Law Enforcement trade in
mtbmaniac12@reddit
Not a good deal. Glock 17 gen 5 for less than 50 more. Or m&p 2.0 9mm for about the same price
ThurmanMurman907@reddit
where the hell are you seeing m&p 2.0s for under 500 bucks
CologneGod@reddit
Gunbroker lol saw a 1.0 go for $160
mtbmaniac12@reddit
I posted the link in this thread. You can get sub 400$ non le guns on gunbroker all day long.
BuildBreakBuild@reddit (OP)
Link to both?

289 but half moon cut if you care about that. Still in stock. Bought my 17 the other day from them lol.
fourleggedpython@reddit
What's the half moon cut?
dovahbe4r@reddit
A semicircle or “half moon” shaped cut at the front of the magwell to assist in ripping out a mag if needed. The addition of it was controversial and was removed on the later gen 5s.
fourleggedpython@reddit
is there a reason it was controversial? seems like it could be covered with a flared magwell or something like that
dovahbe4r@reddit
I've never shot one but I guess it could pinch your hand when firing/reloading or whatever. Believe it was an FBI requirement that Glock decided to include in the general public gen 5 release.
A magwell can cover it just fine, but some people aren't big on magwells I guess.
fourleggedpython@reddit
Fair point. Thanks for the info b
dovahbe4r@reddit
Rock on.
BuildBreakBuild@reddit (OP)
Thats where I got the 299 gen 5 from. Late gen tho.
dovahbe4r@reddit
Yep, we got the same one then.

Depends on what you want.
I got the .40 because I wanted a 357 and 9mm. Getting the 40 allows you to do that with just a couple conversion barrels and 9mm mags.
Recoil spring swap for 9mm recommended, but not absolutely necessary for range use.
Either way, $270 for any of the big name strikers is basically free imo
mtbmaniac12@reddit
Except you can get 9mm pistols for $30 more. 357 sig is a cool idea but in reality is not much better than 9 or 40. I’m not sure why you’d want to swap one pistol between rounds…
ghablio@reddit
If your only context for a handgun is self defense against other humans, then the advantages of any cartridge is going to be minimized.
mtbmaniac12@reddit
I mean I’m not sure what else you’re using a 9, 40 or 357 for… if using a handgun for animal defense, get a 10mm or larger
ghablio@reddit
There are smaller animals than grizzlies that are large enough that 9mm harcast does not provide adequate expansion. And some of us don't want the larger and heavier frames.
Like I said, if your only standard is self defense using the FBI standards, 9mm is pretty hard to beat, but that's because the penetration is so limited with anything under 12" in gel being considered inadequate, and anything over 18" being considered too much. So any modern loading for any cartridge will sit somewhere around 16". Essentially all you're optimizing for is mag capacity and recoil at that point, because they all have essentially the same expansion as a percentage of original diameter.
But look at the extreme ends like the +P hard casts from Corbon and Buffalo Bore. 9mm really isn't even close to what the other two can do because of the higher weight to frontal area of the bullets.
Sure 10mm can do everything .40 does... Except for fit in standard size frames.
You mentioned earlier that you don't know why someone would want to swap calibers in one gun. Largely, because I can. Also, for what this specific gun is used for, I don't want to buy multiple, I'd rather swap to a 9mm barrel if I just simply want to shoot soda cans with cheap ammo, 357 for shooting small groups (I've found it suited better for target shooting than 9mm and 40 personally, mostly just preference) and generally when I'm out hiking it's set up for .40 (although sometimes I'll keep it 357 for this as well).
My CCW is a G43x if it matters. Like I said if you limit your use case to one specific set of criteria, of course the advantages of different cartridges will seem small. But when you push them to the extremes you'll see why one is better suited to different uses.
The reason those calibers aren't more common is because most people want guns for self defense, relatively light recoil and they want cheap ammo. 9mm does all that fairly well
mtbmaniac12@reddit
You cannot convince me that 40 s&w outperforms 9mm against game that is too large for 9 but 10mm is overkill. You’re just talking out of your ass and creating hypothetical problems to justify shooting non standard calibers. There’s a reason every major le organization has dumped 40 and 357 sig for 9mm.
KnightsLetter@reddit
Perhaps an armadillo outbreak? Fishing somewhere with very small sharks????
ghablio@reddit
It's probably good that I didn't make that claim then, isn't it?
The reason is exactly what I said it is. If protection against humans is your only criteria, then you're really weighing recoil and mag capacity because almost all calibers can be made to meet the FBI standards with modern bullets
No, you claimed that paying more money for a 9mm is a better deal for everyone and there's no reason to go with 40. I gave you the reasons why you might want a 40. It's fine that they aren't valid reasons for your use case.
akmjolnir@reddit
Who the fuck wants 9mm?
mtbmaniac12@reddit
If you want 40, more power to you. But this is not a good deal.
JayPee-8055@reddit
Any sites with G26.3 or G27.3?
mtbmaniac12@reddit
I don’t know of any. I’d check gb. Probably deals there!
JayPee-8055@reddit
All good. Thanks for the tip
StoryOk3356@reddit
No interest in a 40. If I had to, I’d take this over any Glock all day.
BrownRebel@reddit
During the pandemic, 9mm sold out everyday. Shelves had 40 for days.
StoryOk3356@reddit
Yeah. I dot. Find it fun to shoot and the ballistic advantage is negligible. I’ll stick with 9mm and continue to stock pile it. I’m good.
mtbmaniac12@reddit
Ok. I just don’t think a 40 m&p is a good deal unless $200. And even then
BuildBreakBuild@reddit (OP)
Any particular reason?
mtbmaniac12@reddit
40 is dead. Unless you shoot a ton of 40 and have a big stockpile of ammo, everyone is better off with 9 over 40
StoryOk3356@reddit
It’s a quality firearm that’s proven itself. Caliber aside, the durability and quality of it are worth sub $300. Just like Glock.
mtbmaniac12@reddit
I love m&p 2.0. But I wouldn’t pay over 220 for a glock or m&p in 40.
Alcalasan@reddit
Someone once told me that .40 S&W stood for .40 Slow & Weak.
It makes me chuckle to this day.
Wristlockpick@reddit
Any of you psychos run one of those 357 SIG barrels in one of these? Do you still have all your fingers?
LiberalLamps@reddit
Read that as MP40, and my heart skipped a beat before I realized how stupid I was being.
existenceispaiinn@reddit
Your comment made me shit my pants because I only read “MP40” and broke my eyes rereading the title again
Bloozpower@reddit
It's been a while since I've been to Gundeals.... but isn't stupid the modus operandi for this whole sub?
LiberalLamps@reddit
Not stupid, just poor.
Common_Nerve6056@reddit
Same lmao. Almost shit my pants
sickels61@reddit
Surprise surprise they only give you 1 mag........
