If you have an Arab or Muslim neighborhood in your city you can probably find a locally produce hummus at a Middle Eastern or Halal grocery store. They also have other delicious stuff there.
I wasn’t aware either and then went down a rabbit hole and learned PepsiCo owns Sabra so they’re also complicit in this shit - https://www.fooddive.com/news/pepsico-buys-rest-of-sabra-obela-brands-for-244m/733713/
I stopped buying Sabra with the boycott and just started buying a tub from my local shawarma place when I want some. It doesn't last as long but it's sooo much better.
Don't worry dude, all you did was exchange money for a product. Anything else unrelated to hummus that the company chooses to do has absolutely nothing to do with you
I’ve only found it at Whole Foods but cedar hummus is by far the best hummus I’ve ever had from a store. No idea Sabra was cancelled but would recommend the above
Its worth noting, while I think boycotting Sabra is fully justified (fuck Netanyahu and the IDF), its a PepsiCo product, so if your gonna boycott effectively, boycott every brand and product listed here:
Look I understand the point that you're making but boycotts must be targeted and that means following along with other people who are also taking part in the boycott.
Which is why it is recommended to follow the BDS boycott.
If you wish to boycott pepsico along with coca cola, by all means please do. You're a better man than I, I need some diet soda so stave off the cravings. But please bring people's attention to the boycott list that a lot of people are following, in order to have MAXIMUM impact!
Neither CocaCola or PepsiCo, including Sabra are on the BDS list anymore. Sodastream, which is owned by PepsiCo, is still on the boycott list. Strauss sold their 50% share in Sabra to PepsiCo making PepsiCo the sole owner as of last year. Sabra was removed after that, I assume because PepsiCo is not continuing the practice of giving to the IDF. Most people just kept boycotting Sabra anyway, either out of habit or because of the name. But PepsiCo did act as a willing partner in the whole thing for decades. So, like I said, if you want to boycott them, I get that.
BDS does recommend boycotting Amazon, however, on its "Pressure" list, meaning you should boycott anytime there are reasonable alternatives. Given how many retailers use Amazon's online infrastructure (AWS), even through their own websites, GL even figuring out how to find reasonsble alternatives. Reddit uses AWS btw.
Not sure if BDS recommendation actually extends to AWS, but if it does, that boycott alone eclipses everything else they recommend boycotting. AWS is the product they are boycotting because of, though, (Amazon launched an AWS Isreal) so I would assume that the intent is to boycott AWS.
Do what you will. I'm not really judging anyone. I get people feel the need to do something in the face of a genocide in order to feel less powerless. I just find the specifics of some of the boycotts people do perplexing. We're both still here on reddit, so I guess neither of us is boycotting AWS.
Oh that's interesting, I didn't know coke was taken off the boycott list. Thanks for letting me know. I'm sorry if I came across as trying to disagree with you. I was operating from the framework of thinking coke was bds but pepsi wasn't!
All, good your fine. I think other people read it that way more than me, and my initial comment might have come off more shamey than I intended. I didn't come to shame anyone or start fights. Just interested in how people choose what to boycott.
Nah, thats litterally anyone who boycotts. Trust me, I'm sure we can find something you should be boycotting but aren't because your life would be miserable. I sure wouldnt pass the purity test. Thats not what I'm trying to say. Just be self aware of the gaps in your boycotting, and do your research. My goal was only to inform.
Big corporations are like hydras. I'm guessing Sabra will be rebranded when Pepsi thinks the timing is right, since its widely reviled now. That doesn't mean PepsiCo will stop making hummus and supporting genocide.
Oh perfect being, allow myself to explain my filthy mortal self. We mortals need to put our group powers in a focussed direction, holy one. Only then will a boycott have the full weight of the mortals behind it
As a fellow generic brand purchaser, I feel obligated to regurgitate in less detail the vague idea that I may have once read somewhere that many generic brands are often made in the same facilities by the same companies as the big selling brands! Take that with the largest grain of salt you can find because my memory sucks and my lack of focus prevents me from backing up my barely remembered “facts” with my own research. Either way, it’s good to see that list of PepsiCo products because I had no idea they produced all of those, now I know what to avoid!
It would make sense if that was true (I know that's kind of Aldi and Trader Joe's deal). At that point I'm just gonna use "we live in a hellscape society" as a cop out because... I can't grow my own food to further avoid supporting shitty companies.
Never said it was the end of the world. I just always found it odd people boycott only Sabra. Aquafina, doritos, quaker oatmeal, etc all put money in the same hands.
magicpussydreamgirl@reddit
i didn’t know people actually ate sabra hummus willingly
Sudden_Purpose_5836@reddit
market dominance. no other brand on the shelf at major retailers. also, theres really nothing wrong eith it. it tastes fine.
ItsOKtoFuckingSwear@reddit
There’s nothing wrong with it. I buy it and eat it weekly. It’s not disgusting, and it’s completely edible. These people are exaggerating greatly.
wacdonalds@reddit
It's inedible once you've tasted good hummus
Intelligent_Ad4495@reddit
It’s fucking disgusting. It used to be edible.
TheRateBeerian@reddit
I can't tolerate it after going to the Lebanese restaurant in town that makes their own, the difference is multiple orders of magnitude
Intelligent_Ad4495@reddit
It used to be ok but now it has a weird bitter taste.
MrCockingFinally@reddit
I mean, there's the brand called a can of chickpeas and some tahini and fucking make your own. It's really not hard.
Repulsive-Tiger-9795@reddit
REAL ASF. Why is it so fucking bitter??

Named after a massacre of course it’s bad taste 😂

Quite an interesting turn the taters have taken.

Make your own! It’s really easy and it tastes 100x better than store bought hummus.

I mean you might aswell boycott Microsoft, Amazon, Google, intel, ibm, meta and Apple since all have huge R&D centers in Israel.
Most people choose to boycott what is easy not what makes an impact.
