Is it actually nice to live on Hawaii long term?

short answer: no not really. i went to college there and had a great time but living there is sooo different from visiting. the longer answer is that it really depends. i like going to the beach but not enough to go every day or even every weekend. the people i know who are from somewhere else but love/loved living there went to the beach like every day and were almost always hippies and vegans and the like. they also almost always have a rich parent or an OF account or who knows what bankrolling them. everything in hawaii is incredibly expensive. my junior year of college i lived in “low income housing” with some roommates. only people considered “low income” could live in the apartment complex. at the time “low income” was, i’m not kidding, 100k a year or less. i bought a single bell pepper for $4.50 once. the weather is great obviously but eventually, after 100+ days in a row of 80+ degrees it just starts to feel oppressive. like anywhere there are a million reasons why living there sucks but there are a million more as to why it’s great. it just completely subjective. i loved my time there but was happy to leave.
