I have also watched many movies set in "the distant future" when they came out in the 80's, and then lived through their future timelines. For example:

Blade Runner (1982) Set in: 2019

The Running Man (1987) Set in: 2017

RoboCop (1987) Set in: Near future, often cited around 2020 in expanded lore.

Escape from New York (1981) Set in: 1997

2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984) Set in: 2010

The Terminator (1984): Future war in 2029 (still to come!), Judgment Day in 1997

Back to the Future Part II (1989) Set in: 2015

Akira (1988) Set in: 2019 (Neo-Tokyo)

I'm sure there's a bunch more, those are just movies I watched back in their day and lived through in real time.

Isn’t it 6 for the people born in 80? The decade doesn’t start until 71, 81, etc. because the 70, 80, etc. is meant to be the 10th year of the previous? It’s like how the millennium didn’t actually begin until 2001.
