If only we had people watching the monitors 24/7 ...
Oh well at least we saved what? $80k in salary?
whoibehmmm@reddit
Yep. Just the start. Hurricane season should be an absolute blast starting this year. People will only know to put up shutters when their roofs fly off.
SlinkyNormal@reddit
What an ignorant thing to say.
Netspionage@reddit
Positive you never worked in any capacity for NOAA.
Source: spent years working for them, especially at the original WWB.
SlinkyNormal@reddit
I never said I did.
Source: Above comments.
Netspionage@reddit
So, you confess you're the ignorant one in this case.
Thank you for admitting it.

SlinkyNormal@reddit
Beg to differ. Someone said that there would be no warning for hurricanes, and that would save "what? $80,000 a year?" This would imply that with the cut of one person, there would be no more hurricane predictions. Thus, I said if one person controls all of the forecasting for the hurricane season, that should have been changed years ago because that's obsurd. I would HOPE there would be other people that can forecast. Perhaps if you would take the time to read the thread, you would understand. The irony of this argument is that I stated I dont agree with the cuts and Trump. I was pointing out the flaw in the commenter's logic. Where I messed up is I didn't virtue signal and pander to the vas majority of Reddit and fill my comment with "drumpf" "orange cheeto" "orange man bad" which inevitably leads to downvotes.
cerwisc@reddit
The comment you responded to saying it was ignorant thing to say was:
Of course people are going to call you out. Nobody would understand that the thing you actually meant was ignorance was the obvious exaggeration of 80k in the parent comment. Absolutely nothing in your comment would indicate that.
Honestly itâs easier to believe that youâve just moved the goalposts instead lol.
SlinkyNormal@reddit
Literally my second comment. Seems pretty clear where I stand. But sure, I'll take your advice and try to be more concise. I'll try to use the keywords next time so I can fit in with the mob a little better. Since I got so many downvotes on the comment below, could you help me clear it up? Lol.
cerwisc@reddit
You somehow read my comment and got none of what I said lol
SlinkyNormal@reddit
Okay, honestly, I think I am done with this conversation. My comments were clear, literally spelling it out for you. Will it change? Sure. But to make an assertion that "we will never get anymore hurricane updates" as someone stated is absurd. Nobody on this site cares about votes? Now I know you are trolling me! Lol. Read almost any post and somehow republicans and Trump are worked in. I recall during the 2020 election there was a whole organized thread of people putting together a website to track and log people that had Trump signs in their yards during the campaign. But no one cares about votes? Lol. Sort by "popular" it's all Trump, it's insane! I got shit on and called a racist in a comment section because there was a house in Alabama and I said "Alabama has nice state parks." You know as well as I do that if you dont somehow work in how bad Trump or Musk is you're going to get downvotes. I dont give a damn about downvotes, it is just ridiculous to see that its all Reddit has become. I literally agreed with the statement, just didnt use the buzz words. I could go in to the larger issue of the echo chamber that is reddit, but I think I'll just leave it. And for what it's worth, I did get an update on my phone through my local weather app yesterday that there is an area of possible development, so I guess we are still getting forecasts completed.
cerwisc@reddit
You have the flip version of TDS lol.
Iâm glad you recognize itâs absurd! Then edit the first comment to be more detailed instead of repeatedly accusing others of TDS. You know people would be just as angry if any other president did what he did with DOGE cuts to research centers, right?
Nobody cares about votes. If you get downvoted, it doesnât affect your freedom of speech on this site. You can literally get karma for posting cat pictures and even if you get shadowbanned you can make a new account. The only thing about it that matters is ur comment gets hidden but if the threadâs short enough people will click on them anyways to read. Reddit algorithm default sorting recommends stuff based on what you click on, and idk what youâre clicking on but my feed looks about normal for a president who is doing an unprecedented number of EOs lol.
whoibehmmm@reddit
Oh? Will they have the information that the people here didn't have? The key to being ready for a hurricane is advance, accurate notice. Sounds like that is out the window.
SlinkyNormal@reddit
Yeah, I'm pretty sure we will still have access to accurate weather predictions. I dont agree with the cuts, don't care for Trump, but I don't think the lack of a forecaster is going to change Hurricane predictions much. And if everything really indeed relies on one person, then that should have been changed long ago.
Vegetable-Board-5547@reddit
It's not the forecast. It's the clean up for which there will likely be no assistance
juicysweatsuitz@reddit
Ask the people in Kentucky how thatâs going for them
SlinkyNormal@reddit
I feel terrible for them, tornados are awful.

Bot
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit
LOL checking between the 2 accounts you're actually looking like a bot with how you reply to things.
TextImaginary8820@reddit
Uh oh theyâre on to me Clyde
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit
So, why regularly go around saying bot?
TextImaginary8820@reddit
Got tired of trying to have meaningful arguments with trolls. Once itâs obvious a poster is being obtuse or using troll tactics, I switch gears bot mode.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit
I think that's where the failure is though, the breakdown in meaningful civil conversation and learning. Why say anything at such a point.
TextImaginary8820@reddit
To have the last word.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit
Eh, if you want to look that way, I guess its up to you.

Fresh-Wealth-8397@reddit
If it relied on two people they would have just fired both of them lol the point is they don't care about people's lives
TextImaginary8820@reddit
They fired more than one weather forecaster. Donât be so obtuse.
The69Alphamale@reddit
Do you even own a suit?
SlinkyNormal@reddit
Strange question, but yes.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
Dont worry the Trump admin will graciously buy up all your property for pennies on the dollar
Now say thank you
Interesting-Bar980@reddit
Living in Southern California I swear by Watch Duty. Canât recommend it highly enough!
shryke12@reddit
London, KY had over an hour tornado warning. The politicizing of this is getting disgusting.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
Ya your right lets defund them more !
Do you hear yourself
shryke12@reddit
I work for the federal government and have for 20 years. I know what's actually going on. So much insane propaganda and nonsense is out here of people who have absolutely no clue.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
I also work for the government and this is not propaganda
Just because you dont see it personally doesn't mean it doesn't exist kiddo
Are you seriously denying they are defunding programs?????
shryke12@reddit
Of course not but we know exactly what happened here in roles like this. These offices got reduced by retirees who voluntarily took DRP and are stalled by the hiring freeze. The people getting RIFed are not those doing this work.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
But it did affect it lol
and they are actively trying to reduce these roles
All roles really
They have openly said they wait to privatize all of this
How is any of that propaganda when its literally facts this admin announces out loud
shryke12@reddit
Literally everything has been said out loud. Crazy extreme politicians say insane shit sometimes, on both sides. NWS is not getting privatized. That would require Congress, and it's absolutely not happening. It's just fear mongering, just like when a couple crazy Democrats were calling complete refunding and disbanding of police. That was never going to happen, but you saw tons of conservative propaganda on it. This is no different. NWS will continue to do this role.
Now, will there be less grants and backend research type stuff unrelated to this? Almost certainly. But while nice, we simply can't keep funding nice to have things on the credit card.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
You dont watch the news much do you? Lol
The poor bastards in Air Traffic Control would love to have a word with you
In case you didn't know Air Traffic Controll is a congressional thing...
Yet they are actively defunding it until it breaks so they can then privatize it
(which they have already started because Elons Starlink is now used in some places)
But sure cover your ears and eyes and maybe you can avoid reality for a lil longer.
Its not propaganda when IT IS LITERALLY HAPPENING IN REAL TIME.
Comparing it to defund the police is hilarious though thanks for the chuckle
shryke12@reddit
My neighbor and good friend is ATC. They were exempted from all cuts and in fact due to shortages they are even exempted from the hiring freeze. Again, your information is very poor and you just spout baseless propaganda.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
Ohhh so because you know 1 guy im wrong
Are you retarded?
My family works ATC and have lost half their crew and are so overwhelmed and over worked they are looking to quit before they cause an accident and get sued and loose their career in aviation
So because you know 1 guy my family MUST be lying and making things up right?
This country is done for with people like you behind it
jtbee629@reddit
Tell that to the 2/3 of Kentucky who voted for him.
schlongtheta@reddit
Out of 100 voters in Kentucky, 39 voted for Trump. (rounding up). Voter turnout was less than 60%.
In any event, natural disasters do not check the voter rolls before they destroy lives and infrastructure.
LionNo0001@reddit
Voter turn-out got shot in the foot when the appearance of wealthy donors dictating the ticket made the news in July. George Clooney makes a fine scapegoat but the DNC did about as much damage as they could to the perceptuon of a healthy election.Â
Maybe Clooney should write an editorial about that.
Pando5280@reddit
And democratic voter taxes go towards the rebuilding costs and increased insurance rates.Â
schlongtheta@reddit
Yes! If taxes should go toward anything... it should be to protect against and rebuild after these natural disasters.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
I dont trust election numbers
"Elon knows those machines very well"
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
They did bring in outside resources. They were fully staffed at the time other than a full time overnight forecaster.
My concern is a larger outbreak and resources be stretched thinner.
When it's coming for you, at night, all you can do is get you and yours to your safe place, try to alert others, and wait.
TheNorsemen777@reddit
Well... i guess they weren't fully staffed then were they
I fully expect there to be zero resources within 4 years
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
No they had a temporary overnight forecaster so yes you are correct. Fully staffed at the time but not always fully staffed was the point I was trying to make.
Those that were working were trying to warn people not just sitting on their hands.
I'm concerned about additional cuts as well.
Impossible-Sleep-658@reddit
I think the other personâs point was âeither you (are fully staffed all the time) have someone working or you donât â.
Semantics are in part how we got here.
To have a âFULLY STAFFEDâ operation, monitoring 1 system, for a 24/7 operation it takes ~6 people, obviously some days would have 2 people working but this is the best solution for a 24hr operation. 1 person per shift, with a relief. The 40 hour worker is entitled to be sick, take vacation, and should the need arise, be able to take leave for emergencies, all without too much interruption, and absence of an available person to monitor.
Either they did or didnât. Filling full time positions with part-time people, while saving money is more akin to making it work, and NOT being fully staffed.
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
I agree that it's not ideal.
Yes, also ideally we would have exactly what we need and a standby / on-call person to offer relief.
My point was that luckily the relief person was available to temporarily fill a position that is now vacant of a full time person. I'm not trying to downplay this. I'm trying to set the record straight of who all was there.
I agree they were "making it work", which is by definition not ideal.
My goal is to spread awareness that this isn't ideal so that more people are prepared or can take steps to become more prepared. This is a prepping sub after all.
I'm upping my prepping as money allows.
airborneben1@reddit
"Fully Staffed" and "No Overnight Forecaster" = Fully Staffed...
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
They had a temporary overnight forecaster from another area come in to assist. They did not have a permanent overnight forecaster.
I'm trying to cut down on misinformation here.

The scariest thing is it's only May. Summer weather hasn't even started yet.
Maybe someone should together a list of natural disaster warning apps. Fires are my biggest concern and I use an app called Watch Duty that does an excellent job reporting on fires.
WeirdJawn@reddit
I know this isn't for everyone, but any time there's a big outbreak near my or my family's area, I watch live stream meteorology channels and warn my family if something is near.Â
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
Yes yes yes!
Gallbatorix-Shruikan@reddit
Winds are starting up in CA. We might get our fire season early this year. Itâs gonna be a long summer.
MagnetHype@reddit
It's mid tornado season
AnomalyNexus@reddit
I've never lived in a place that is prone to disasters so the US tornado areas just seem wild to me.
How do people recover from this financially to rebuild? Or do they just not? Move elsewhere and next lot of optimistic people take their place?
Can't picture rolling the dice like that.
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately quite a few areas that were hit had pre-manufactured housing.
Usually insurance covers these types of storms.
Yes the communities rebuild. Sure some might move away.
Sometimes the tornadoes hit nearly no one and just effect fields.
jUleOn64@reddit
Did he visit and offer some compassion to the areas damaged?
NatGoChickie@reddit
He can go throw paper towels again
DapperDame89@reddit (OP)
Who's he?
Our Govenor, from my understanding has. Great guy. His name is Andy Beshear.
jUleOn64@reddit
Sorry. The president
LuciaV8285@reddit
Doge cut NOAA. People are dead.
Possible-Series6254@reddit
I'm always saying it, but I'll say it again - the news is not reliable, but other people are. Ryan Hall Y'all, former storm chaser and current weather analyst. He's live on youtube whenever there's interesting stuff happening, he's faster than the news, and he has a large network of people in situ sending him reports during major events like this. Keep that thang (up to date info) on you!Â
