I am Indian, and yes back in the 2010s, India's best President, Mr. Abdul Kalam (who himself was a scientist), had a vision for India to become a superpower by 2020.
After that, your average politicians took over and now they've downgraded India by 50 years literally.
I hate the fact that our current politicians simply chose to overlook a scientist's scientific approach and went over with religious propaganda that has killed close to a million in about 50 years.
With the idiocy of the US we might not see another outright super power for a long time.
Or they might recover somehow and maintain their position.
But if there is one, it's going to be Chin - although far more likely it's going to be a multi-polar world with a NE America in decay, the EU, China, India, maybe Brazil in SA exerting significant regional economic and cultural dominance but quite frankly the USA has a military that you cannot reasonably expect to defeat only defend against and even then that's only for a few select entities. Nukes tho.
Decay means to decompose or break down, and that is generally a good term to represent the United States so far this year. Quality of life, among other metrics, have gone down considerably compared to earlier years.
That aside though, plenty of things cannot be measured by the S&P500. An increase in their value does not necessarily mean the overall picture is better.
I genuinely don't know if I'm lucky or not tbh. I'm 29, and I live in Canada, and the first 20 years of my life were good, as far as I can tell. The last 9 have been pretty shit, and while I know being in Canada is better than being in somewhere like Iraq, I don't know if it's better than being in any of the western European countries. Sounds pretty nice to be in places like Germany or Spain.
Sounds pretty nice in Spain? The absolute EPITOME of precisely what I was hinting at, sorry if I'm offending you. Unemployment is SO BAD and salaries are SO LOW in Spain that the average age at which people get their own first apartment is over 30 years old. And we're talking shitty 12 sq m apartments.
About Germany, its economy is about the same as Canada. Slightly higher avg salaries in Germany but it's more equally distributed in Canada (median is higher in Canada). So I guess it'd be about the same.
So again: you don't realize how rich your countries are. What you've experienced for the past 9 years is called adult life.
I'm currently 30, living with my mom, unemployed, struggling to find work. So yeah, Spain doesn't sound any worse. Except the weather is way nicer. And you can travel to other countries far easier.
Do you understand that in Canada you're the exception while in Spain you'd be the average? Oh and the minimum salary in Spain is about 13 canadian $ (below 9€) and the unemployment is half what you have. Nice for vacation, shitty to work. Why would your life be any better there? Except for the weather yeah, if you enjoy having your shoe soles melt in the summer (no that's not a joke).
That being said I'm sorry for you and I hope you find happiness in life.
Oh yeah no argument there. But shits still more fucked then it has been before and a lot of that wealth was derived from the American judiciary being independent and having minimal barriers to trade. That and the pax Americana for shipping and preventing conflicts from spiralling out of control (more often than not).
That's why I said a multipolar world is possible if the system actually breaks down enough. It's exciting to see!
So is the president ignoring orders from the Supreme Court, using emergency powers to install tarries that should be powers of the congress not failure of separation of powers?
Is the president saying he will run for a third term, not answering whether the president should abide by the constitution, and discrediting elections results not threatening democracy?
Genuine question, what exactly would qualify as threatening democracy and failure of separation of powers by your definition, im actually curious.
any “layman” American who buys things or cares about the job market can easily notice the immediate effects of these policies.
Even people working in the manufacturing sectors he supposedly wants to revive seem to not like his policies as they need foreign parts. It’s just people who buy into the post war consensus nostalgia that want these policies ig.
Though if it all facilitates a decline of American soft power and an abandonment of past security and trade guarantees it’ll be felt much worse by us American laymen.
There is no argument that US Navy and US airforce is the strongest in the world, my point is the decay of US Navy and the pretty much the free fall of US shipbuilding capability
The only ships we care about are carriers and their support ships- and theres always two carriers in the pipeline. Remains to be seen whether or not a carrier would be viable versus a capable enemy, but they're really good at force projection.
But saar, the pride of my ancestors guzzling horse cum and cutting off breasts of women who look at us the wrong way. Please saar you need to understand the high it gives us saar, we are pure Aryans like you too saar
I guess it depends wheter the terrorist who did that first atack where or not supported by Pakistan. India atacked Pakistan first with the operation Sindar, then they attacked back and at the end they did a ceasefire bcs no one wanted a war, but all relationships are broken
Yeah and that too in retaliation to 27 tourists killed in India on religion basis. They also showed proof of all the attacks. There are photos of even high profile army officials of Pakistan attending the funeral of said terrorist.
And somehow all of this is denied by Pakistan. Same way they did for 9/11, 26/11 in mumbai, hiding bin laden and what the fuck not. Guess it will also be pain in the ass for west if India comes out to be independent enough based on Russian and French arms.
Envying you so hard. Im from russia and growing up they always where in all cities we visited. Later on my parent immigrated to germany because my fathers family has german blood, and it felt like the Gypsies followed us all the way here lol
I gotta admit, here they are very lowkey and humble. But in Russia you where constantly harassed on them on the street, begging until you gave them what they wanted
Any fellow hawks want to see these jets used in a proper manner to see their performance against near peer jets (Chinese j-10)? Not fly your expensive rafale straight into enemy AA with zero sead or awacs and be surprised pikachu face when you lose one?
That doesn’t mean that underinvestment in enablers is a good idea. The Indians also skipped out on modern missiles like the meteor. (Wikipedia says they have them. But they don’t.) The Pakistanis were prepared for a fight with the indians, and they had missiles with superior range. And now India just attacked 10 pakistani airbases showing that they are actually not incompetent.
I'm not questioning the competence of either side, bruh. Both sides attacked each other's military installations and airbases with missiles, overwhelming their defenses. There are military casualties on both sides
"Some US officials say, Some French officials say" yeah right. Pakistani locals were going ape shit crazy over a fallen Indian drone, if they had actually taken down a rafale (which isn't a small plane by any means) they would have paraded its every spare parts, posted them online and their military would flaunt them at every briefing.
You can only find poorly edited images or pics taken from older articles about entirely different jets. I genuinely didn't find any believable source of this.
Most of these things also imply to pakistan and yet you don't see pakistan getting a lot of hate online it's kinda obvious a lot of Pakis including the diaspora in western countries is working overtime to spread propoganda since the terrorist attack that lead to to more tensions and later a ceasefire and violation of the same ceasefire by pakistan. The funny thing is they originally claimed to be able to become a superpower by 2020. Crazy what dumb nationalism makes you think huh.
DenseMahatma@reddit
Idiots who never understood that statement make it sound like that.
A former presidents book attempted to outline a path to make it a superpower by 2020.
It meant as a motivator and to say it is capable to do so under the right conditions.
It never said it is definitely going to happen
beansahol@reddit
They are a superpower. If being super refers to the most poo in the streets.
DenseMahatma@reddit
Hahaha
moverwhomovesthings@reddit
So this guy gave india a plan on how to become a super power and india was like "not on my watch" and cancelled the plan. Got it
DenseMahatma@reddit

india cope?
DenseMahatma@reddit
not really
Im bashing the indians who took it out of context as a promise and never actually followed the plan through

Impressive_Ant405@reddit
Things can be shittier around the world and he can still want things to be better in the US no?
Maurice148@reddit
He can and in my views he must. But that's not what "decay" means.
Mister_Taco_Oz@reddit
.......yes it is?
Ditnoka@reddit
Decay means 100% increase in the S&P500 over 5 years?

Decay means to decompose or break down, and that is generally a good term to represent the United States so far this year. Quality of life, among other metrics, have gone down considerably compared to earlier years.
That aside though, plenty of things cannot be measured by the S&P500. An increase in their value does not necessarily mean the overall picture is better.
DarkSkyKnight@reddit
Decay literally means a downward trend. Not that it is worse than others. Maybe you should go back to kindergarten.
Maurice148@reddit
English is not my first language. It's my third actually. So apologies for confusing words. But I felt that "decay" was rather a heavy statement.

stillmahboi@reddit
I think failure of separation of powers and being on the edge of stagnation qualifies as decaying.
An outright objection to democracy by the country's own leaders and a clear oligarchy is what I'd call 'decaying'
Maurice148@reddit
Yes but that's not what's happening right now. Get off the internet.
stillmahboi@reddit
