her forehead. I asked if she had a rape kit done and suddenly she backpedaled. IShe is very big on medical and legal advocacy. I believed her and was incredibly sympathetic and told her it's not her fault, and it doesn't change how I look at her. She tells me two days later she had one done but doesn't want it legally pursued. I saw her once more after that and she was standoffish, there was no initiation of intimacy.
A week later she stops responding to me and hints that she's with someone else.
I eventually figured out she's not a victim, she's just a cheater.
jacob6875@reddit
I'm not a lawyer but it would be defamation to say untrue/unproven things about someone.
So getting that billboard, posting on social media, emailing people etc. could easily lead you to getting sued by him since you have no proof that he is a "rapist". This would also be the case with battery and assault charges that were dismissed since legally it wasn't proven that he did those things.
Your friend needs to go to the police. Rapes get proven all the time without physical evidence. If she told people right after it happened, has text message chains with friends/family or the person that assaulted her etc. That can be used as proof. Not to mention her testimony.
Flux_My_Capacitor@reddit
You must be a man. Rapes have a dismal conviction rate.
HeavyMetalPootis@reddit
To be fair, women are just as capable of being ignorant as men are. That said, I agree 100% with your statement. Before a trans friend of mine transitioned, she was SA'd in the bathroom of a college by a man. At the time, she was still using her dead name and was carrying herself as a male. After it happened, she went to a trusted professor and then got the police involved on the same day. They had the guy that did it identified, but the Prosecutor didn't want to pursue the case.
rabid_cheese_enjoyer@reddit
aren't they mandated reporters? they are in California
mushrush12@reddit
What if you put “I believe this guy raped someone” on a billboard?
BrazilianButtCheeks@reddit
You can put “is this guy a rapist?” And then you can include his name and photo completely legally.. its not defamation if its a question
Lost_In_Heaven@reddit
find a website like crabrevenge.com
unfortunately it looks like the server is down for this one
Particular-Pay-7348@reddit
Post his number on Craigslist in areas that have a lot of people with neck discoloration and list a free John boat with his number, and similar to casual encounter ads, he'll have to change his number I can guarantee that
stargazer0519@reddit
Saying in public that he’s a rapist when he doesn’t have a conviction for same in a court of law may you up to a defamation lawsuit. (This is not legal advice, talk to your own licensed attorney in your own jurisdiction, yada yada).
Do his employers know about his previous convictions for assault and battery? You could always print those out and mail them in, anonymously, to HR.
Please be careful in anything that you choose to do. Someone with a history of violent crime in their past is someone more likely than the average bear to commit violent crime in their future. It’s impossible to say that you could get them to chase you down and blame you, and not your female friend.
Persons who regularly commit violent crimes often do not have a tremendous surfeit of wisdom around concepts like blame, responsibility, etc. They’re often just looking for the nearest convenient object or person to destroy.
BrazilianButtCheeks@reddit
You can buy a big billboard with his name and picture that says “is this guy a rapist?”
Rampaging_Ducks@reddit
Sure, then it becomes libel instead of slander. You're not clever, dude, people still get hit with defamation suits for stuff like that
SnooCauliflowers7047@reddit
What about if one always refers to him as " an ALLEGED rapist" ? Is that more legal?
seefatchai@reddit
What if the sign had his picture and the words NO RAPE! next to him?”
XMandri@reddit
These technicalities don't work in court. Everybody knows perfectly well what you're trying to do, it's still defamation
BrazilianButtCheeks@reddit
Okay😂😂
TheWorstTypo@reddit
Can confirm this is not the case (re: defamation for saying rapist in public) rest of info is good
Sailorslt@reddit
I think the great Nancy mace is going through something like this rn 🤣
grangerenchanted@reddit
Sue him for rape and then take out a billboard that says “I’m being sued for rape”?
Flux_My_Capacitor@reddit
He has no previous convictions. Read OP again.
New-Firefighter-1514@reddit
You said you wanted something LEGAL but posted on ULPT. I did some research and found a good article https://lifehacker.com/evil-week-the-best-ways-to-get-revenge-legally-1850974570
ExplanationRoyale@reddit
Legal and unethical are two different things.
New-Firefighter-1514@reddit
You're correct, but usually, people post unethical illegal ideas.
Ok-Picture-3989@reddit
on top of the other things, if you’re open to witchcraft i would definitely look into spells that draw light on this persons actions and can essentially ensure karma takes care of some of it
Purpletoedragons@reddit
IF you mail anything do not mail it from where you or your friend live - send it to someone who lives in another state to mail to his employer, or whoever you want to send it to, and have them mail it.
Try to get an official court copy of his previous charges, even if they were dismissed. The fact that the court considered them valid enough to charge him, will mean a lot to an employer.
These type of people are very savvy, which is already apparent by what he has gotten dismissed, and you want to make sure that he has no reason to think your friend, or you had anything to do with what is mailed.
It also cuts down on liability issues for both of you.
Best of luck, and please try to get your friend to talk with someone, so this isn't eating her up inside.
Advice from someone who has been there, and got out, wanted to help others, and got trained on how to help others in the situation.
TeachMePersuasion@reddit
Is dropping something in a public mailbox a viable strategy?
I haven't used one of those in so long I can't remember if they even have them anymore.
Purpletoedragons@reddit
It can be, but it is best to do it in an area where you don't reside.
There are public mailboxes, at least where I live, at shopping malls, outside grocery store malls, and in front of the post office.
You can go to the service desk with a 'found letter' and turn it in and ask them to include it with their outgoing mail. 99% of the time they will, though some will wait 24 to 48 hours to see if anyone claims it before they mail it.
If you do this, it's best if it looks a little dirty as if it has been lying on the floor, if you get what I am saying.
Hope this helps.
raven_widow@reddit
She had a psychotic break. Anything he did to her was non consensual because she was unable to consent. Law time.
DoxYourself@reddit
This is obviously the only thing to do. It’s fun to daydream about revenge but just go to the police
Flux_My_Capacitor@reddit
Yeah, and good luck proving that. No proof and the DA won’t proceed most likely.
randomrealitycheck@reddit
Believe me, this is what would be the preferred remedy but there is no supporting evidence. This leaves her testimony which would be brutally attacked. This would be even worse on her a second time.
With that said, two thoughts:
People like this don't stop and from what I've learned on TV, they oftentimes get worse.
Find the right LEO, someone who this type of crime resonates with. Give them what details you can and if you're convincing they might go have a talk with the guy. What we don't know is if they are looking for a someone who committed a similar crime recently.
Sorry for the leaning to the ethical side suggestion but with a little work, you might be able to get this guy his just deserts.

Oh, I agree, but nothing I say here will affect it one way or the other.
In any case, this being ULPT, sign him up, but use the address of one of his neighbors who has children so stuff is sent to the neighbor "by mistake".

My son’s ex still signs him up for everything she can find online. He gets constant phone calls and emails about every product under the sun. SMH.

... are you me?
Seriously, I'm going through something similar right now.
Godlyeyes@reddit
If your still friends with him, invite him out to reconcile over some drinks at a bar and after he’s really drunk, start telling him he’s a pos and a rapist until he gets mad and when he hits you call the cops.
Or something along those lines idk
sho666@reddit
write up a slightly anonimysed version of events, obviously you dont need to detail who your friend is,
print off flyers detailing that he's a rapist
drop them in all the neighbours letterboxes in the street at 3-4am

Do you have mutual friends who would know if he were to get a new phone number? That's important.
Do not do the billboard — that will get you sued. First, speak with a lawyer. See if they can hook you up with all past history on him. In my state, we have something called "Alacourt." You can pay for access for all government records, even those which are dismissed. Don't rely on a web background checker — take the steps to look yourself. See how they got cleared. An attorney may be able to help you procure information. Same goes for a private investigator. Even if you don't have any physical evidence, having a paper trail can help your case or another person's. Get it on record what he did to her, even if that means going to the police department and giving a statement.
I concur with other commenters you should still find his criminal history and send it to his employer (with VPN + fake email), even if the charges are dismissed.
Sign him up for everything. Scientology, blast texts (but use a VPN for the online sites), every single store, everything you could possibly find. Same goes for email and address.
Use his information to send him packets on consent. I'm sure there are places that can send you free leaflets. If you're going to send him anything personally, make sure it contains NOTHING threatening. Only buy the stamps with cash. Even better, get someone else to buy the stamps for you — also only with cash.
When I was in high school, a friend of mine was abused by a fellow student. She knew he left his car unlocked, and he had cloth seats. She dumped anchovies (with the juice) on his seats. He had to buy a new vehicle due to the smell. Keep potential cameras in mind. If he lives in a secluded area, absolutely don't dump a large amount nearby. (Genuinely, keep other people in mind. Don't involve them in your revenge.)
DO NOT mail anything from either of your personal addresses. DO NOT use any personal emails or phone numbers. DO NOT put your name on anything. If you're going to do things online, use a VPN.
Life-Mirror6311@reddit
This is an example of the 'old ways' of solving a problem being superior. The men in the friends and family are supposed to handle this, discreetly and properly.
KnowledgeAmazing7850@reddit
Dude - seriously- very seriously - VPN - then look for revenge for hire expert. There are countless options - many specialize in exactly this kind of thing. They are creative and legal. You are welcome.

AllyInAction@reddit
if you can access anywhere he spends a lot of time, you could leave something that will stink up the place (and him, by extension) forever. Make him as physically revolting as he is in character. I've heard if you put something nasty in a closed glass jar and leave it, it will get grosser until it cracks open, and by then it should be a FOUL liquid with a stench that cant be cleaned. Not sure how legal it is, but I imagine it would be at worst considered property damage
CherryB0mbsh3ll@reddit
Send that exploding pack of glitter to their house
Twice_Knightley@reddit
Buy his FirstnameLastname.com (or, barring that) IsFirstnameLastnameARapist.com and post stuff on there. Pay for google ads if needed. If you get the first, send a nice letter to friends, family, and employers inviting them to visit the website, but don't make it look bad at first glance, make it look like something he's inviting people to check out.
If you say anything illegal, be prepared to be sued, but asking questions and saying "Sources Claim..." generally make a grey area.
canadian_stripper@reddit
Sign them up for every shady thing you can find!

PI3states@reddit
Post him in Are we Dating the Same Guy on FB with all details and on Tea app. Can be done anonymously
LocationSensitive504@reddit
The people on that site often get defamation law suits. I know from experience. I had an ex lie about me on their and I got a lawyer who then subpoenaed the moderator of that group to respond. They didn't respond so they were served a warrant. They finally gave up the identity of the poster, who I then sued for defamation. That person was giving a big fine and I won about 12,500 in damages. I also sued the creator and moderator of the Facebook group. I won about 8500 in damages from them due to them allowing for the nasty comments and doxxing. My local towns "are we dating the same guy" was taken down by Facebook. Another has since reopened though.
Also, on that new local site, it mentions that if anyone asks for information about a user they will give it up and everyone is subject to defamation law suits.
PI3states@reddit
Yeah google how many cases were dismissed by a judge lol
PI3states@reddit
I am wondering what your ex posted? If it is not true then OK. But most of the women just share experience

Well he said his ex lied and he won damages in a defamation lawsuit so I can only imagine she wasn’t telling the truth.

BrazilianButtCheeks@reddit
Actually if you post a billboard dont say “this guy is a rapist.” Say “is this guy a rapist” because then you can use his picture and his name completely legally .
mister-ferguson@reddit
"This guy is NOT a rapist" then people will have to ask about it
Flux_My_Capacitor@reddit
And no billboard company would get involved in that as they would be sued as well.
BrazilianButtCheeks@reddit
Thats also completely untrue.. the “billboard company” is just a leasing agent.. they dont place the advertisement on the board and its in the contract that they are only leasing space and do not necessarily support the add itsself.

Just how committed are you to this?

I saw someone else on this sub looking for the correct course of action to get back at someone for impersonating them online. Apparently the person was creating accounts using the victim's pfp and info, and (as the victim) went online and said a bunch of derogatory things to people.
The sub said the only reason they could get the authorities involved was because the perpetrator was threatening people. So just don't do that. Then make sure everyone they know sees the terrible posts.
