I mean if video games were his only hobby he probably wouldn't be bored. It's like a gamers dream having unlimited time off at home to just play with no one asking you to do shit.
Nah it gets boring. I don’t have any motivation to play new games and mostly just play the same few games from the 2000s-mid 2010s. I can only play for like an hour or two before wanting to get off.
Same here. I played the ever living shit out of Diablo 2. When I was a teen all I gave a shit about was playing video games and fucking girls. In my 20s a new game would come out and I would try it but it just couldn't hold my interest like my old favorites. Over and over and into my 30s, nothing new was ever good.
Now all I play are Bloons TD6, Satisfactory, Diablo 3, and Diablo 2 mods. All of these are psychologically manipulative to the goddamn gills. I've tried to get into other things. I got a motorcycle license. I attempted art. But it's like drinking a soda after you've been addicted to heroin.
If you find nothing in life seems to stimulate your mind for more than a short period of time, it's possible you suffer from depression, at least working out is helping you manage it though (if it is depression)
I have tried literally every SSRI and SNRI anti depressing in the market. Also every anti-psychotic, mood stabilizer, and cocktail to go with it. I've gone years through the rigmarole of cocktail of narcotics both Opiates, Stimulants, and Anti depression medication.
I've taken all vitamins and all of my minerals, and I'm not deficient in those.
I'm going to be getting a Testosterone test. It may be those sadly.
Kratom is the only thing that works unfortunately.
I'm looking into trying out Low Dose Naxlone (I may have spelled that wrong). It's supposed to restore your opiate system as well as your endorphins which might be the cause of my low energy.
My absolute fucking worst case is trying Suboxone.
How long do you think you've been like this? And have you ever tried Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? You seem similar to me and I'm always hoping that people like us eventually stabilize our mental baseline to a point where we can actually derive meaning from out lives rather than feel numb in all the senses, just slogging through until we shuffle off the mortal coil
Having gone sober off Kratom 3 months, and still working out, being in good weight BMI and eating correctly, I can assure you Kratom is the only thing keeping me awake.
Sleeping 12 to 13 hours a day is not living. Kratom keeps me awake for a few extra hours and makes life worth living.
It is exactly like a coffee stimulant. It will give you energy, however not like Adderall, closer to Caffeine coffee as long as you are taking a low dose of 3.5grams (7 caps if you take pills) to 5.5 grams (11 caps if you take pills).
Higher than 5.5 grams typically will put you to sleep. Also will increase the pain relief effects as well.
Listen I will be real with you, yes you will get high off it the first few times (3 times max), but after that it will just feel like caffeine every time.
I've been taking about 10 grams a day for about 7 years now. I still feel the effects.
My recommendation is to go out and just buy a small 7.99$ 1 oz (30-32 grams) package of green mange da. Remarkable Herbs is a pretty consistent brand. Personally I get powder every time and mix it with Orange Juice Sunny Delight.
Do not listen to any dumb fuck who tells you too "Toss and Wash". It is a stupid fucking technique. Just mix the powder in the cup with O.J like the rest of us in the civilized world.
I know what you mean. I went back to play the Oblivion Remaster, (and even Skyrim as of late) but they feel so flat after being a Destiny 2 junkie for years on end. Anything that doesn't work like Destiny or Fortnite is really hard for me to like now.
Its hard to use the anti nostalgia argument with gaming. Trash was made back then as it is now, but they at least released new titles instead of just the one + MTX cash shop.
It’s not about hobbies, it’s loneliness. If Anon played videogames with others, not online but with his friends at home, he wouldn’t be bored. He would probably feel like shit if all he had to do was drawing alone, playing guitar alone, doing spinning classes alone (peloton and similar things), etc.
Video games are great when you have people to regularly game with or if they're unique artistic experiences.
Vehicle for social connection = good
Escapism and social isolation = probably bad
Experiences and narratives = very good
Basically, don't play turbo competitive online multiplayer games alone. Rather, play coop games or team based games with your friends OR high quality narrative/experience games.
Especially if you work IT/programming. Nothing sucks harder than having to do IT on your gaming pc when you just got off work and you get a BSOD. Get a hobby that doesn't involve screens at all in any capacity.
Ehhh im software dev and I enjoy tinkering/troubleshooting my PC a lot but I don't get to do hardware stuff at my job. Also I haven't had a bsod in years and if you do you're probably not actually that tech literate
Ok and how often does that shit happen? Almost never unless you're building a new desktop or upgrading. He literally said you come home from work and you get a BSOD. That doesn't fucking happen unless you're working on the hardware, using windows ME, are retarded, or really unlucky. Hasn't happened to me in probably 20 years, tho maybe I shouldn't have said tech literate and just said retarded
I feel bad for people that don't have a productive hobby. The thought of only consuming TV and letting the days go by just to leave this world with no works, contributions or awards that you did from your hobbies, free or paid, is terrifying.
Lifting or sprints are good start. The cup shall run dry unless you take advantage of the neurogenesis in the nucleus accumbens which happens when you lift. Dopamine is tied to movement so lifting is one of the only things that boost dopamine longterm aside from cold showers. Without them the only path he will take is one that looks more and more grey, daily. If he can only make one change to his life that he sticks with, let it be this. Even if he's still addicted to vidya it'll give future him more room to choose.
I really dunno if the cup can run dry. The brain is the most adaptive organ we have. Upper limits only really exist when you're considering external sources of chemicals like drugs. And even then... the brain adapts to those to, increasing the upper limit all the time. Like all your other organs will go kaput waaay before the brain does.
I’d prefer to maybe work 1-2 days a week at most to keep things interesting. Other than that I have a ton of other shit planned that I’d rather be doing. Is this an exclusively gen-z problem?
Depends how you define more time working. Working 12h instead of 8h? I for sure don't want that. It is just that being productive in some way is rewarding. I'm not talking here about slaving your life away. If I spend too much time fucking around, it becomes boring. It's good when there's balance.
Workout. Volunteer. Find a girl and start a family. Its literally in your DNA but incels would rather get level 50 on fortnight and ask why they are unfulfilled
Since some of you really struggle to understand this image, let me break it down since I have occasionally felt this.
For one, I work IT, so my job involves me sitting in a cushy office with great temperature control, a 34 inch curved ultrawide, a 27 inch curved monitor, a motorized desk, and reams of technology and nick nacks. My job is literally me solving puzzles all day. I don't even slightly hate my job. I actually like it sometimes.
When I go through bouts of depression, sometimes I like having something to do to distract me. The difference is at home I have to find that inspiration. At work, it's given to me.
This. A bit surprising to read the comments, yes having a computer at home means you have infinite things to do but the problem is when literally nothing satisfies your boredom aka depression.
But I mean with the insane amount of entertainment available these days you don't even need to be alone with your thoughts. Endless amounts of TV shows, movies, youtube documentaries, porn, music and computer games means you literally never have to be at home with your thoughts.
Like I'm pretty social and like going out but I did 6 months of covid lockdowns like it was nothing, literally just endless brainrot feeding myself games, media and jerking off all day every day. It was so chill.
Here‘s to the sad failures whose routine didn’t change much during lockdowns. May we eventually be found before our carcasses start to smell too badly.
I can't understand anyone who could ever be bored at home. You have free time and a million possible interesting things to do, many free or cheap. I could easily sink my entire life's free time into just one Paradox mapgame and probably never be bored.
Part of it might be envy. Sure, many people are content with their work. But there's also many of us who hate our jobs, or even just working in general and would rather be at home doing whatever we want, instead of slaving away for a company we don't give a shit about.
the problem is that anyone who works on self-improvement will eventually not want to be a neet because its boring af not contributing anything to society
People have been taught to be submissive so that governments can tax them to death.
I know so many people that think life is only about working, so when they have free time by themselves they have no idea what to do. No hobbies, no other joys in life unless it's about spending money to buy more things that will keep them happy for a weekend. Then they complain about how weird other people are that don't buy a shit ton of things to be stay in debt and enjoy doing simple things in life.
My favourite, and the best to start with, is Europa Universalis 4. You could wait for EU5, but so far it seems quite a bit more complicated. I'd go with 4 (also really cheap now), jump in with a YouTube tutorial, then just play around and experiment with stuff.
theres is this feeling that youd want to do something but you just feel that you dont have the time to do it properly (eg learning how to play any paradox game) and instead of half assing it you just end up doing nothing instead. hate it personally
I get that. But there's lots of half-assed intermediate solutions until you can summon up the energy for a real activity. Like I could easily spend time entertained by idly watching EU4 streams or whatever.
Eh, sometimes it's awesome, sometimes I'm sick of what I'm doing and can't find anything that scratches the itch.
But that's when I go for a walk, bike ride, gym, go shopping etc. It's often still a little boring, but I'd take it over work 100 times out of 100.
I know right? Anon should visit his local superstore. You can find duck tape and rope in the DIY section and knives in the home section. Best part: chloroform can be found in common cleaning supplies.
You need a third place, somewhere outside of just work or place. People used to have this as a given in the past, your grandparents went to church, had coffee with neighbors, fishing, hunting. Having your life based on just two locations, one where you work, and other where you live will make anyone crazy.

Anon desperately needs a fucking hobby, literally anything.

Anon should get a gym membership or get a hobby the gets him out

Who the hell wants to go to work because they're bored at home? A bad day at home is still better than a good day at work.
