Will a Gen Z chime in with their opinion of whether golden age Simpsons is still the pinnacle of comedy, or have my tastes entered boomer humor territory?
The sort of humour that the Simpsons epitomised at its best wasn't really era-dependent, I'd argue. Like a lot of it was just whimsy or absurdity but done very cleverly and therefore original in a way that more formulaic or context dependent humour couldn't be
Everything up til s10 is gold through and through. After that, it gets progressively sloppy. I mean, flanderization did come from the Simpsons.
A newer season of family guy was on the other day and I watched a tiny bit of it. Peter cant be on the screen without there being some joke painfully packed in there somewhere. When it’s just bit after bit after bit, it’s like ‘eh… okay, what else is on’
Homer: “Hello, my name is Mr.Burns, I believe you have a letter for me.”
Postal worker: “Alright Mr.Burns, what’s your first name?”
Homer: “I… don’t … know.”
“Sure, I might offend a few of the ‘bluenoses’ with my cocky stride and musky odours. Oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called ‘City Fathers’ who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about ‘What's to be done with this Homer Simpson’?”

I think that older simpsons is funny when it doesn't do timed references.
I doubt a gen z can recognize a reference to Married with Children, for example.

All that shit went over my head at the time as well, not being American, but it was still funny just because of how it was pulled off

The Simpsons is 98% of the time not funny. It's one of those shows that can only be watched in a funny compilation.

Bro the first 8 seasons are fucking hilarious. But at this point 8 seasons might be 2% of the shows life at the current rate. I ain’t doing no math.
