i can't remember if it was him but I thought I remembered something from around this period, tell me if I'm crazy- I don't think it was elliot roger or maybe it was, my memory is so hazy.

there was a kid who went on a spree like this and, in the aftermath, there was an existing narrative of essentially, "oh he's just singularly delusional and egomaniacal, filling his head with (proto-incel) ideology, there's nothing to blame here but himself and toxic masculinity. We must ban guns and be suspicious of boys and bla bla bla." However as part of the media circuit then they went to asking his schoolmates what they knew/thought about him before it happened and they more or less revealed they just bullied him, severely muddling the existing narrative.

Then just like the 'stop asian hate' campaign quietly subsided once the source of most of the hate became evident so too did the media try to get off this topic amidst the distortion of the desired narrative. Killing is unquestionably wrong of course but the notion that the tragedy could be, at least in part, attributable to the misdemeanor of others and the larger system that engendered bullying was a far cry from the black and white good v evil story at play.

anyways I will never stop being amused at the cognitive dissonance of needing to force kids into rigid educational environments that create extremely competitive and cliquey power groups that predictably and unavoidably create swathes of rejects via systemic humiliation while also feigning surprise when those same rejects lash out. Ya tinder hasn't helped things with giving high impulsivity females more sexual access than they can properly handle but I promise it's school and its untouchability as an institution that is much more arterial to the disfunction between young men and women today.
