Has the radio always been as bad?

My problem with the radio is multifaceted. Even Planet Rock doesn't get it right and i find them to be the best but it can be summed up in one sentence. None of them are about the music. Heart appears to be the worst for this, i can't imagine any radio stations that are even worse. Their formula is 1 minute news, competition, advert, song or two they play every day, adverts, competition talk, song or two played daily, adverts etc. The presenters don't even acknowledge the songs being played. Planet Rock are the best and they even feature a music news section during the news. Their variety is better and the DJs acknowledge what they are playing and talk about the artist. However when it comes to old music they play silly really great stuff, the same goes for new music by older bands (though they need to move forward a bit) however the new stuff they play is largely pretty dull. They will play Judas Priest but not Tailgunner, they will play Motorhead but not Asomnvel. They will play Annie Mac and Elles Bailey and while they are musically competent they aren't very interesting. I often say the best work radio station is Amber Sound (available in the Amber Valley and via any internet radio) because they will happily play The Spice Girls followed by Iron Maiden on their request show (10-2) and outside of that they aren't bad but i wouldn't listen to them outside of work. If i want music, just music, and i don't want to queue up something from my collection I'll put on Rock Anttene Heavy Metal a German station that broadcasts online. They have other genre stations though, the formula is 15 minutes of music, a station ID then 15 minutes of music.
