New e-bike user

My dumb ass went 30mph around an unfamiliar blind curve in the dark that was also a big enough hump to block my light. Now I'm sitting in the ER with a ton of road rash and either a broken or sprained thumb. I wore a helmet but otherwise only a t shirt, short shorts, and flip flops. I felt my chin scrape the ground too and the visor broke off but I guess my goatee was enough to protect my chin. Could've been worse but I definitely learned my lesson.

The most effective leaning experiences are painful, expensive, or both. At least ride with close-toed shoes, man! You get a flip flop caught in the crank at the wrong time and place, and you'll get 3 broken toes and/or a TBI to show for it.

I was unfortunate enough to scrape my chin cycling but unlike you my luck ran out and broke my jaw so yes you were lucky to just have a few scrapes and possibly a finger sprain

Always ride with a goatee. In the MSF course they teach most accidents are due to multiple factors at once in play. The more dangers you check off the higher chance of wreck. Here is a parital list of dangers causing wrecks. dark new rider young person no protective gear unfamilar with road speeding bad weather drunk, sleepy, high, tired etc. Recommend take a motorcylce safety course for anyone riding car speeds.
