I read a lot, particularly specular fiction, and I decided to look into some female authors and I was weirded out by what I found.
Romantasy has become so popular in the last few years and it is almost exclusively written for and by women. The relationships are almost always questionable or unusual.
These romantasy plots tend to be about the woman wanting a man who can take away all her responsibility for her, while male written fantasy books tend to be about the protagonist achieving greatness through their own hardship.
The best romantasy book I've read was by a guy: Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. Actually believable characters with believable chemistry with goals and ambitions.
None that I have read. But I do know that Fourth Wing, a really popular book going around rn, features a protagonist who bonds to a dragon. By being bonded, they share each others' emotions. At some point, the dragon is off somewhere else getting laid with another dragon and that makes the protag really horny.
since there is some factual and heterosexual in here, I'm gonna cook up some fake and geh

It's a massive theme in Hallmark movies and the Notebook is one of the most famous romance movies of all time and it's straight up a lady cheating with a guy who threatened to kill himself if she didn't go out with him.
This worked back in 1990 to 2000 rom com movies. Now though it's all superheroes and franchises. Probably for k dramas though since chaebols owned the movie/show industry, legal offices, and insurance companies. S. Korea really is a dystopian capitalist nightmare if you think about it.
I just wish the movie continued after the woman settles down with the new guy and realises that leaving your life behind for some random guy you just met is an awful idea as it turns out she couldn't truly know what he's like in a few days. She ends up depressed as he's now "different" while her ex moves on with someone better and every day she regrets ruining the life she once had
Why the fuck would anyone want to cheat on a good partner. I've been in a relationship for a bit over 2 years and it's literally so easy to not do that.
Trying dating apps again sounds like literally the worst time ever
Some people are a really good match except sexually. If one person wants it far more often than the other but can't get it, they might do stupid shit to get their fix. Also, some people just want to have their cake and eat it too.
and also if you want to pursue another women and you decidedly want to leave your current partner and get with someone else, don't wait until your next relationship is confirmed
so many people think its okay to do this just because it makes practical sense
You see, that's the thing that should be done irl. I don't think the movie would be just as interesting if it was just about a person who leaves a relationship and gets into a new one. Maybe it could work, but I think it wouldn't be the same kind of a movie.
In a similar way I wouldn't like for earth to be invaded by aliens, but I enjoy movies where earth gets invaded by aliens.
Just sucks that many people learn much of their social behavior from movies and drama shows, and those plots always hinge on the protagonists doing everything in their power to miscommunicate. I bet more than half of all movie plots would disintegrate if the main characters sat down for a 5min grown up talk at some point in the beginning.
yeah thats the ideal irl situation, but it also removes the bit of craziness in love and romance that makes a story good. adds a little bit of extra drama.
Yeah dunno man, all of the romance stuff I actually like are about the development of a relationship between people, not about soap opera drama stuff.
"Oh but I love him so much!" is interesting maybe the first 3 times. It's the same repeated story all the fucking time and the twist is always that.
I find much more in a story like Jane Eyre where the identity and story of the protagonist life are interesting on their own, with her struggles through life and the social enviroment that surround her.
"But muh that's a 1800s classic who cares". Good argument, it's not my fault if shit like this peaked back in 19th century with this novel, Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights lmao
Leaving a relationship is costly, even if it’s not a divorce. But especially so if it is.
The new relationship is not a sure thing. But the costs associated with breaking up are.
In an online forum, it’s easy to tell people to end their relationship because the costs aren’t clear and you’re not paying them anyway. But in real life it’s different.
Correct, sometimes doing the right thing is hard. If you can manage to justifying wronging someone because it makes your life easier, fine, but don’t try to convince anyone that you’re the good guy.
Yes. And when advising or judging someone about the moral implications of their decisions, you should also acknowledge the level of difficulty or sacrifice involved in the decision.
Why should anyone give you brownie points for the difficulties of undoing a commitment you yourself made? Especially when it’s probably going to be harder for the other person in the relationship. “oh, I can’t believe I’m suffering the consequences of my own actions!”
I wouldn’t say calling people out on cheating, or saying that they need to accept the consequences of their choices, is unjustified, but you do you, mate.
I think that's really atarting out on the wrong foot. If she left someone to be with you, she'll definitely leave you to be with someone else when the chance comes along.
The normalization of cheating in media is genuinely terrible, especially in today's day-and-age where people associate with the entertainment they consume.
They always have the chick leave her wealthy hardworking husband for the deadbeat that never left his hometown because he has more time to pay attention to her cuz he works 20 hours a week
They always say, "write about what you know", and because of that we have an overabundance of stories centered around bored housewives considering adultery
I mean "bored housewife" as a generic term for middle aged women going through midlife crisis. My mother has a job yet exhibits similar aspects and personality traits to that of the archetipical bored houswife, for instance.
To have income and independence. Being taken care of sounds nice when your partner is a good looking hunk with a charming personality who rakes in cash. Not so much when they're....not that. Rather than get stuck at home or with some douchebag, women would prefer to work, socialise, and pay for themselves doing the things they want to do.
are women really happy spending their most active and fertile years sending emails? Plus, from what you say, the real problem sounds to me like it's women having unrealistic standards regarding men...
And you think men are happy doing the same? If you're lucky, you'll end up with a career that's fulfilling at a place where it's fun to work. If not, tough fucking shit. You still need to do that to have money to live.
Many guys would also love to not work and be taken care of by a big titty goth Onee-san but that's an unreasonable expectation. Does that mean a guy should settle for staying at home with an okay-ish looking woman who works the cash register at the local supermarket, having no income and no say? Of course not. So would you ask the same of the other sex?
The premise of their comment was - the ones who stay at home are bored with time on their hands, so they spend it writing scripts. I’m just saying, making the switch between who has time on their hands.
These stories keep coming from people that settled for their college sweethearts and didn’t realize the world of potential partners out there that they could have gone for… hmm…
"Lets make the love interest's boyfriend a shitty person so the audience doesn't feel bad about the main character encouraging his love interest to cheat on her partner"
I really hate that trope its so stupid, it feels like the story was written by someone who actually cheated.

I think the overuse of the concept romance has led to its conflation with feel-good love. romanticism at its roots arose from a rejection of the rationalist mentality of the post-enlightenment world.
romance is at its core a confrontation with yourself against the current of logic, no? so abandoning your life to third-wheel with a married person in a doomed relationship is pretty romantic, no?
Yes, completely true. But romanticism in its core is about longing for an idealised version of the past. That's why it started in the 19th century where a lot changed very quickly in societal, economic and political aspects. People thought the world used to be better (something that's actually present in all historical times) and later on in the (mass) media of the 20th century it started to get used to refer to love and relationships.
It basically is a "grass is greener" idea superimposed on love and relationships and got further exacerbated by social media in the 21st century.
