Why pay federal taxes?
4peaks2spheres@reddit
Lol because they'll just garnish your wages. If you got a cash job, don't pay shit though đđ¤đ˝
catnapkid@reddit
I just changed my fee structureâŚ. $1 service + $124 âsuggested tip.â
anony-mousey2020@reddit
In all seriousness, as someone that has always defended that taxes are paid because we derive value as citizens - that value has rapidly eroded thanks to DOGE. Iâm not served by expansion of the military and ICE as proposed in the new budget.
4peaks2spheres@reddit
Expansion of ICE is really fucking worrying me. Pretty sure they're going to expand who they consider "terrorists" to anyone organizing against the feds.
Hekantonkheries@reddit
I mean they've already been normalizing the terminology to their base, just waiting on the executive order now
4peaks2spheres@reddit
đ right, it'll come and even some liberals will be on board saying, "well they broke the lawđ¤ˇđźââď¸". The law is about to get very unjust
Balgat1968@reddit
This red State blue State shit is so stupid. 8% of all Republican ballots cast in the last election in the United States were cast in California. A âblueâ State. More Republican ballots cast in CA than in 10 other red states. He is pissing on millions of Republicans that voted for him. Even more stupid is that MAGAs in CA think what he is doing is great and would vote for him again. âYeah man! Stick it to the blue States!!!â
G34RY@reddit
It's a shame but we're getting what we paid for. We are all in this together. unfortunately half of us think trump is a magical wizard that will make their poverty go away. This is an education and critical thinking problem.
ScribbleArtist@reddit
No, like a third of us. Third couldn't bother to not put a single issue aside or figure he'd be worse on it.
Now it's, how many are too proud to participate in the future, because typically those who don't bother are still more liberal than not. Though what they can offer after making such a shallow call cheered on by grifters and flaky figures who quickly disappeared... not sure.
buggybugoot@reddit
No this is not an education and critical thinking problem. I have spent an inordinate of time thinking about commonalities amongst Trump supporters and the only common denominator is narcissism.
No-Category5815@reddit
no, this is a spoiled child who can't let anyone have anything they don't have themselves problem. stop whitewashing the hate half this country feels for ANYONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES.

While I agree it makes sense to split things evenly aren't most red states in a much worse situation when it comes to infrastructure maintenance / creation? I bet the current split of finances for this still goes further than accounting for that, but the red states definitely need some extra help than blue states generally. Oh no big bad orange man is doing exactly what we voted him in to do! Pedocrats never learn. Working on 10 years of TDS and still havenât changed the playbook.
PerceptionEast6026@reddit
So you voted him to "attack the states that didnt vote for him"?
Is this a normal thing in your cult?
SargentmajorDM13@reddit
Imagine a pedocrat that doesnât strawman and addresses the argument. Yes cut funding to states that will not follow the law, enforce the law, or are blatantly fighting against the law. Why would we fund a program for a state that is actively fighting against getting things done vs. move those funds to a state that will work with us to not just succeed but excel. Ya gut the blue state crooks.
Also one way to tell if youâre in a cult. Disagree. My side if I disagree I can talk to people, we can see both sides, and still be friends after. Now you try. Break script just once. You donât have to believe it just say it to test a theory. Be half assed about it if you want. Well maybe I kinda could see in this specific scenario he could have a point since it is working. Gl with that. Iâll lay some flowers on your grave when they are done with you.
PerceptionEast6026@reddit
"that will not follow the law" which law? They follows the law. Here its just cut funding to the ones that doesnt like him. Same for Harward.
Also you are talking about the states that saves the red ones with their taxes.
" can see both sides, and still be friends after" oh yeah it must be beautiful to be friend after a brilliant discussion on "who is worse? Black people or brown people?" Nah i leave that "friends" to you.
SargentmajorDM13@reddit
Oh more straw manning. Not following the law yes. Like we didnât pass any new immigration law just started enforcing whatâs on the books vs last 4 yrs. Welcome to the era of accountability whether you like it or not. Accountability stings doesnât it. Break the law or refuse to enforce it as your position requires. Straight to jail. Doesnât matter if youâre an elected criminal you get it all the same.
Yes yes everyone who disagrees with you is a racist or something phobe. Donât make a point of any kind just name call like a child. Yes grown ups can have disagreements and not pitch fits, break things or try to kill each other. I know you havenât had a civil discussion in years or maybe ever but when youâre not a bigot itâs pretty easy to do.

especially fucked up when you remember that he ordered that 2 billion gallons of water be released from dams around the sierra nevada foothills to give california âunlimited waterâ to fight the fires.
a huge waste of resources/time/money because that water was unusable due to being 200 miles away from the fires (which were already contained by that point anyway) - and now heâs most definitely fucked the farmers in the central valley area who would have used that water to irrigate their crops
https://www.npr.org/2025/02/07/nx-s1-5287016/farmers-are-worried-after-trump-released-billions-of-gallons-of-water-in-california
cyanescens_burn@reddit
After those fires were out IIRC, and the water was just wasted. I believe farmers were pissed about that too.
inchling_prince@reddit
I fully expect him to turn this on California this summer, nevermind that he ordered the action that cost billions of gallons of water.
johnnybones23@reddit
Really? The same infrastructure mismanaged and failed, resulting in fires not being put out? Or that high speed rail initiative 'under construction'? It is interesting that blue states have an absurd amount of 'regulations' and everything is in the 'planning stage'.
Yeah, turns out that was true. More water could have been pretty useful when the 3rd largest fire in L.A. history is occuring. Who would have thought?!

So how does a state go about redirecting federal tax revenue to itself?
jollytoes@reddit
So blue state residents will still be paying federal taxes, but get no federal benefits. Seems like there's no point in remaining in the union.

All you need to do is go on a community FB page and see they just shift the blame to it being somehow ever the governors fault. âIf we didnât have a lib governor this wouldnât have happened!!!ââŚ.
thefedfox64@reddit
That's the plan. It's been the plan for a while. And it will happen to many of us.
First, they cut programs, then states pick it up, which means more taxes. The higher taxes mean more citizens turn against blue states. Then, more red, more cuts, and more cuts mean fewer services. Less services mean more crime and more disposable people. The more you see, the angerier people get, and thus, it creates a cycle. Then the state turns red.
Like, I'm all for helping people. But a homeless person screaming at my spouse and child at a grocery store parking lot. Fuck no, get that person outta there. Don't let them come back. Get enough people like that, and suddenly being homeless is a crime, and we want them out of our town.

ttkciar@reddit
This is going to have the effect of driving up the disparity between how much blue states pay into federal taxes, and how little blue states receive in federal benefits.
At some point that disparity is going to compel even that hardest cases to support secession, so that our state's wealth can stay in-state, to pay for solutions and services the people of that state need.
NeatBus7120@reddit
Yes, Solutions like the hundred billion dollar train from Palmdale to Gilroy that's taking California 40 years to build.
To put it more bluntly: lots of blue states are blowing money on things they'd never even miss.
Blood_Casino@reddit
I love when conservatives attack center-at-best liberals for their more conservative tendencies without an ounce of self reflection. Your ideology is the problem lol, doesnât matter which party it comes from

??? It's easier for blue states to cut the fat out of their bloated budgets than it is to start a civil war. I don't know why you are taking this so hard. lol.
Blood_Casino@reddit
If Trump is consistent with these initiatives and withholds equivalent funds from red states, especially after tornados and hurricanes tear through later this summer I will be pleasantly surprised
TDG71@reddit
They are paying for things in Mississippi, Alabama, and so on, besides whatever you will be able to bring up.
NeatBus7120@reddit
True, so what? The taxpayers in CA and many other blue states love overpaying taxes. They aren't going to leave the country because of it. They think they are doing God's work, with every paycheck they hand over for a foreign war or for a bridge to nowhere in Alaska.
TDG71@reddit

I would have taken that train literally every day had it been available when I lived upstate, but I'm just one guy so take it for what it's worth.
Furthermore, investing in public transportation should be a priority, and I would be for it even if I wouldn't be a frequent traveller on it. Are there problems? Sure.
Also, the bullet train project is already under construction.
jugo5@reddit
Does not help that the oil barons lobby against anything that puts oil at risk. It is not necessarily "blue states blow money." I think that's a short-sighted statement that ignores a ton of factors, but it sounds good to say, and most people accept it without doing any more investigating. California has a higher GDP than Japan, btw. It's easy to say "blue states blow money," but it's also "blue states" that bring in the most $$$ for the USA. I'm also willing to bet oil companies are fighting legal battles to stop any kind of modern train system, causing the project to stall multiple times and balloon the budget. Google tells me oil companies paid a record $38 million to lobby against the train in just California last year. Kind of crazy how big oil does not want the USA to move into the next century. Id blame big oil more than blue states.

All the things that make California so great and powerful are not all run by Californians. California attracts people from all over the nation.
Cute_Ad4654@reddit
Your point?
People could still move to California even if it seceded.
WoodpeckerLow1943@reddit
I donât think it would quite work that way. Left on its own California wouldnât be near what it is. It needs the talent of the rest of America. If you cut California out you stop the pipeline of talent coming in. All the tech & sports & movie stars are not from California. Quite frankly probably not even half.
Cute_Ad4654@reddit
You realize you can move to other countries right? Like⌠a lot of those âtech & sports & movie starsâ come from somewhere other than AmericaâŚ
WoodpeckerLow1943@reddit

If California secedes, every port would immediately be blockaded and all planes would be grounded with a no fly zone. There is zero scenario where California is just allowed to leave the United States peacefully with its great economy intact.
Same goes for Texas or really any other state.
The only way to break away would be to get the military leadership to carry out a coup. Without naval and air supremacy any succession would just pointlessly destroy that state and it would lose any autonomy it had.
ishmetot@reddit

Every single action he has taken over the last 100+ days in office has been to benefit those who have supported him and hurt those who didn't.
No one is surprised anymore. Drop the act. Stop trying to get people outraged over the latest grift. It's time to be thinking about long-term damage control and remediation.
randomrealitycheck@reddit
Well, as much as it pains me to defend this administration, what you said is not true. Donald Trump absolutely stuck it to Governor Huckabee-Sander for weeks. She had to apply for aid three times (read squirm) before it was approved.
And by no way is that all, Trump ends federal civil rights settlement aimed at fixing raw sewage crisis in rural Black Alabama. He's leaving counties full of his supporters to live in raw sewage where the live and work. It's disgusting.
Smokey76@reddit
I'd argue that the Alabama area is probably a blue area so the red areas around it will shrug their shoulders.

monos_muertos@reddit
You're not going to get that from politicians. This is good cop bad cop politics. I read one small time pundit call it the politics of abandonment. We're in decline, the so called people in charge are acting in ways to protect themselves at the expense of everyone else. Nothing will change that. People need to stop wasting energy on those pretending to be on 'their side', and start thinking locally, and regionally, then acting on strengthening those ties. That will eventually require aggressive populist dismantling of our current failing system and the cancers that remain currently intact, who's primary job at this point is to siphon wealth from the bottom up.
sofa_king_weetawded@reddit
Alot of MAGA think this is exactly what Trump is doing (AKA "draining the swamp"). The problem is they are so brainwashed that they don't or won't look deep enough to realize he IS the swamp and has perfected the grift of politics for personal gain. He is the Putin of the West.
monos_muertos@reddit
This is the problem I'm having. Everyone is so entrenched in cult think, my side vs their side, that any neutral statement is automatically taken as the enemy speech. I see no resolve, only people wanting a mommy or daddy to come and save them. Thus, there is no hope for any continuity of self organization as things fall apart. Those funding Trump's ministry of truth are bankrolling it, while the theatrics of opposition positions itself as the permanent battered wife, abetting their abuser's actions, justifying why the children (public) deserve to be hit, while pretending to be a functional group, while things continue toward to an eventual familicide.
We can keep going through the motions, getting outraged at things long predicted, then waxing partisan solutions we all know aren't going to happen, but this is r/PrepperIntel. These tenured politicians aren't stupid. They're just punching a time card placating to the vast majority of people who want to remain in the denial stage of grief and hope we can return to whatever myth of a nation state we once aspired for.
sofa_king_weetawded@reddit
This is a very eloquent description and right on the money. Can't really add anything to it other than to say it is a very sad state we find ourselves in. I will resist simply by refusing to engage in the insanity.
