Saw a baby fox on top floor of house in central London. He scampered off and I can't find him. How do I tempt him out so he can go to back garden?

2130hrs. He's clearly a baby fox. I was upstairs and he poked his head around a corner. He must have come in from the garden earlier when the door was open. The back door was shut when I saw him and I can't find him. I've since opened the back door. I have left multiple bowls of dog food with water in the bowl. If they're eaten I know he's still inside and he's had food and water. Any ideas? Placing calls to RSPCA and left a message for the Fox Project too. I was typing I heard a sound and another fox, a teenager sort of, had come into the house after smelling our dinner cooker. So know I've got to keep an eye on the back door.

Your title said it was on the roof but your description makes it seem like it was in the house? If it's on the roof...leave it alone, it's a fox lol. If it was inside and is now out, then close the door and leave it closed when you're not around. Do NOT feed it food as that will encourage it to come in again. I love foxes but encouraging them to approach humans for food or enter houses is not good for their safety.

I had a cat, that was not one of mine, in my house once. I opened the back door of the house and closed all the doors of all the rooms except the one with the cat, to give a clear path out. I then moved around the room with the cat until I disturbed it and it ran away - out of the door, down the stairs, and directly out of the back door. I recommend the same. In future, be more hostile towards the foxes - don't feed them, talk loudly and aggressively at them if they come near, etc. They think they can come in anytime, and you need to make them less comfortable to come in your house.

They’re pretty smart, I’ve seen juvenile foxes in stupid places. I’d say just let them get on with it. They probably don’t need your help, unless they look mangey or something.

S/he's unlikely to be lured by dog food or water because s/he's probably scared & hiding which is a priority. Your best bet is to leave the back door open and go room by room making a noise and disturbing things; once you're sure the fox isn't in that room, shut the door. Start upstairs and work downstairs and flush them out, making sure you stay away from the door in each room so they have an easy escape route and don't feel trapped.
