They were so hard and dry you could split someone's skull throwing them around.

Hardtack is meant to be hard... I'd rather that than these š
Responsible_Page1108@reddit
well...they at least succeeded in making decent chain sit-down restaurant rolls?
ShopwornShortcut@reddit
Q: How many steps in the recipe did you follow precisely?
A: Naan.

Uh oh, QANaan.

Well it's a bread from a different culture made differently to commercial bread.
redesckey@reddit
"Naan" means "bread".
TheGreatWheel@reddit
Just to clarify a bit, naan includes the word bread rather than being a direct translation.
We also have roti, parantha, and puri (not an exhaustive list) which are types of breads that would also be redundant by suffixing ābreadā to it.

Try a pizza dough recipe and just add some Plain yogurt and butter.
And cook it on an iron stove top pan.

Free-Huckleberry3590@reddit
Eh. At least it still looks edible
Fluffy_Ad_6581@reddit
Are you sure? Maybe he was trying to make rolls
IrisSmartAss@reddit
Looks like he put yeast in bread that shouldn't have it. Maybe he needs a tortilla press.
FPGA_engineer@reddit
Naan is supposed to be leavened: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naan
He made some mistake(s), but not that.
IrisSmartAss@reddit
You can test easy that I'm not making any.
Gryndyl@reddit
naan is made with yeast
IrisSmartAss@reddit
Maybe I'm mixing it up with chapati. Anyway, I know that those are too fluffy.

More like nah bread š j/k they look like Portuguese rolls, keep at it I've screwed up lots of bakes.
withbellson@reddit
Oh good god.
Now, I've made naan a few times, and it's pretty good, but I don't have the equipment to do it really well, and making it after spending all day also making complex Indian recipes is not my favorite. Trader Joe's frozen naan is perfectly good, and I also keep Deep brand frozen naan from the local Indian markets. Toast them on a rack in the toaster oven for 2-3 minutes.
polychromatte@reddit
Putting the ānahā in naan bread
ABEGIOSTZ@reddit
Congratulations, you made hardtack
Acinixys@reddit
It looks like he baked it in the oven like a bread?
You have to make Naan in a pan if you want it to stay flat.
rotinom@reddit
Put it on a grill thatās screaming hot. Preferably charcoal. Maybe a minute per side
Professional-Way7350@reddit
i use a super hot cast iron and it turns out delicious

Gryndyl@reddit
The key is to not watch the videos. Just click the recipe link and take it from there.
GobiPLX@reddit
At this stage I guess use any recipe at all
asyork@reddit
Yes, it is better to start with a recipe rather than a vague idea.
Lord_Phoenix95@reddit
For an unleavened bread they look pretty leavened.
FPGA_engineer@reddit
Naan is supposed to be leavened: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naan
If you forget the yeast and yogurt and you will get a tortilla. Now excuse me while I hide from all of Central and South America that I just enraged.
jabracadaniel@reddit
naan is like the one flatbread thats hard to make at home, since its not baked in an oven or on a skillet (at least traditionally). should probably try a different recipe
FPGA_engineer@reddit
I don't think so. I had no problem making it my first try using a carbon steel pan to cook them. Any pan but non-stick should work fine, you just want to get it very hot.

A naan and a half each. Try the lamb pasanda, it's incredibly rich and creamy.

Kinda looks like you somehow made pupusas instead. Naan is good but stuffed Salvadoran bread is also quite tasty.

Roll the dough thin in an oblong shape. Use a bit of water to stick the naan to your sheet. Donāt worry if it sticks. You can scrape it off and the crust gives flavor. Use the highest heat setting on your oven and cook them one at a time.
keith2600@reddit
Sounds like non-bread. How am I the first with that one

This could have been used in the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict. Your partner just made a weapon both countries would love to use to break skulls. As an Indian, I approve.
