Are they all 5.56? You can’t check without clicking on each barrel and reading the description.
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Yes
wormraper@reddit
Sionics barrels are green mountain barrels (for their standard, I know they have a premium but I can't remember where they source them from) that they MP test and radiograph (instead of more destructive testing)....good duty grade barrels that work well. I have about 5 or 6 of them in complete uppers and would say they're more accurate than my BCM ones (though not AS accurate as my DD ones)
Both_Ad_694@reddit
I think they have a different profile contour than GM standard barrels?
But don't forget the beautiful feedramp polishing, QC on fittings and widest range of gasport hole sizing options. Great personal customer service and mil/vet discount.
Criminally underrated best buy barrels/uppers.
wormraper@reddit
I think you're right. or at least they have a model with a different contour than the standard GM profile for one of their barrels. I'd have to look at them more to remember lol.
but yeah, they're a solid under rated builder. I live local to them and have WAAAAAAAAAAY too many fully built Scionics rifles, uppers, lowers and barrels lol
Both_Ad_694@reddit
Hah they are the best plain janes. DD quality, BCM reliability and best for supressors. The trusted hot meal making girl next door you pick over the pretty debt headache.

it probably would be more impressive if it was Wyrmraper... but hey
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Bruh ain't nobody trying to get eviscerated for some Wyrm bussy.
wormraper@reddit
but think of the bragging rights
LiberalLamps@reddit
Any idea how they stack up against kak? They also have a 12.5 mid barrel.
wormraper@reddit
apologies, i have no experience with KAK other than their Chrome Silicone buffer springs and their buffer extensions. I hear good things though.
texrygo@reddit
Move fast if you’re thinking about the 12.5” reduced gas or silencer dedicated barrels. Those go fast and stay gone awhile.
tf1444@reddit
take note, reduced gas and silencer-dedicated will not work with most flow through suppressors
Both_Ad_694@reddit
Did you try different buffer weight/spring combinations?
tf1444@reddit
Sure did. All the way down to A5H0
Both_Ad_694@reddit
Good to know, I don't have any flowthrough cans.
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Reduced will almost certainly work with the majority of low back pressure cans. They don't eliminate back pressure completely and even the best still increase bolt speed measurably. The reduced will generally run fine with full power m193 and a carbine buffer including locking back in empty. They'd be perfectly good to go with a LBP can.
tf1444@reddit
negative. The reduced gas is the most extreme version. 12.5 only comes in standard and extreme reduced gas. Can confirm as I had to send back to Sionics for them to open up the gas port to run a KAC MCQ
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
No, it's not the most extreme. The most extreme is the Porter's Basement x Sionics 12.5
tf1444@reddit
Per Sionics own website you have two options: extreme reduced and standard. We aren’t talking about a specialty run for a small shop.
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Ok
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Yep. Grabbed my 11.5 SD prior to posting.
simonnn666@reddit
So I was looking at buying a 11.5 barrel from Sionics last week, for my first "SBR" build. Planning on running full time suppressed. I messaged Sionics to get help with choosing which barrel would be best. I typically just run a regular barrel and an adjustable gas block. However, Sionics said they would never recommend an adjustable gas block. Well, i never got a reply then which barrel I should choose with my Rex 224 suppressor, and what exactly would be the optimal setup. I like to run a verity of ammo, because I'm a cheap bastard and I already have a G$ braided flat wire h2 buffer setup.
I personally like the idea of having an adjustable block to get it running the best I can in combo with buffer weights for a combo of different ammo, then just leave it alone. So, I ended up getting the regular 11.5 barrel and another SA adjustable block.
Did I make the wrong choice?
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Rex 224 is a traditional high back pressure can. You should get the silencer dedicated barrel as a full time host.
Both_Ad_694@reddit
Agreed. That SD 12.5/high back pressure is peak level gas operation.
That standard is great too if you want to max duty level reliability
simonnn666@reddit
Okay but why the suppressor one vs the extreme reduced model? And will this actually run well without any more tuning of the gas system? Sorry, this is my third suppressed build, and like I said, I always used an adjustable block
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
SD because the rex is a traditionally baffled 5.56 can. It produces a lot of back pressure so it'll be reliable even with the smallest port. Smaller port = less gass to the face, less carbon going in to the receiver, longer bolt lock time, etc. The ERGP will work fine but, with that suppressor, os still gonna be a little over gassed.
simonnn666@reddit
Gotcha. Thank you for that information. So my last question is, why is doing that barrel better than just using an adjustable block. Is it just a reliability thing?
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Yes, reliability.
simonnn666@reddit
Thanks homie. You a real one.
slammedsam2k@reddit
This or hold out for a Centurion 11.5 fbi?
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
I've had both and I genuinely prefer the Sionics but the big selling point for me is the SD barrel. If you're going standard port then it's just down to which profile you prefer.
slammedsam2k@reddit
It will definitely be suppressed 100% of the time. Iv got a polo-k or a full size print xh. Wonder if the print xh would be too low back pressure for reduced port?
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
If you want to switch between the two I'd go with a reduced port instead of SD. That'll definitely work well with both. If you wanted to do a dedicated suppressed with just the Polo-k I think the SD 11.5 is the best barrel available for that. I think these barrels are at least as good as Centurion and for a slightly better price so they're a better value overall.
MulticamTropic@reddit
What’re your thoughts on the 12.5 extreme reduced port with a Polonium K?
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Solid choice but for the polonium I'd actually wait for Porter's to restock their 12.5 SD barrels. Smaller port than even the ERGP. That's what I've currently got with a polonium-k. Had a FSB put on by JT at Retro Arms Works for a mini-dissy.
tyraywilson@reddit
How do you know it has a smaller gas port? From what I've read it seems like they are the same. The descriptions are the same for the 12.5 middy ERGP and the "SD".
Both_Ad_694@reddit
I have 11.5=.051 and 12.5=.053 in my notes but it's been a while
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
Here's the info directly from Ports' site;
slammedsam2k@reddit
Right on! I really appreciate your input!
Yeeterskeeter690@reddit
Is your Print XH an SRBS? If so I’d get a standard port barrel if it’s a traditional like the Rotex Print X like I own you’ll want an extreme reduced. My full size Print X is fairly gassy.
slammedsam2k@reddit
Yes it’s the print xh rbs. Very low back pressure, especially compared to my PoloK and my TurboK
No_Leg6630@reddit
$20 for shipping on a hand guard is a little drastic
wormraper@reddit
sadly they have flat rate shipping ony, so when buying one or two tiny things it kinda sucks.
JCChitty@reddit
My 14.8 is one of my favorite barrels ever
Im-a-magpie@reddit (OP)
2 of the 11.5 SD barrels remaining
