Are there any comfy sofa beds for a reasonable price?

Any recommendations for a sofa bed thats comfy (not firm) as a sofa but also reasonable as a sofa bed (for occasional use). I'm looking to buy a sofa bed for a small 1 bed flat, it will be my one and only sofa so want it to be comfortable but could also do with it being a sofa bed for when guests stay. I've been to see some in person but most seemed really firm! There's some online but it feels risky to buy without seeing and I'm struggling to find well reviewed sofa beds where people say they're comfy as a sofa.
Ideally would like to spend under £1500 and looking for a fairly modern style sofa.

I got the koala sofa bed (4th gen) a month ago and it’s been great. Folds out easily and is actually comfy to sit on and sleep on unlike most of the firm pull‑outs I tried

My worry is this is not a great solution for elderly who would struggle to get up from floor

Is it really comfortable? Suitable for daily use,

This thread basically sums up the whole category.
Most sofa beds are built to be:
So when people try to get both for under \~£1k, it usually ends up being a compromise somewhere.
The pattern we see a lot is:
If you’re using it mainly as a sofa → loads of decent options in your budget.
If you want it to work properly as a bed → it’s less about brand and more about what’s inside it.
Main things worth checking:
Those three usually tell you how it’ll feel after a year, not just day one.

If it’s going to be your main sofa and only occasionally a guest bed, I’d be quite picky because a lot of sofa beds are decent at one job and annoying at the other. For your budget, I’d shortlist a few you can actually try in person rather than gamble on an online only buy.
From the replies here, Futon Company, some IKEA options and the Koala sofa bed seem like sensible places to start, but I’d also take seriously the comment warning against assuming every IKEA sofa bed will be comfy. The main thing I’d check is not just whether it feels nice for two minutes in a showroom, but whether the seat depth suits you, whether the mechanism feels solid, and whether it is still comfortable once fully opened. If it’s mostly for occasional guests, I honestly think it’s better to buy a genuinely comfortable sofa first and accept that guests may need a topper or air bed sometimes, rather than compromise your everyday seating too much.
I work in furniture retail at Depot Design in Brussels, and this is exactly the trade off we see people struggle with all the time.

Our Ikea one is very good, and very comfy as a bed and sofa

Which ikea sofa bed do you have please?

I always feel like with a budget that high, its best to split it up and get a couple of different things. Just been my experience that you would expect quality to go up as price goes up, but that’s not really a fact anymore in the post capitalist hellscape we’re in now. So if you have the space, get a loveseat that turns into a sofa bed, then get a U shaped sectional for the rest. Comes with the added bonus that you can obviously move the loveseat around the house into bedrooms too, just seems like a smarter investment. Because the materials every brand uses are very similar, obviously the main differences are in the wood frame, but the upholstering isn’t any different, so there’s always a bunch of options to look at for cheaper buys that last around the same time, durability wise. Hope this helped, ta!

Any joy?

I got a non sofa bed sofa 😅 decided getting a firm sofa bed or spending loads to get a decent one wasn't worth it for the few times I'd use it for guests (sorry guests- air bed it is!). I managed to pick up a decent modern 2nd hand sofa for £100 which was ideal as I'm renting.

Futon Company. Their sofa beds are top tier. Probably got a sale on. Go for a solid birch or oak sofa, can’t go wrong.
occamsrazorben@reddit
Do you mean their ones with a futon mattress? Are they actually comfy as beds or sofas?
WinkyNurdo@reddit
Yeah, the futon sofa beds. I found them very comfy to sleep on, but then I hate sprung mattresses cos I have back pain. They’re comfy as sofas as well.

Most cheap sofa beds are either terrible sofas or terrible beds
BandicootObjective32@reddit
When I moved into my flat I bought the longest sofa I could as I reckon a guest would be comfier on a sofa than a sofa bed. Obviously the issue is when you've got more than one guest and need to start stacking them!
occamsrazorben@reddit
Can I ask which model you bought?
BandicootObjective32@reddit
It was an IKEA Tidafors which is a classic and incredibly sadly discontinued but searching for "Tidafors alternatives" appears to give lots of similar options

Thanks a lot!

DFS Layla sofa. Furnish but I think it's super comfy. We upgraded the mattress to the better type

I'd avoid the IKEA LYCKSELE.
It's a compact 2 seater sofa, which is VERY uncomfortable, but transforms into a pretty adequate bed. We have one in one of our spare rooms it's occasionally used as a bed but NEVER as a sofa.

IKEA do a good one
