So I've been wanting to go to a range here in washington, but they don't allow solo shooters without guns.
I'd bring a friend but I just moved up here and the seattle freeze is a real thing.
Would it be worth it to get this gun then take it to the range to try out some of the other guns I wanted to get?
My other option is $150 for Private Training where I get to try out the guns with a private trainer. But this is like $50 less than THAT.
MiguelLancaster@reddit
tack on another $50-70 to the price for the FFL transfer fee and it's not the savings you think
but you do get a 'free' gun if you got that route
MiseryIndexer@reddit
Yeah, totally. Even if you don't end up liking the hi point it gets you in the door so you can rent other guns you might like.
ligmagottem6969@reddit
Holy shit that store is 2 hours away
DerthOFdata@reddit (OP)
I'm pretty sure it selects your local store but I believe they ship for free between any of their locations.
ligmagottem6969@reddit
Don’t believe I have one in Minot. That’s ok
DerthOFdata@reddit (OP)
Maybe I should have said the nearest location rather than "local."
ligmagottem6969@reddit
Yeah the nearest is Williston. Surprising because there isn’t much there
Superflyjimi@reddit
It's right behind Menards.
ligmagottem6969@reddit
Buddy I’m not driving to Williston to buy a hi point
Superflyjimi@reddit
I'm not either friend
LavenderPants86@reddit
Wow that's a hell of a sales pitch. Not gonna lie, im actually excited to see what their new AR-15 will be like lol. I'm from Ohio so I like to root for them to succeed, even though....yeah...they are Hi Point.
bigfatround0@reddit
they're making an ar? lol
BluDvls21@reddit
https://www.shootingnewsweekly.com/gun-news/seen-at-nraam-the-new-hi-point-yes-hi-point-hp-15-ar-rifle-and-pistol/
bigfatround0@reddit
Huh. Looks like your run of the mill AR.
BluDvls21@reddit
Fine with me. I wouldn't get one. You can get a cheap ar for $400. Even if the hp15 matched that, idk if it offers anything of substance to sway me away from an Anderson or psa, if I was looking for a budget rifle.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
HiAR-15 lol
bigfatround0@reddit
Lol
in2optix@reddit
I'm rooting for them to make it California compliant 😫 because I would absolutely rock one. I'm loving my 995ts
fluxdeity@reddit
Obligatory move out of that shit-hole state comment. You'd actually save money because the COL is ridiculous. Not to mention the general anti-2A attitude of California.
Rebelgecko@reddit
The only state that my job would let me transfer to without a paycut is.... New York
GooseMcGooseFace@reddit
Transfer to Texas or Florida. Even with the pay cut, there’s no state income taxes. You’ll probably end up with more money.
bigfatround0@reddit
It's easier said than done. Not everyone wants to uproot their life for what basically amounts to a hobby for most of us.
fluxdeity@reddit
The amount of money saved not living in California would pay for itself. You could move your entire family out of that shit hole. Earthquakes, smog, excessive homeless, high crime, no thanks.
ColdTheory@reddit
You have no idea how large the state is if you think everyone is equally affected by the things you mentioned.
justamiqote@reddit
If only I had the privilege to make my entire life's decisions based on my guns
Mahlegos@reddit
If it’s on par quality wise with Anderson and still has their lifetime warranty it’s going to be the best entry level AR on the market I think.
bubbathedesigner@reddit
It will be a game changer
alltheblues@reddit
Need to be better tbh, Anderson bolts seem to break at a relatively high rate.
However I will absolutely be buying some Hi Point lowers if they sell them
eaamade@reddit
Serious question. It's this a good deal? Seems like a lot of people are making fun of this gun. Why?
TubeSockLover87@reddit
It's a past-time.
Stuck up people will turn their nose up but fuk em.
It's a great deal if you have a store near you.
They charge very little for the transfer.
If you have to ship to an actual FFL, id pass.
Temporary_Traffic622@reddit
Seems like they won’t ship to a nearby swh? Either anybody try calling in or something. It seems I can pick up in neighboring state or ffl but I have a sportsman’s a few miles away :(
DerthOFdata@reddit (OP)
It's a bit of a meme gun in the shooting world. However Hi-Point's mission statement is that everyone deserves to be able to defend themselves no matter their economic status. You are getting what you pay for. It's ugly and clunky but it will get the job done.
Quenz@reddit
Even better than their black Friday deal. And actually a blast to use. Still zero issues with mine, no cleaning or oiling.
skink35620@reddit
Mine still works fine after being thrown through several walls, no oil or anything
Sea_Rooster_9402@reddit
I have a decade old c9 that's never been cleaned or even taken apart. Still pretty reliable except it doesn't always want to enter battery with a full mag.
omahusker@reddit
Should I do it just to say I have a meme gun plus it’s 1 more gun and I’ve spent $100 on a lot worse in my life?
Electronic-Tea-3912@reddit
If you buy 10 even if they jam after 1 round each you can shoot a full mag!
TresCeroOdio@reddit
Hipoints don’t jam nearly as much a people claim. They’re just made of pot metal.
bolivar-shagnasty@reddit
HiPoint only melts down the finest rebar scraps, Mitsubishi Galant trunk latches, and AAA Zamak for their firearms.
Fragrant_Scene_42@reddit
Mitsubishi Galant catching strays 🤣
I used to work on those, so +1 for the random reference
Vic_Sinclair@reddit
I loved my Mitsubishi Galant. Too bad my brother-in-law wrecked it while I was deployed.
Fragrant_Scene_42@reddit
;(
MiniBanjo@reddit
Mine has never jammed. She ugly but she goes bang
Traditional-Hat-952@reddit
If you need disposable gun for crime then this is for you. /s... But kinda not
GamesGunsGreens@reddit
I told my dad, "You buy a HiPoint for $100, then rob the liquor store for $200, then throw away the HiPoint, and rinse and repeat."
sLUTYStark@reddit
“Well, I rolled into Atlanta, stolen tags and almost out of gas Yeah I had to get some money, lately I’d learned how to get it fast Those neon lights was calling me and somehow I just had to get downtown So I reached into the glove box, another liquor store went down”
brassnut1@reddit
Infinite money hack.
Full-Metal-Jack-off@reddit
Step 1: buy a hi point Step 2: rob a liquor store Step 3: ?????? Step 4: profit
Khunning_Linguist@reddit
I wish this came with more than one mag. I may still get it as a BU piece for the shed.
DebbsWasRight@reddit
Make sure you spend the $80 for the five year service plan. Could end up saving you $18 in the long run.
GuaranteeShallop@reddit
Years ago I bought a brand new in box Hi point to prove to my bro it was ass. After breaking it in and using premium ammo, jam every other round smh. It’s quite literally a brick
hitemlow@reddit
That's your problem right there. You got to use that cheap shit with the round nose and the brass case. It doesn't like fancy hollow points or flat nosed ammo.
If it won't run Blazer Aluminum or Brass, contact Hi-Point for the lifetime warranty. It could be something as dumb as a bad magazine.
GuaranteeShallop@reddit
Bro I bought it for $50. Not doing all that 😂 it was brand new too
MiniBanjo@reddit
It does not want your fancy shit. It’s a cheap gun meant to shoot the ammo you find in the gutter for free
The_Malhavoc@reddit
Buy 4 get 1 free.
hitemlow@reddit
For an additional $64, you can get one that has 2 additional rounds in the magazine, a threaded barrel, accessory rail, and can have a red dot mounted.
bububulo@reddit
For another $103 you can get the 10mm.
gilbert2gilbert@reddit
And for $20 more than that you can get another high point and have one for each hand
Superflyjimi@reddit
Hi-Points are back baby!
whyintheworldamihere@reddit
What's funny is the only guy in my circle to actually have to shoot someone outside of the military did so with one of these. All of us running around with $3k custom 1911s and this guy getting work done for $100.
MiniBanjo@reddit
Arguably this gun has shot a lot more people in non-military or LE roles than any other gun in America
blackjoker4077@reddit
No fucking lie, I love my C9. I feel it all my nose-dived CCW rounds that I've chambered too much. I model painted the sights, and added tape to the handle, just gave it the full abuse/barbie doll treatment. One time, I even removed the magazine lockout bar and it would randomly drop the mag during fire... great for training. Paints all chipped and the plastic has a few gashes... but...
Still shoots accurately.
I did have to replace the striker springs on it (it's an older model) and Hipoint's CS sent me some free. Good dudes. Also, the 8 round mags fucking suck, even though they fit flush to the frame.
MiniBanjo@reddit
It’s a machine that functions perfectly in its intended purpose
justamiqote@reddit
I would buy one, but then I have to look the guy in the eye while he runs my background check.
thelegendofcarrottop@reddit
I ordered the Yeet Cannon a while back and my FFL was so disappointed in me. “I know the nice guns you have. Why are you doing this?” “Because I must. I must.”
PilotKnob@reddit
As a joke I picked up a .40 because I have a ton of LE ammo sitting around doing nothing. The joke is that the POS won't feed hollow point reliably, even after sending it back to Hi-Point for an inspection. It feeds FMJ just fine. Can I pay Hi-Point $100 to take it back? /s
bubbathedesigner@reddit
Contact them. Their customer service is simply above every other manufacturer. Their warranty would covered dipping it in a volcano if you send them the resulting blob.
PilotKnob@reddit
I already sent it back once, and they sent it back still not working right. I'm kinda done with them.
bigfatround0@reddit
speaking of hipoint, what's the verdict on the yc9? I remember everyone was hyped for it when it was announced at shotshow 2020(?), then complete silence when it was actually released.
hitemlow@reddit
They're fun and mostly reliable as long as you stay away from steel case, frangible, or flat-nose ammo. The 10 round magazine kinda blows because I don't live in an authoritarian state and it's a full-size handgun that would easily be able to fit more, and it really harshest the viability in Carry Optics division.
Once ProMag finally makes a 50 round drum, it'll be less of a sore subject.
bubbathedesigner@reddit
Belt fed FTW
bigfatround0@reddit
Really? I saw an old vid on yt just now that had it jam a lot.
hitemlow@reddit
There's also plenty videos of people torture testing them and having few to no failures. They're about as simple of a handgun as you can legally make in this country and that makes them surprisingly reliable.
They can be quite picky on ammo because they are straight blowback and don't tilt the barrel when loading the next round. But as long as you aren't using the types of ammo it hates, they generally run fine.
bigfatround0@reddit
I see. Might pick one up then. I was one of those people following the release of it so I've actually wanted one for a while.
salem_lakes_armory@reddit
Im wondering how a hi point ar15 can cost 6 hi points and not have hydro dipped bens on it
bubbathedesigner@reddit
Important question being asked here
GloryholeKaleidscope@reddit
Nature IS healed. At least once.
drivesanm5@reddit
I am now one hi-point richer lol
Alternative-Cut5221@reddit
Hi points have really been a hi point in my gun collecting career
MASTODON_ROCKS@reddit
They're great problem solvers, I love the frying pan melt feature
Sesemebun@reddit
These deals are funny but then when I break it down it’s like $200 after fees
street_sweeper_757@reddit
Not if you have one local, showing free shipping to store and I assume they don’t charge for transfers on products bought from them.
dougieg987@reddit
They do not charge FFL fee, just bought something there last week
street_sweeper_757@reddit
Think I’m gonna grab one just because I have a store local and not having any fees sweetens the deal imo
Askren@reddit
My local-local store has like, a $75 transfer fee and anything else around here is a pawn shop or kitchen table. So the idea of just not paying a transfer and walking out with a HiPoint is funny and might just be stupid enough to be worth it for the memes.
gilbert2gilbert@reddit
My store charges $10 for the background check but that's cheaper than everywhere else
street_sweeper_757@reddit
Well if they charge me for a transfer I’ll return it lol, literally 10%+ of the purchase price in your case
Sesemebun@reddit
Oh wait this is sportsman’s warehouse? lol Nevermind, no deal could ever get me to deal with their shit again
b4dkarm4@reddit
Isn't buying this like dividing by zero?
possibly_lost45@reddit
Did you see their new ar15 coming out?
AdhesivenessInner165@reddit
Might cop a couple of these so I can sell them to felons and chiraq teenagers. Price too good to turn down‼️
Itchy_Present_8159@reddit
I wonder what the sentence is if you have a justified self defense shooting then lie and say this is the weapon that was used so your ccw doesn’t get locked up
yamaha450guy@reddit
I’ve had $100 worth of fun with mine that I got for Black Friday.
MiniBanjo@reddit
That’s wild. Didn’t expect to see that again
issazane216@reddit
Damn need this bad but spent all my money on yeet cannon
