It would be interesting to find out and to ask how you've found using social media since it came around
illwrks@reddit
To all the OAP’s that have just outed themselves, be wary of scams and scammers who may now see you as a target.
beefygravy@reddit
Hey it's me, ur grandson
Comfortable-Pace3132@reddit
Hey it's me, your Nigerian prince grandson
You'll never believe what's happened
Former_Jury_4548@reddit
She said she was on contraception. Fuck how much back dated child maintenance do you need to not tell my current wife
Antique-Conflique@reddit
While it's a worthy warning, I don't think the pensioners who have made it to Reddit are typically lacking this kind of awareness.
Life_Is_A_Mistry@reddit
Fully agree. You're a man of good sense and I think I can trust you. For you see, I'm a Nigerian prince...
YoungAtHeart71@reddit
Do you have a big sum of money for me? Maybe money that's hard to access? I'd love to get my hands on it.
opopkl@reddit
I would imagine that any pensioner on Reddit is going to be more savvy than most.
discoveredunknown@reddit
OAPs on Reddit got to be the most tech savvy old farts in the country tbf
PowerApp101@reddit
I'm lowkey 57
themeakster@reddit
I remember when it were nowt but hills round here.
PowerApp101@reddit
Aye, the hills were flattened....wait what?!
Midnightraven3@reddit
"On yonder hill, there stood a coo. It's no there noo. It must have shifted."
KnowledgeSea1954@reddit
It's really gone down hill
Insomniacbychoice90@reddit
I remember a time long gone, forests of free web and the moors of Altavista
Enough-Ad3818@reddit
Aye, that ovver there were all fields.
Free_Spirit_1378@reddit
You were lucky. We used to dream of hills when I were young. It would have been catnip to us.
Expresso_Presso@reddit
Does feeling old count
anotherangryperson@reddit
73 and been using social media since my children started using Facebook. I’m nosy and love other people’s opinions but don’t have much of a social life so the various platforms are good for me.
Martinonfire@reddit
73? You’re old as fuck whereas I’m a youngster of 68.
skdowksnzal@reddit
I smell werthers and tea.
anotherangryperson@reddit
I don’t eat sweets and haven’t drunk tea since I was a child!
snips-fulcrum@reddit
definitely not lol, probably one of the youngest on this subreddit (im 18)
YoungAtHeart71@reddit
Turning 54 this year - don't get me wrong, I feel about 20, but the grey hairs don't lie!
I feel like reddit is my "slightly-past midlife crisis".
ShinyHeadedCook@reddit
I'm 44 and been on social media since myspacs
opopkl@reddit
... and Friends Reunited.
ShinyHeadedCook@reddit
Did anyone ever reunite with friends though, I remember it being pretty shit!
opopkl@reddit
Lots of people from my school year had joined. There wasn't really anything you could do with it once you joined. They were quite restrictive about sharing your contract details with someone you were chatting to. I can remember posting my phone number as something like "noughtthensevernthensev3nthenthr33&fore..." to get round the number blockers.
The_Dark_Vampire@reddit
I had MSN
ShinyHeadedCook@reddit
Me too
sayleanenlarge@reddit
Myspacs, haha. I'm the same age, so I assume you know the typo.
KnowledgeSea1954@reddit
Are the oldies on Reddit all big bird sesame big minge energy rat ta ta ta taaa types
big bird sesame song
UrbanAlly@reddit
In my 50s , Reddit is just a big forum.
imtheorangeycenter@reddit
Second reply: for probably ten years I thought the Reddit link at the bottom of articles was some kind of plugin/tracker that if you clicked it, it wouldn't show you links in other pages to the page you're reading. As in "I've read it, don't bother showing me other headlines/bait to the same article elsewhere and blank the section out".
Should probably make that tbh...
Littleleicesterfoxy@reddit
Yup I often forget it’s a sub and not a fora.
ImTalkingGibberish@reddit
Someone sane
imtheorangeycenter@reddit
Yes it is. And the karma/uovoting stuff is just Slashdot with no extra steps.
HeartyBeast@reddit
Slashdot’s moderation and metamoderation system is a thing of beauty
BottleGoblin@reddit
I was born in the year of our lord 1982, in the dying decades of the last century. I do not expect to be remembered by the history books. Save, perhaps, in a disparaging footnote.
monotreme_experience@reddit
Suspicious_Field_429@reddit
Jeez oh, I was sentry on Victory Gate when you were on Cow and Gate 😂😂😂 Nelson? Never knew him but his father was a c**t
lexington_spurs@reddit
Whippersnapper
LinuxMage@reddit
52, and I suddenly realise that i'm far from the oldest person around. I've been on the internet since 1996, and linux user since then as well.
TheChunkyScale@reddit
19 years old.
Astropoppet@reddit
You might be the youngest person in here so it's going to fall on you to call 999 if one of us has a heart attack, you OK with that?
ZeldaFan158@reddit
I'm 17, happy to take on that duty as well
Any_Listen_7306@reddit
I'm 53, and being disabled and in a small town it's given me a great forum for discussion
TSC-99@reddit
Omg I turned 50 2 days ago and don’t feel out of place replying to this post 😳
Zillywips@reddit
You're a spring chicken
TSC-99@reddit
Thank you 💖🐓
quilp666@reddit
I'm 78 and restrict myself to Facebook and Reddit. Quite interesting but I have other things to do.
HappyCuppiccino@reddit
How did you discover Reddit?
quilp666@reddit
Idle browsing, had a look joined up, still here.
Life_Is_A_Mistry@reddit
I decided to be nosy and look at your post/comments history. Your music recommendations look great!
quilp666@reddit
Thanks. Hearing Rock around the clock in 1955 gave me a lifelong love of music, and a wonderfully misspent youth which I am trying to prolong.
MustardKingCustard@reddit
I'm 3,021 years old. I'm ready to break my silence on the lute.
IWrestleSausages@reddit
Im 96 and a half, or at least i will be in 64 and a half years' time
Jorge-Esqueleto@reddit
56 here. Reddit is just like old daily digest posts of 90s email boards, but all in one place. Social media could have been fantastic, and probably was until it went addictive and toxic.
eastkent@reddit
60 here. My first computer was a Sharp PC-1211 in 1980, then I upgraded to a ZX81. I feel sorry for 'oldies' who refuse to have anything to do with the internet; they're missing out on so much.
Stunt_Weasel@reddit
Same-Shit-New-Day@reddit
I'm 60. Don't use any social media.
Reddit is not social media in my opinion. It's an anonymous forum.
djashjones@reddit
HappyCuppiccino@reddit
Reddit is better because there’s literally nobody you know lurking in the same forum as you so you’re not be watched and observed IMO
DadVan-Soton@reddit
63m.
I dated a girl on Compuserve in the early 90s, when Compuserve was askii characters.
DuoDriver@reddit
ASCII*
DadVan-Soton@reddit
Oops. Thanks.
lexington_spurs@reddit
Random internet bore here checking in to say that the ASCII character 42 is * - the Unix symbol for all/everything hence the hitchhikers guide reference.
DadVan-Soton@reddit
Wow. Was Douglas Adams a nerd? I know he was the first person in the UK to get a Macintosh, so maybe so.
IIRC, the question to life, the universe and everything was “what is 6 x 9?”. The answer of course, not being 42. I loved that twist.
lexington_spurs@reddit
He’d love the current state of AI search.
I googled the reference and found half a dozen authoritative, conflicting explanations for 42 in the book.
Gullflyinghigh@reddit
Approaching 40 and this is the only social media I use or engage with.
blatchcorn@reddit
I am 98
Adam-West@reddit
My Reddit account is 12 years old. I myself am not that old (32)
May_Flower23@reddit
42 yrs
BlackJackKetchum@reddit
Late 50s. I was a very early Facebook adopter, but left that decades ago. Also fora, blogging, usenet, B3ta etc etc. I don’t engage with my real name anywhere.
Quick-Oil-5259@reddit
Friendsreunited. Blast from the past.
BlackJackKetchum@reddit
Sure was - it led to a few conversations with folk I hadn’t been in contact with since leaving school. We’ve managed an inebriated reunion once a year ever since.
WaywardJake@reddit
I'm 62f, and I've been using some form of social media since the 90s. Forums, the predecessor to what we consider social media, were huge for me for years. They provided a place for respectful debate, genuine conversation, and meaningful interaction. Other than Reddit, there aren't many places like that anymore. (And parts of Reddit are seriously iffy.)
Internet discourse has significantly changed since then, and I no longer care for it like I used to. But among my favourite haunts in the 2000s were Windows Live Spaces and Yahoo Message Boards. One went defunct, and the other became riddled with trolls. Twitter was amazing in its beta days, as was Google+. But, as before, one became toxicity central and the other disappeared. There are others, but those were my highlights until Reddit.
Pristine-Account8384@reddit
Office-based engineering. Will continue commuting by bike until I retire at 67.
nothingexceptfor@reddit
44, I’m old enough to have had a MySpace page, I used to use Facebook a lot when it first came out but not for a few years, I still have a the account along an Instagram one but don’t use them, as in I don’t have the apps and not logged in on browsers, I also used to use Twitter a lot back in the day but completely deleted the account once that twat bought it, I have tried a few of the copy sites but none of them really recapture what it once was.
Reddit is the only social media I use now, and been using a for a few years now, I like that it does not care about followers/friends, just about posts and comments, no photos, I like the voting system too
Pooter1313@reddit
OPs mum
Asaxii@reddit
Are you talking about age or how old the Reddit account is?
Imaginary_Desk_@reddit
I am the eldest out of my peers.
I was always a Facebook user but I do have insta, Snapchat and tiktok (yay for having teenage children).
My partner- 6 years younger- got me into Reddit. He and his peers are always on it. I’m now on my second account as became so identifiable on my last one that I was found by an old school friend and could identify another two school friends. Rather than doxx myself further or risk doxxing the two I found, I deleted and started again.
Reddit has been a 5 year learning experience.
louswheel@reddit
I'm a young whippersnapper, (60) who's been on here for 5 years, having defected from FB. I grew tired of FB, and the "look what I've done on holiday" posts, and the random strangers requesting that I'd be "friends" with them..!
Pristine-Account8384@reddit
65M, still cycle to work
MolassesZestyclose96@reddit
What do you work as and how long do you intend to continue to do it?
emdj50@reddit
I'm almost 75 and Reddit is my main SM these days!
Monkeyboogaloo@reddit
Relative spring chicken at 56.
I had a myspace account.
First exposed to the internet when it was world wide web while working at Marconi in the 80s. Started using browsing in 1994 and by 1996 I was selling dial accounts. And then for the next 10 years I worked for ISOs. Then a cloud startup which was called an application service provider before cloud. At that point I was enough of a thing to be asked by Steve Balmer at Microsoft to speak to Steve Elop about delivering the Office Suite online.
So while I started working in a time where records were kept on paper I consider myself closer to a digital native than many of my same age.
untruth-social-6666@reddit
53, only use Reddit and LinkedIn
pm_me_boobs_pictures@reddit
I remember talking to an 80odd year old a few years back about bushcraft stuff on an alternate account
terahurts@reddit
Tbh, I just don't see the point in most of it. I've got no desire to share my every waking moment with the world or to see carefully staged/faked moments of other people's lives. It's not social, it's toxic.
HMSWarspite03@reddit
59m still trying.
beachyfeet@reddit
I'm sure there's lots of us oldies on here. 64f
mkaym1993@reddit
Hopefully it’s not me as I’m early 30s 😂. Interested idea for a topic though so commenting so I can keep track
Princes_Slayer@reddit
My joints feel like they belong to a centenarian…does that count?
