In early overwatch I made a friend who was around for a year because we crouch spammed at each other in the pregame lobby and got him in the next game on the opposite team. Was a cool dude.
I seem to have the opposite curse. I make casual friends with someone in a game. They eventually bring one of their friends around, and somehow, like clockwork, me and that friend gravitate towards each other and become extremely close, and the original person fades into obscurity for the both of us.
You still can, dude. People just aren't as social as they used to be and games themselves also aren't as social as they used to be. They've been streamlined into just playing the "game" while not worrying about user experience.
Most people who just wanted to have a chatroom realized you don't need to spend $15/month to sit in Trade all day and chat with other hopeless losers, you can just get on IRC/Discord for free.
Anyone that says anything fun is just banned. Once that blizzard exec got called out for raping a subordinate, that caused her to commit suicide, they went mental. Huge crackdown on all their games, censoring everything and banning unnecessarily. It was all a show to say look how reformed we are. It never recovered from that. We lost a lot of good men to curse words and dirty jokes. Eat shit blizzard
I think a big thing (part of people being less social) is that back in the day people would meet each other and play together just to hang out or try connecting with a stranger. Nowadays whenever strangers get together in a game it's more or less a transactional all business relationship. talk only out of necessity, and once the activity you are doing together is done, everyone will immediately leave until the next meeting or if it's a one time thing or the last time meeting you will just never see or speak to each other again.
I notice it a lot playing MMO's and raiding. People can spend hours upon hours, multiple days, and multiple weeks, playing together and not ever interacting outside of raid and when the goal is accomplished even after spending potentially 100 or more hours with 1 group of people and and never even considering getting to know them more. 90% of people will simply just vanish after doing 1 group together. and it becomes a cycle of filtering in and out of groups and nobody ever sticking together long term because people just don't want to put themselves out there to potentially make a long term friend.
It's not impossible but it's definitely digging for needles in a haystack to form a long term social connection through games these days.
It's because of matchmaking. You just get shuffled off into another lobby immediately.
Even in games where you don't, people end up with that mentality because it's what they experience most of the time. A lot of people just do irl friends only now.
A year or so ago, I wanted to play TMNF. Got the game and people on the first server I joined invited me to their Discord.
We're still friends, they're cool, even though some mild clan drama that I didn't even know happened made a couple people leave.
I have nothing against them, I liked challenging one of them on becoming the first place on the leaderboard from the wrong end, because we both sucked on tech. Well, I sucked at everything, but that's besides the point.
Half a year ago I got into Arma 3 KoTH. Found a couple chill guys that we used to snipe with, but they don't have time to play anymore. Sucks I wasn't really helpful to them because my favorite activity was flying people out to the battlefield.
6 years ago (holy shit, really??), I was playing EVE Online. I was a brand new player and got roped into a brand new corporation. What followed was one of the best experiences I've had in anything, because it was so cozy and we had no issues covering each other's butts.
Didn't last long, though. Unfortunately for us, the guy who initially invited me, the CEO, left to take care of his family and gave power to somebody related to industry iirc, which we didn't mind, but we were sad to let him go. Then sadly, within a month two of our people die.
After that, I didn't see a lot of reasons to play, but before I quit, we did get into defending a large region of space and I had participated in an 800-player battle.
Nothing wrong with using an abbreviation. And he used it right too. He meant "this shit" and that's what it's stands for. If he had said "this" then I would've gotten mad too cuz that's not how it works.
You and everyone else going through puberty. Just remember; the internet remembers, sending out your dik pics is CP, wrap it up, and you aren’t that good at driving yet.
