What are the best jeans for a middle aged man to wear?

45 year old man here, I wear jeans and shirts/tees as my day to day uniform. What are the best mid price (less than £100) jeans? Nothing fancy, just a regular pair of blue or grey jeans. Used to love Banana Republic but can't get them any more. My socials are constantly filled with ads for brands I've never heard of like True Classic and Sulfit....any suggestions...

Personally I wear Levi’s and just keep an eye out for when my size and style is on offer so it’s under £100.
MagicBez@reddit
If you import from levis.com in the states they are a tiny fraction of the cost even after shipping, manufacturing and quality is the same in my experience (having bought many pairs over the years)
...also you can get them adjusted at Levis stores in the UK for a perfect length
Soul-Assassin79@reddit
Even after you've paid the 12% customs fee and 20% VAT?
MagicBez@reddit
They don't ship direct to the UK because of the massive price differential (honestly the price difference is bonkers) so I ship to Delaware (no sales tax) and then get them sent from there.
Even with additional costs it's way cheaper, especially if you get time on a sale
Broad-Attention-6133@reddit
How does that work? Who ships them from Delaware?
Soul-Assassin79@reddit
Alright, thanks.

I will have a look. Thanks

John Lewis regularly do 20% off weeks on Levis - I by them in pairs when they do

I favour a Diesel jean.

Shes Levis girlfriend.

The best ones are the ones that fit. Despite all apparently being the same size like 34L they are not.
Mindless-Annual-7760@reddit
Brax, just bout some really nice, and Gant which I think may be from the same factory, really smart but current
gponter79@reddit
Can’t go wrong with iconic Levi’s in that budget, but make sure you get a flattering fit. Jeans can look awful if they are the wrong shape. Plenty of style guides and advise on YouTube. Or go to a Levi store and speak with staff.

Honestly, and don't laugh.. Tesco F&F stretchy jeans are awesome!!
They feel really good on, look good, plenty of stretch and only about £20.. Absolute bargain!!
I'm not cheap so it's not a case of budget, it's common sense, I don't and never have, succumbed to brands. It's just designers laughing at you with the prices.. £30 tops is all I'll ever pay for jeans. Tesco and Next.. I don't need to buy anywhere else. Spend any more than that and you're nuts.
Runaroundheadless@reddit
Yeh well I used to wear any old Tesco, Asda etc jeans for work. It’s pot luck how long they last. A few months or at best a year. ( think that was tesco. Then I got 2 pairs of severely reduced ( £40. Each) Edwin jeans and not selvage . They lasted at least 5 yrs each. Dyes did not last though. The dye lasted longer than cheaper jeans stitching or knees though. Threads per Inch matters. More TPI better quality higher initial cost. Point is … cost is not always a rip off con. For just day to day I bought 2 pairs of Edwin Selvage at a crazy cost of about £120 each. But they are still blue and almost like new 10+ years later. Sadly I’ve stopped labouring and my waist has gone up 2” in size. I just use M and S at 25 quid a pair but I know they won’t last. I ‘m not young now and I am hesitant to invest in quality in case I get fatter. Haha.

£20 Tesco jeans will have no longevity before they start looking washed out/faded/worn compared to good quality denim at 5 times the cost but will last ten times as long. Also good denim will have a resale value if you get faster. Tesco jeans won't.
I've bought good denim second hand for £30 on vinted that's lasted longer and looked better than new cheap stuff
Runaroundheadless@reddit
Yeh, as the saying goes, “ I’m not so rich that I can afford to buy cheap.”
Content_Display_1328@reddit
I'm a big Edwin fan. Used to wear them religiously when working full time in pubs and they held up fantastically.
Only wear jeans socially now and it takes forever to break them in, used to be 3-4 weeks, but my older ones are comfy as hell
Runaroundheadless@reddit
They are really just old Levi’s. Like stiff and sit in the bath. (Found a pair and I’m not looking for the last 10yrs. Bought ‘em cheap and my son did the comedy break in years ago. Had faith and now they are his favourite breeks. Ha ha. ) Get blue legs etc etc. Just straight legged though. Always. Then there were 501 pre washed. That’s pretty much where a man’s jeans became like suit’s trousers. Just a different material.
Miserable-Ad7835@reddit
Same here, price isn't everything... I have two pairs from Primark that I paid about £18 each for and they still look and fit decent 2 years later.
I had a couple of pairs from Matalan that lasted about 3 years but they must have changed supplier recently and the fit was awful when I looked at getting a couple of replacement pairs.

Levi’s. Get a newish pair off Vinted

ASOS own brand. They do a ton of different fits and sizes. I love their skinny fit. Which is not super skinny, just a nice cut. Plus they are cheap, like £20-£25

At 45 you should start to phase jeans out of your wardrobe and start wearing John Lewis Anyday Relaxed Fit Ripstop Stretch Cotton Ankle Trousers. They do a chord version for the winter.

Why? I'm 52 and wear jeans daily.

I've always found Diesel to be a good cut/fit
Double_Field9835@reddit
52 here. Been wearing River Island straight cut jeans for as long as I remember. Bought a new pair last November, to eventually replace my current older ones from 2018. Their sizing just works for my small (28/30) frame, are solid and fit perfectly, while I hate slim / skinny jeans or anything that clings to my legs. These new ones have introduced some stretch, which might shorten the life span.
mrhippoj@reddit
What sucks about being middle aged is being like a 32 inch waist when standing and a 300 inch waist when sitting down. Next do some pretty stretchy ones but they're still not as stretchy as I'd really like
R_bazungu@reddit
Wranglers 13MWZ. Just can’t beat them for the price. Proper jeans, no dirty stretch material.
C--K@reddit
Wranglers are great. The same quality as Levi's at nearly half the cost

On the Channel 5 show "shop smart, save money" season 4 Episode 10 they try out 3 different makes of Jeans and surprise surprise, the Primark pair came out on top! https://www.channel5.com/show/shop-smart-save-money/season-4/episode-10

wow I forget 45 is middle age. Anyways, I love Levi's 514's. The one with the extra stretch is really nice to handle the dad bod.

M&S jeans are pretty good now for aul' fellas. Source: I'm an aul' fella.

Next jeans very goof quality for the price
osmin_og@reddit
I buy Levi's and Wrangler from Amazon. Figured out my sizing 5-6 years ago and was buying since then.
djdavies82@reddit
Depends on the type of jeans but I tend to go for Wrangler as I find Levi's don't fit me well
vipros42@reddit
Hollister make surprisingly good jeans for good prices.

Levis 501 or 505.

G Star - 3301 are my go to. Plenty of styles and colour to choose from and a wide range of sizes. Often be found on sale too if you keep checking their website.

M&S 360 jeans are very good. £45 a pair I think, the last time I bought some.
I have recently found my old pair of Levi 511’s and I forgot just how comfy these are. Used to be about £80 on offer. Timeless.
Antergaton@reddit
Less than £100? Many Levi are.
Anyway, I still like Gap but harder to get nowadays and Fat Face seem good. Not Next (irony as next now own Fat Face), seem to wear out real quick for me.
Sad-Huckleberry-1166@reddit
I get second hand levi's off ebay. You can get 3 pairs for your £100 and they're always good.
clanshephard@reddit
Next: Loose fit. About £40 per pair. Plenty of room, bit of give in the waist. Loose around the thighs to enable ease of movement, nice classsic shape.
Wild_Cauliflower_970@reddit
It completely depends on your body shape. I've seen men look better in Primark than Levi. You really need to trial-and-error until you find what you like, then pretty much just aggressively stick to that.
markhau5@reddit
Uniqlo, M&S, and Levi’s - all depends on your bodytype and what fit you like.
Wider jeans and super relaxed seem to be in at the moment but I can’t get on board. I prefer a slim or regular fit depending on the brand
